I was wondering what the best way to do it would be. It has a piece broken off the motherboard so you would have to replace the whole thing so its basically useless. I have several options , just wondering whats the best way.

Option 1) A guy off of craigslist says he'll give me $100 for it

Option 2) sell it as is on ebay and hope for the best

Option 3) open it up and gut it and sell it piece by piece

By the way here are the specs

64mb nvidia video
3.2 ghz pent. 4
1gb ram
80gb hd
15 in. screen in perfect shape
shell in overall great shape

I'd take that hard drive off your hands for $50 shipped. If the screen is in perfect condition, you could probably fetch a song for it. My buddies dell XPS laptop screen was fubar and he ended up paying $500 for a new screen replacement.

I'd part it out if the other parts are in working order and the machine is a name brand you could find a buyers for the memory, hard drive and the screen. I'd pull the memory and hard drive list both separately and sell the rest include working screen as a package. Check completed listing for screens like your to get a better idea of what to start the listing at since you don't want to end up giving it away. I bet you could get $200-300 if you did it this way

I mean try to see if you can get it fixed dude...spec wise thats a sweet notebook. try to see if a specialist (apple, dell, alienware, toshiba, etc) can fix it at a low price or something...

if not, I say sell it on eBay and hope for the best.
