Microsoft Free domains

your own .com or .whatever web address

Here's a catch:
"Note that once you cancel your Office Live subscription, you are responsible for paying the annual registration fee for the domain name."

This requires a credit card so I'm not interested... thanks anyway!
This seems similar to what google has already with blooger, except that this goes through .microsoft.com
no, you'll get your own top level domain, registered with melbourneit. like someone else said, the catch is that they only pay the registration fees until you cancel it, then it becomes your problem. the credit card is for verification, or for payment for the higher-end services.

Well....if it's free, why would you cancel? Hrmmm.....do I need another domain?

EDIT: Reading further, it looks like even tho the domain name is free you won't be able to do much with it. From what I gather, they won't give you "direct" access to it. In other words, if you put up a site it will be by using THEIR design tools, if you use email you'll check it using their web-based email. You can get real hosting for $3 a month at www.1and1.com, and have full control over your site.
