Not really. People hoard Fatwallet looking for breaks in prices. Spend $4k, get $8k back. They have money to invest, so at that point, it's trivial to spend that amount.
For all the users, there's just a couple, but it seems the site encourages them.

It is not unlawful since this a policy put in place FOR YEARS NOW by a publicly traded company and there is no law against it. I am a CC employee, a CSA who deals w/this policy on a daily basis. Do yourself a favor and just shut up so you don't continue to embarass yourself.

Abusing a stores policy to gain money would be considered fraud.Just like the issue everyone had with the GR "flippers".

I just don't see where buying the game early is illegal or unlawful. No one is holding a gun to a CC manager making them pay the difference. It's their policy get over yourself.

Plus, Shrike is a really good person. He hooked me up during one of the K-Mart sales, and he doesn't even know me! And he's done that for a ton of CAG's out there. You question Shrike, you question most of us. For pete's sake, DX, get off your freakin' faux high horse.

Okay, I know you've been waiting anxiously for my follow up to this post from page 8:

So here we go. I just talked on the phone a few minutes ago with the manager who left me a voice mail last night. He said what tipped him off that I was buying the clearance games ahead of time was Baten Kaitos. He said I'm pretty much the only person who's bought a copy of that game, and he's been looking at that one himself, waiting for the clearance. When he saw on my receipt that I bought it, he started looking through the rest of the games I bought and saw that they were all on the clearance list.

Apparently, CC stores are in the process of pulling all those games until the clearance starts. I just beat them to it. I told him I had heard about the clearance ahead of time, and that I'll be out of town when the deal starts, which is true. I just wanted to make sure I got the games I wanted by buying them now.

He said clearance items are not eligible for price matching at all. I don't know if that applies to all stores or if that's just how he runs his, but that's what he said. I asked if I could do a return/re-buy after the clearance started, and he was okay with that. He said I should call the store when I get back in town on the 5th, and he'll make sure whoever's working that evening knows that it's okay for me to do the return/re-buy.

And I'm pretty sure I didn't take the last copy of Baten Kaitos, so that probably helped my chances of getting a favorable arrangement.

Well, that's the deal here. Looks like I'm in good shape. But I'm still not opening the games until I get the adjustment, just in case.

Best of luck to everyone. I honestly believe anyone with decent haggling skills will be able to do a return/re-buy if you decide to get the games early. However, since stores seem to be pulling the games until the clearance starts, you might want to hurry.

But see, the difference here is that NO ONE IS BUYING THE GAMES NOW TO GAIN MONEY.

Seriously, you'd gain, what? A dollar or two on each games using the 110% policy?

I'm sure if CC told Shrike "we can match the price but not give you the extra 10%" he wouldn't care.

People are getting these games early not for the extra dollar in savings, but so they can not fight through the people potentially hoarding the games to sell later on for profit. Honestly, no one really cares about the extra 10%... it's a nice bonus, sure, but I don't think anyone would care if they didn't get it.

If anything, like D.Monic posted, I'll do a return / rebuy. All I want is the game, which is what anyone wants.

If they don't give my the PM + 10%, CC corp so they can explain it to me why I wouldn't get it. A complaint, yes, though if they explain why I shouldn't get it, then I don't get it and I go with lesson learned.

It's good because it gives more people a chance to get in on the games from the start, however, potentially not so good because CC employees might put aside games they want.

Yep, I worry more about CC employees than I do hoarders this time.

I remember when the last sale hit, the lady working at customer service was filling a basket full of games. When another employee asked her if she was on the clock, she said she was "taking a 5 minute break".
 
well just got back from the Springfield, VA Circuit City to just buy Ridge Racer DS. There were like 4 or 5 Ridge Racer DS's available there.... along with all the other clearance games for Xbox that I was interested in (except for Riddick)... I was tempted to put back the Ridge Racer DS and just go on the 3rd to buy it at $10... but the people in line before me were done so I just bought it...

the hard thing is going to be not opening the game till the 3rd... haha... just in case i have to do that return/re-buy thing.

I can just see it now... a random employee is like "Hey, what are these games for?"

"Oh, they'll be 9.99 next Sunday"

"Sweet, I better get a couple and hold them then".

Now, I don't mind if an employee takes 1 or 2 for themselves, espically if they are working that day... but it's just that damn lady with the basket who had 25 games, and was still on the clock.

That's against CC policy, to be filling a basket like that. They're not even supposed to buy 'em on the clock. When I had issues finding some games in September that were cheap, I spoke with the store manager and she said that they're not allowed to buy games on the clock. I'm sure for 1-2 games, they won't care.

Yup, that's the problem. I remember for the CC error with buy 2 $19.99 games, I was the only one to walk in the whole day. I go up to the counter to make sure these games worked and some guy was like "whoa, these games are only $4.99, SWEET, DUDE, better grab them while I work."

It was the same issue with last years clearance sale, but at least each time I walked out with what I wanted. :)

People are buying the good stuff now to price adjust later. Not for the 10% bonus, necessarily, (I HOPE) but rather to secure a good game before hoarders just buy everything that's cheap.

What's sad is on FW, the 4-page thread just goes over the game list and what prices they go for on eBay. 3 or 4 mentioned actually wanting the games. The rest are just getting all greedy for money.

Apparently people on the FatWallet thread said this will be an annual sale, so it looks to be happening every year around this time.

And there's more confirmations that price adjusting won't work since these are clearance, so just a heads up to anyone else thinking of buying a ton of games.

Actually I talked to a couple of my manager friends(I used to work there) and they said that they will not be honoring the pricematch because the games will be on clearance. Now I don't know if they mean the extra 10% or if they mean the match all together

It was also mentioned that all CC's are supposed to have all the games pulled by today, and get this!! All the games (208 on the list someone said) are going to be put into a giant bin on July 3rd. Imagine rummaging through a giant bin of games with 5 - 10 other people trying to score some of these games.

Please do, I can't wait until two people both grab that last 9.99 copy of Baten Kaitos, or someone throws a punch because some guy is just grabbing handfuls of games and dumping them in his cart.
 
i can comfirm. Today we were instructed to keep the game in the warehouse untill the sale starts. There are also games not on the list ringing up like 2 dollars- five dollars. One of the Triple play baseballs and a harry potter game. The reciepts I saw today had them on it.

The closest CC to me is on Union Square in NYC and they never have anything, tho I will check it out anyway =/

They had a decent selection for last year's clearance sale when I went, but there were tons of other people there and I went first thing in the morning.

I suggest paying a visit to the CC on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn, that is where I really scored a lot of my good stuff ( and I went later the same day and it was still quiet).

That is where I would go first if I still lived in NYC.
