Mass Effect 2 coming to PS3 January 2011
How? The save file is anti-copying. Only the Shepard profile is able to be copied for me.
there are two files, the one that's unprotected has the saves. Notice it's a larger file and has the last save location in its description.

Wow, these posts are pretty scary to read but I'm close to 20 hours in and have played the shadow broker missions without any problems at all; I should probably back up my saves just to be safe though.

Just finished the game with no "save" problems.

There is one thing that this game does well at, getting you hyped for ME3.

Here it hopping for a robust RPG element to ME3, armor limitations based on class and a better use of Paragon/Renegade system. Did anyone get to level 30 on a single play through? I did ever side mission and I'm like 300 XP from getting to level 30.

How many hours did it take you to get to that point? I'm about 27+ hours and only a level 19.

I've been taking my sweet time to explore just about everything.

Anyone know if the alternative costume pack is free or paid DLC? Apparently it hit the PSN store today and I was just curious. I am not paying for it but if it was free, why not.

I put in about 40+ hours into the game. I did every single side mission, loyalty mission, distress mission and main mission.

I made sure that I did all of the missions besides the reaper IFF before I did the Shadow Broker Mission. Also I made sure I turned off the system before I went ahead with the Shadow Broker. Bioware has stated that one of the reasons the file save becomes corrupt is from having going through a bunch of loading screens. So when you start the broker mission, make sure you restart the system before you start it.

Minor concern is that when start the game with your character again you do not get the chance to change your character class. First play through was the Infiltrator class, would like to try a full on biotics class.

Most likely the alternate costume pack is going to be paid for DLC. EA knows how to milk their franchises now.

which is unfortunate, but in some weird way we'd be glad ea took in bioware or else we'd never have mass effect on ps3

hey have you guys gone to the local cluster (our solar system) and launched probes at uranus? nice lil easter egg

I did the same thing I did all the missions and was getting around 10 pm so I just turned it off and waited until the next day to start that mission and it was a laggy for a sec once I got a little into the mission but after that I was fine and I completed the rest of the game the next day.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get more Paragon points?

I'm near the endgame,
I only have Legion's loyalty mission left to go. BUT, when I finished Jack's, she got into a fight w/ Miranda immediately and I couldn't diffuse it, I had to pick a side (Miranda). I know the same will happen with Tali and Legion once I finish Legion's Mission, so I'm trying to figure out how to get more Paragon pts. so I can diffuse it immediately and hopefully get Jack back. When I go and talk to Jack on the ship, there's a Paragon and Renegade option, but it's just not highlighted/selectable. If I get enough Paragon points, I'll be able to get her back, I assume. Is this correct?

Any ideas?

talk to every other squad member and always choose the upper left (or right) option, you can rack up 4+ paragon points, you get about 4 unique conversation moments with each member. then, go to every shop you can find in the galaxy and do the same, not only do you get paragon, but you get discounts on purhases. there are also some mini quests on omega and illium that you can earn paragon points. last but not least, go to the technology pc in mordin's lab and retrain your powers so you can mas out whatever class gives you 100% paragon/renegade points.

the good news is you dont need that high of renegade or paragon to get a good outcome to the tali and legion argument.

i found this, pretty funny:

As I suspected, the top two options are good, the middle neutral, and the bottom bad. I've clicked many bottom ones just to find out more info, so doing those is it still bad? Cause I don't notice anything bad about the dialogue. Or does this rule not apply to general "tell me more" conversations?

Try not to worry about being "good" or "bad", most conversations in which you can press for more information have cycles in them so if you accidentally miss something, you can usually cycle back to the choices that lets you get more information. I recommend just playing and enjoying yourself.

Crisis averted! Got lotsa Paragon from Legion's loyalty mission, retrained my powers, got max Paragon. Now everyone is loyal.

Through the Omega 4 relay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Retraining your powers to max out on the Paragon/Renegade bonus is a good way to fill up one of the meters near the end of the game.

There's some really complex game design involved as you can't actually have 100% either way even though the meter shows full. If you want the details, go through some of the last pages of the 360 thread as I and someone else had it out because I don't read the Bioware forums and one of the devs sort of described how it works.

Can someone explain the process of retraining powers? How do you know which powers give bonuses to Paragon and Renegade?

I'm getting ready to do the IFF Reaper mission but, among other things, I lost loyalty with Miranda during the argument she was having with Jack. I've been trying to increase my Paragon but I've only got a bar and a half so far...there are a lot of Renegade points I got early in the game that I didn't realize would cut off my Paragon options later in the game.
Can someone explain the process of retraining powers? How do you know which powers give bonuses to Paragon and Renegade?
If you select "retrain powers" you'll then re-allocate all of the upgrades you've done, when you get to the 4th (4 point) option of Sheperd's "base" class, i.e. the non-ammo, non-power choice, and you upgrade it, one option will be +70% paragon/renegade, the other will say +100% paragon/renegade. You can see the difference right on the screen, you'll see the bar bounce, and you can always change it as much as you want before you exit that screen.

The patch has been submitted to Sony so now we just wait on their busted certification process.

I don't know how you male Shep players do it: I decided to give male Shep another shot since I hadn't really given the guy one since 1 and holy hell is that some poorly delivered and wooden voice acting. His range involves being in a soundbooth bored and being in a soundbooth bored and in a rush to read his lines and be somewhere else. (Micro Machines guy syndrome all-over the place)

I thought that I, in my cross-gaming ways, had just come to love tight-ass spacesuits on lady Shep as I was playing intergalactic dress-up while Jennifer Hale did a wonderful job but nope...after trying again for a few hours last night = I still kinda hate Mark Meer's portrayal.

I found the male shep's voice acting especially horrendous as i tried to seduce Miranda...("ooh, Sheperd, maybe later." "DAAA, OKAY!")

That begs the question: Now that I've got a nice clean perfect finished game save, can I take that character and have a play thru as a Renegade? Can I change his class? Can I make him a female? Or will any of that "ruin" my good save for ME3 import?

for some reason playing mass effect 2 my eyes always feel strained much more than other games. anyone else having this problem?

Got this release-week and finally started it yesterday (Dead Space 2 took priority). I didn't know what to expect, and before I knew it was 2 am and I had been playing for hours. This game is dangerously enjoyable.

Well there's tiny text, film grain turned on by default, and framerate issues so pick your poison. (I always turn off film grain and excessive post-processing in any game that lets me cause yay framerate increase and boo Vaseline mode:bomb:)

Friggin Two Worlds II is such an eyestrain offender that I go in at every boot and console command that shit into the nether realm.

LOL

I have the Downloaded version and just a little over 60 hours played.

No problems.

Are you staying off the game entirely?

@Brainberry (and everyone)

Question for you: I still need the Warp/Incinerate/Disrupt (whatever) trophies. Should I do a quick run on easy to get these, or do you think I can get them in the run of play on Insanity? I think I'm going to just plough through Insanity as fast as I can, doing the bare minimum number of recruitments etc., just to keep the plot moving.

I'm about 30 hours into my first playthrough, just finished the Reaper IFF mission.

I'm debating what to do though. I know I want to play through the game again and make some different choices, but I don't know if I want to play as a soldier again so I might have to make a whole other character. Of course, if I do this then I would then have to play through the game twice with that new character so that he'd be completely leveled up for the third game...

Either way, ME2 has been awesome. I never got to play them before now because I don't have a 360. A couple of things are lost on me since I didn't play the first game but overall it's been great.

I actually got the warp trophy on my second(insanity)play through.

I suggest you take care of everything on your first or on a easier playthrough though.

Having everything done before you start ur insanity will make things much easier.

I am the same way. I stopped playing this game until the patch is live so I don't have to deal with the whole backing up and hoping it works. I really want to finish it soon.

They're honestly probably easier on higher difficulties since everything will have some sort of protection for you to burn through. As long as you make a conscious effort to get them I doubt you'll have any trouble even if you're running straight for the ending. FWIW, I had all three of them done before the end of
Horizon
in my present Insanity Adept playthrough, and I'd have been done sooner had there been enough barriers prior to that mission.

It'd be nice to see, but hopefully that isn't stopping you from playing this game.

I was definitely worried I would lose my save game. I had it crash on me a few times but that was after 2 hours of playing and traveling and landing on like 50 different planets. If you load up a bunch of levels in one play session that's what causes the crash. Should note I have a 80GB BC console, not sure if that's relevant to the freezing issue.

Yeah I all I have left is the Incinerate Armorx25 trophy and the Insanity trophy. Awesome game.

It's best to find a location that you can pick up some of the trophy, go back, reload the save right before it, rinse, repeat.

The counters are cumulative within the game, so it doesn't matter if you go back over and over again with a repeated reloading of a save to grind to get the trophy.
platinum was too easy for this game i think.
It is. Just got mine at 40 hours on 1 playthrough.

I used the ME2 Morality convo list from the Wikia to make sure I didnt miss out on any para/ren points and to compare/contrast level 4 powers. Trophy guide though, I didn't use. I saw no point because all the trophies are self-explanatory and the game mechanics are simple to follow.
