Media Play's Closing: 70-80% off LAST FEW DAYS

To anyone with a Media Play in SE Michigan nearby. Have you seen the replica light sabers that are normally 100 at your Media Play. They had some at the Ann Arbor one, but now they are all sold out. Thanks in advance!

It's possible. I wouldn't doubt another drop soon, as I had heard that January 11th would be the last day Media Play stores would be open. Maybe someone out there can confirm that.

My store has 20% all games (Utica Michigan) The crowds lately kept me away.

BTW

The Zelda Guides are worth something? I dont use mine and I have them for both n64 games. :oldman:
So... is this gonna be a weekly thing? Meaning we may expect another price drop tomorrow?
That would be nice... as neat as Trapt looks, I really can't see buying it for $40.
$35 would be far more palatable.

Most things were 30% off yesterday, the big exceptions being Books (20%) and as mentioned console games (also 20%). Crowds were insane. One guy was near violence about the return policy. He was finally escorted from the store.

There was still quite a bit of decent stuff left, especially DVDs, books, strategy guides and music. Newer games are largely gone, but they did have quite a few of the F.E.A.R. DVD version for around $35. It also looked like they had received more RPG books and graphic novels from their warehouse. 20% off isn't good enough for me, but I'm hoping there will be a couple of things left when it hits the 40-60% range. If you're like me and there's some older stuff you might like to pick up, methinks you'll score at least a few deals as this progresses.

Do you understand liquidation?

Basically it will be 20=30% for about 2 months without re-stock then it will go to 40%-50% and by then there will be little if anything left. Liquidation is done by a private subcontractor.

All stores are closing by the last day of January.

Games were marked down to 40% off today...
I ended up getting Shin Megami Tensei: DDS 2, Wild Arms Alter Code F, Trapt, and Romancing Saga all for just over a hundred.

Where I am, games are still at 20%, and most of the good stuff is gone (I was looking for Fire Emblem specifically).
If games are now 40% off, are dvds 50% off?
Nope... DVDs are 40% off as well.
Oddly, books are still just 20% off. Media Play's Liquidator must have a hell of a buyback deal going with publishers if they're not slashing those prices as well.
I've never been to this store, but I searched and there's one 40 miles away in Poughkeepsie. Would it be worth the drive?
It depends... everything is really picked over, and unless you manage to stumble into a couple of new games, or games that don't really see much in the way of sales or price drops, it's really not worth the hassle.

Only newer games are even worth looking at... older games, even at 40% off are still more expensive than many of the other deals that have been seen.
Whoa...40% off games? Are 360 games included? That would be GREAT!
If you can find a 360 game, yes, they are.
Of course, pickings are getting sparce... and there never was much in the way of 360 stuff.

Good lord, man. That's insane.

Didn't see much in the way of interesting games at the Media Play on Gratiot in...Clinton Township, I think?

The music and movies are still in decent shape, though. I found a few CDs I'd been looking for, but I had better luck down the road with the TRU sale than I did at the Media Play.

I just went to a mp near me. 40% toys, storage, dvd, and games. I'm still waiting. When they get to 50% off I spend some money.

40% off there for me today.
Picked up:
Lost in Blue $17.99
Pac Man World 3 (Xbox) for $17.99
Taito Legends $11.99
Taking Back Sunday - Where you want to be $8.39
Early November - The Room's Too Cold $8.39
LostProphets - The Fake Sound of Progress $7.19
Warped Tour 2003 - $4.19
Warped Tour 2005 - $4.79
I've never been to this store, but I searched and there's one 40 miles away in Poughkeepsie. Would it be worth the drive?
No. For the most part they're picked pretty clean, and forty miles is too long a drive to drive back empty-handed.

I was at 2 stores today, one was picked clean and the other still had a few decent games left, but I only ended up getting Wario Ware Twisted as far as games go.

They had 2 Steel Battalions left at the one on Walden Ave down to $120 if anyone in my area cares, and copies of the new Prince of Persia for all the systems.
If you can find a 360 game, yes, they are.

I got lucky, they had 2 copies of THAW and a few of Fifa. With the 40% off I ended up paying $36. Not too bad for a 360 game.

BTW thanks for the heads up about this Sweeney, I would have waited another week or more to head back there cause I figured the drop on games wouldn't be so sudden.

Now if they would just go higher than 20% off books I'd be able to get a couple books I've been eyeing.

Finally went in today and looked around. Picked up Metroid Pinball DS and Superman Animated Volume 2. Its funny seeing people buying stacks of items, which are still cheaper online. Don't get me wrong if you are willing to dig a bit there are finally some good deals at 40%.

Poor sucker in front of me must have thought buying four brothers at 29.99 40% off was a great deal.

BTW... Spoke with a manager while I was in there. Asked him what was up with the books. He said the books are actually managed (owned) through a third party and they are not going to drop below 20% off.

They still had two at the Transit Road location as well.

Ok, updated, i will be stopping by today so i will get more prices, also added note about books not going below 20% off.

Somehow i think there will still be a few decent pickings left at our media play since no one in the falls seems to clean things out, our TRU still had a decent selection of 9.99 games the day after christmas (much better deal than what media play is offering imo).

Thanks for telling us that because my girlfriend was going today thinking she would be able to score some cheap manga but doesn't look like it will happen.

I just called the Utica Michigan store and she told me They still accept the Customer Bucks coupons! So, 40% games with a 15 dollar coupon is pretty good. She said they were picked clean. Im sure she meant movies and Cd's. :bouncy:

^^I'll be checking that one myself after work in a couple hours. Hopefully "picked clean" just means they are out of POPULAR things like...oh...I dunno. Ashlee Simpson CDs and Simpsons DVDs or something.
Were there any 360 games left at the Gratiot one?
They had 3 copies of Madden and two of FIFA left. I passed on them. I almost picked them up to trade or use my receipt for my old Madden to return, but that would be dishonest, so I left them there. FIFA was HORRIBLE, so I left it there.

They seemed pretty picked over there though. No accessories really. A few PSP games and some XBOX games. They had some decent DVD's left, but ALL are overpriced...40% off makes it tolerable I guess. Nothing I wanted though. I didn't look long though, I had to take a shit, so my mind was on getting home at that point.

darn it... I went in today expecting to score a bunch of 360 games and the one in cheektowaga,NY only had Need For Speed Most Wanted, and FIFA 06(Which I already have)...

Ok i updated everything

BTW does anyone know what they did with their HUGE stock of PS1 games, i went there today and i didnt see ANY PS1 games, there were tons and tons before, there is no way the customers bought up all those ridiculously overpriced games so my thoughts is they sent them to another store.

Oh yes, what i bought:

An Initial D anime calender - $5.19

GBA/DS Action Replay Max - 20.99

Mr Driller 2 advance - 11.99

Well, now I'm kicking myself for not getting the 360 games....they would make nice trade bait. If anyone has any interest in Madden or FIFA I might pick them up tomorrow if they are still there.

I would have interest in the FIFA for 360. :)
Is the 40% sale happening at the Media Play in Southgate, Michigan on Eureka road, near the Circuit City?
Yes, it is.

I haven't been there yet (I went to the Livonia one), but my niece's friend told me about that one. I just haven't been in the area yet.

I went by Media Play this evening.
Unfortunately there were no 360 games left (not that I was expecting to find any). I picked up a copy of Meteos for the DS for about $20, it was the only good DS game left.

This was the Macon, Georgia location.

I got back from the local Media Play in Milpitas (Great Mall) a few hours ago. Most of this is just confirmation of what's been posted already:

Video games - 40% off (the selection is decent but I found nothing worth buying because they have nearly every game priced at $49.99... even the ones that have gone through confirmed price drops - this means that I'm getting games for the same price as any other store after the 40% off - no 360 games left)

DVDs - 40% off (not a good selection left, but people are still buying stuff like Batman Forever for $17 after discount...)

Music CDs - 40% off (decent selection left)

Books - 40-60% off (decent selection, but Sci-Fi/Fantasy is starting to run thin)

Music Sheets - 60% off

Music Instruments - 40% off (I saw a fair amount of guitars still there)

Action Figures - 40-60% off (not much left)

Yes, FIFA is absolute crap. But they were out of it at my local MP (SLC). Only one NBA Live and three copies (one of them not cleverly hidden in the PS2 section) of NFS:MW. I dug everywhere in case someone stashed Fire Emblem, but no luck.

i picked up the UK version of The Office (season 1 &2 +the special) for like 34$ after tax and everything today. Good deal since i've been looking for this cheap for a while.

also, i noticed that they had marked down the GBA micros by 40% as well... $59.99! If I hadn't just capitalized on the Costco price error, I would have been all over that. The micros are pretty well concealed and i assume that's why they have a few left.

Not very much music or movies left at my store, but the games were still fairly decent. Picked up Viewtiful Joe: DT & Metroid Prime Pinball for DS, and Virtua Tennis for PSP for $60. Pretty good selection of DS games left at the time. Tiger Woods 2005, Pac Pix, Prince of Persia(6 copies), Dig Dug, Whac-a-Mole, Scooby-Doo, Tak 3, Ultimate Spider-Man, Lunar ...hmmm, might have to head back out there tomorrow for a few others.

I went to the MP in Fargo, ND and there wasn't really any games that I wanted. Well, nothing that I wanted at the current price. There wasn't much DS or GC games left. I might go back when % increases again and get either DoR 2, Metroid Pinball, or the PS2 Network Adapter. I really doubt they'll still be there though. I did score a really cool Predator bobble head for a little over seven dollars. Also, they had table of notebook tablets that were $0.39 each.

I remember when the Southfiled michigan store closed. Kind of. That store was massive. It was two stories and gave NO mention whatsoever of it closing. I went every week. One week its there, The next, Its stripped clean with whited out windows..No banners no nothin' :bomb:

And I just found another 5 dollar coupon too. I just dont know what to get. I bet they'll have hundreds of Bulletproof copies.
