Well it seems it was a false alarm. premature journalism strikes again, as did i...

It's in my post holder. Yeah, I check all of the games 2x to 3x each before posting. It's also part of the posting rules.

Many great SEGA fan made games get bad press like this. Usually, I think it's because they are so good they put SEGA to shame and they leak a false story like this prior to taking it down like SOR5.
Just a head's up about the Sonic 2 HD alpha . Apparently, the programmer decided to add DRM (yes, really), to the alpha homebrew, and it's trashing some systems it's installed on as a result. See the following link for more info: http://www.sonicretro.org/2012/03/s...able-continues-development-as-closed-project/
That's ridiculous. First a keylogger, and now DRM lol. It's like they don't want you to play it. I don't get why they haven't taken the programmer off of their team yet.. Sounds like he's on drugs.

The version I have does not have the DRM and/or Keylogger. But I did dl it when it was initially released.

I'll just remove it from the queue until it's finalized anyway. Then pass judgement on it for the list.

Plenty of other awesome Sonic fan-mades to play anyway. If I could just finally kill Romero in GunGirl 2 :(.

Bitfighter

Shooter/Arena
Single Player - No

Bitfighter is a free multi-player 2-D space combat game with dual-axes controls. It's a team-based strategy game featuring retro vector graphics and customizable ships. It's fast, fun, and frenetic.

Megazell's Comment - The game comes with a level editor. You should be playing this with a dual stick controller for ease. You can still rock it with other types and KB but maybe be a bit rough.

damn! what is it with this game? even if they do fix it you think anyone will ever trust it? i'll just stay away from this one, sonic's not exactly one of my favorites anyhow.

Try OpenSonic and/or Ultimate Flash Sonic. Those are great homages to what SONIC use to be. Even if you're not into the character the communities behind them many of the levels are outstanding.

ill give it a look and see. i used to enjoy the sonic games on genesis and my favorite sonic game is sonic spinball but when they went 3d, i just lost interest. there's not a sonic spinball remake is there? now i gotta go look for it.

OpenSonic is on the list under Platformers. There is only 1 3D Sonic on this list. The rest are 2D old school.

Megazell, sorry to say that *all* versions of the alpha have the DRM - the dev team stated that the programmer would not release the alpha without it. Again, check out the link I posted above, and you can read what members of the dev team had to say about it (they are none too pleased with the programmer at the moment).

I double check and upload it via PM to ya.

Edit - Just ran it again. It's same as the 2nd link from the site. I also read the link 2x now. There is nothing going off on my virus scans, firewall or anything. I even tried it on a few other rigs. I can take screenshots just fine to. I don't see what the issue is but for now just going to take it off until it's finalized. :)

No problem. Just trying to give you a head's up. No one wants to nuke their system by accident. Aparently, the DRM primarilly kicks in when people try to mess with the .exe file itself. However, I know people who had their systems just quit working after running (or trying to remove) the alpha. I wish it was 100% clean and working, as it looks great (esp. for an alpha release). Who knows? Maybe they'll clean it up for the final version.

Yep. I'm a card carrying member and they are featured in the first post under freeware resources.

I love the idea but the proggies needs more work since it keeps telling me where to install certain games. I install all of my games into a specific folder and I want that in order for me to enjoy a game properly.

LOL can't say I didn't see that coming.

An update at the project's Facebook page cites the loss of key staff members and "internal conflicts" as reasons for the cancellation, as the team's former lead programmer refused to share source code needed to continue development.

What a dick.

Made for the Something Awful Bi-Weekly Game Jam, theme was taking a song and gamifying it. On that note, I have no idea if using a chiptuned version of a pop song is a copyright issue, if anyone wants me to take it down just let me know.

So about the game, it's just your typical platformer with jumps, double jumps, and walljumps. every screen has 3 balloons, once they're popped you'll go to the next level. There's 33 levels.

Arrow keys to move, X to do various jumps.

Xonotic is a free (GPL), fast-paced first-person shooter that works on Windows, OS X and Linux. The project is geared towards providing addictive arena shooter gameplay which is all spawned and driven by the community itself. Xonotic is a direct successor of the Nexuiz project with years of development between them, and it aims to become the best possible open-source FPS (first-person-shooter) of its kind.

Megazell's Comment - Looks familiar? It's stll not 100% up to snuff yet.

Megazell's 2nd Comment - Man this game has come a long way. Looks like Nexuiz but has just enough changes in it to be it's own thing. Finally found a game that was not UT or Quake Live to satisfy by hard to please gaming group. Feel free to join me online as Megazell on Xfire or Raptr to join our matches.

Hungry Forest

Real Time Strategy
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - No
Netbook Friendly

Theme: Fantasy

Originally designed for the Super Friendship Club JUSTICE pageant, Hungry Forest is a quirky little real-time strategy game with an interesting premise. You're some kind of forest god who can only manifest when there is sufficient magic in the world, magic that is derived from vast forests. You don't like human beings very much either, something which is rather understandable given the fact that they seem rather hell bent on obliterating the local ecosystem. As such, you're going to have overrun their little town.

While the new, improved version isn't ready for public consumption just yet, the original iteration is still available for tinkering with. And though it could benefit from a better tutorial, Hungry Forest is rather oddly entertaining. I'm still not sure what's going on half of the time but it is rather satisfying to. - IndieGames.com
not sure if you've heard about this game yet. i made a post over on pcg, thought i'd let u know about it. its called Wreckage...not 100% sure if you put stuff like this on here. heres link to post http://www.pcgamer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17753
Adding it to my stack, Ty for the heads up!

I got the Desura newsletter about it but did not get to it yet.

I'm still in comic book head mode. Got so many free things that I am considering making a couch made out of comics alone :)

If it's free and legal and a PC game....I'll post it. There are a lot of standalone mods on this list.

Thread Update.

Fixed many postings that had bad primary links. As predicted many of the developers/game makers moved on to other website services to promote their games.

Still going through and removing the now dead Megaupload links. For the games that are really obscure I'm putting up a 2nd link while the others I'm less inclined to do so. Google is showing a lot of alternate links for the more popular games. So it should not be a problem for anyone to get those.

Still quite amazed at the amount of freeware and f2p games coming out week by week. Way too much for me to play or even think about playing so the post holder is growing.

Post Holder is currently at 1,825 games that have not been fully posted - http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8886891&postcount=3007

So here is a questions for those that come here:

Should I add another parameter on my posting rules? Currently, the rules are:
Posting Rules

1) Games must be 100% free and legal.

2) No Extra Software!

That means no spyware! No hidden virus! No HTML redirectors! Some games may require a lobby program like STEAM, MTX, Battlenet or others. These programs are the only exception.

3) Games must be easy to run!

You can find a wealth of freeware games that will require use of a third party program or shareware programs or editing of files and so on. Many of those games are awesome. I play them myself and I LIKE THEM A LOT. For the nature of my list, the games posted MUST be easy to install, click and play!
So lately, I've been getting PMs and emails about games that have ads. Games like Quake Live and flash games that are on Armor Games, Newgrounds and others. Now, personally I've always had my browsers and such setup to avoid this stuff. Is this ethical? Debatable. That's not the nature of this question to you guys and gals.

SHOULD a new rule be in place that states no games with ads will be posted?

Now consider that most of the PMs and questions are probably coming from people who are new to PC gaming. So these PC gamers are not as inclined to install measures to counteract the nonsense that veteran PC gamers know about.

I'm leaning more towards YES because I would like the list to be as easy to get into as possible especially for the new PC gamers.

But I am also of the mentality that perhaps this is not that big of a deal...sort of. Since, not that many games still mess with ads except for flash sites and even then a free membership knocks that stuff out for the most part.

What say you all?

Tough call. I know its not a free game but take Killing Floor for example. When you're picking your character and waiting for the round to start a little video plays in the corner for Red Orchestra 2 and the various Killing Floor DLC bundles. Something like that I think is fine since you're not being held up from playing by the ad.

Yeah, I noticed that too when I played it. I found it odd because I found myself putting it on my list of things to post because I kept on thinking it was F2P because of it.

Do you allow ads to roll - not sure if you play flash games that use them - or do you put in a plugin to disable/block?

Thread Update.

Well after much debate both in RL and Online, I've decided to walk away from F2P PC games that have cash shops and/or subscription alternatives.

With that said I am going through the list as I've have already been doing to fix little things here or there and replacing the already posted F2P games with new games.

I will then update a rule to exclude F2P PC games that have cash shops and/or subscription alternatives once all of the old ones have been replaced.

So far I replaced a few - Here is what was put in their place with full posting.

Hot Coffee
Tiny Timmy and Big Bill
As The Village Turns
Tiny Wizard
Tiny Parallel World
The Good Ship Higgs Boson
A Song In The Void
Flare
Pestilence Z
Jag
BattleMaster: War Island
Sapphire Tears
Robots Can't Think
Eunaborb

Enjoy!

TRLE.NET

Your host for all trle custom levels ever released since Dec 2000!

This site is devoted to custom made levels of Lara Craft aka The Tomb Raider. All of the levels can be run direct from the .zip without owning any of the Tomb Raider games.

Check it out here - http://www.trle.net/

You won't actually require the editor if your aim is to play. Just search the level listings and you'll find that all recent releases (as recent as a few years back I think), can run straight from download. I play and review levels from time to time. The community forum is also very useful for when you get stuck in a level which you invariably will - custom levels are prone to contain glitches and some tougher than usual gameplay in some cases.

My all time favourites are the Christmas/Advent levels. I expect some builders spend all year just building one for the Advent Calender releases in December (when else). By and large they are very "playable" and contain few difficult challenges. They are much more relaxed and ambient IMO which suits me as I have always liked the adventurous and explorative aspect of the games

Yeah. I mean outside of truly casual PC/Internet users very few people are stuck having to watch ads.

Though, I am still playing Psi-Ops and I did absolutely nothing to it and I don't get any ads from it at all.
