I was just wondering what Artists/Cd's you would choose if you were washed up on a deserted island. Personally:

Tom Waits- Raindogs/Swordfish Trombones
I don't know if anyone else listens to this guy, but I happen to think he's one of the greatest musicians of his time, if not ever. I can listen to his Raindogs cd over and over and not get tired of it.

David Bowie- Best of Bowie 2cd/Station to Station, Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, Low - I think I covered his better eras? If no one's really heard Bowie much, you should get the Best of Bowie 2cd set as it covers a good deal of his hits.

Talking Heads- Speaking in Tongues, Remain in Light, '77
If you guys have only heard that song "Burning down the House" you OWE it to yourself to listen to the aforementioned cds. They are some of the best music I've ever heard, Especially Remain in Light and Speaking in Tongues

Captain Beefheart-Safe As Milk
Forget the decadence that is Trout Mask Replica, this album is actually a catchy Blues-esque mix.

Frank Zappa- We're only in it for the money, Freak Out
Yeah, he wrote some utter crap, but these two albums are truly excellent.

Chemical Brothers- Singles '93-03
covers most of their greatest moments, a 2 cd set and only like $11.99 at bestbuy. Big Beat is wonderful

Beastie Boys- Paul's Boutique, Chill your Head, To the 5 buroughs
Any one who has heard the Beastie Boys do not need justification for having them on the list. Best rappers of all time? Could very well be.

Actually, I need to go through my collection, so let me know what you think while I look for more to post.

We have a winner!

After I posted it, I realized two characters said it. Stan says bye, and Kyle says the Cure line.

...and yay on my 400th...

In this era of iPODs with 40GB capacity how can we limit ourselves to any list that would fit here?

I might be easier to list those items you'd gladly leave behind if you were never to see civilization again. a lot of stuff I'd never choose to play might start being missed if there were no radio stations to impose them on me.

Given a decade or so I might actually start to miss Sinatra or Presley.

To answer your question,
"I was just wondering what Artists/Cd's you would choose if you were washed up on a deserted island?"

I'd probably say if I could choose Britney Spears, I could really make use of that deserted island.

If you mean music, that's a different question...
Out of all my cd's/mp3 disks, I keep going back to a couple/few artists. At almost any time, I can put in one of these disks [where I have all the cd's i own of a particular artist on one or two mp3cd's], and be in the mood for something on it.

Smiths/Morrissey
Christian Death
David Bowie
GWAR
Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry

I've got some more 'favorite artists' that I am/was really into, but none of them really have the longevity and flexibility that those above do.

Prince - Crystal Ball
Bjork - Homogenic, Vespertine
Faith No More - all of the cd's
Mr. Bungle - California
TOOL - All
Primus - Sailing The Seas Of Cheese, Frizzle Fry
YES - All
Fantomas - Directors Cut
Radiohead - All
Sublime - Second Hand Smoke, and Self Titled
Rage Against The Machine - Self Titled, and Evil Empire

Amon Tobin - All
Hall and Oates - All
and many others...

Stone Temple Pilots - Core
Stone Temple Pilots - Purple
Alice In Chains - Unplugged
Pearl Jam - No Code
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Fiona Apple - Tidal

And all of the Cowboy Bebop OSTs 8)
