Just to let everyone know, my console just download another update (which makes 3 updates since launch). I randomly clicked the Update button and that's how I found out.

I have no idea what's in store, but it seems like a relatively small update compared to the first two. I suppose I'll look around when it's done to see what's up. Hopefully something good, or it's probably just some backend update.

So I'm guessing the beauty of WiiConnect24 is that it probably already updated for me?

Nope. It's a Wii Shop Channel update. I just went to the channel, and it's telling me to go back and update.

I randomly clicked the Update button. Hehe.

It completed, and I don't see any visual differences. The News and Forecast channels are still inoperable. Still looking around...

So I'm guessing the beauty of WiiConnect24 is that it probably already updated for me?

I would think that as well, but I have WiiConnect24 on and it didn't do it. Then again, maybe I didn't give it enough time, or maybe Nintendo has to trigger something to make WC24 download it, or something.

On my Xbox updates weren't a problem, but so far the Wii updates have frozen or taken too long for me.
All it said after updating was Parental Controls are available, so maybe some sort of Parental Controls in Wii Shop?
It gave me that Parental Controls message stuff too, but it did that when it updated the first two times as well. I have a feeling that message is simply a 'canned' message and not something that changes with each update.

Just checked Wii Shop, it's exactly the same. Checked the Mii Channel, the storage management, and options. Checked the address book, calendar, friends lists. Nothing changed so far.

Gotta check the Photo Channel now - update: no change there either.

I'm all excited and I have no idea what for. T_T

Great! This must be one of those surprises Reggie promised. ;)

I think the Parental Controls thing is accurate.. maybe the Parental Controls on the console didn't apply to the Wii Shop Channel before, but they do now

Well, I sure am glad they didn't push out a patch to do anything about the lack of common sense in how the extra SD card is being handled.

I'm lovin' the Wii (chunked in about two more hours into Wii Sports today), but geez Louise, I sure would love to be able to save games and channels on my SD card and have them show on the menu and to be able to move game saves from system to system.

ok I just updated. I dont really know why, but w/e. I sure hope I didnt brick this console too. I would be pissed.

Doing the update, I just find it weird that we need to do it...isn't that the point of Wiiconnect24? I'm sure they had said that all this would be done while you sleep, eat, beat off thinking of Midna (you know who you are!), or go shopping...

I wish nintendo would post whats in the updates like every pc program or game does. Really.... i still want to know what they changed in the first two.

My guess is that they'll have the software preloaded if it gets to that many updates, such as when they start working on a second batch, or when there is a new bundle.
How bad is it gonna suck for the people who buy a Wii three years from now? They'll be downloading updates for a week straight.
Like the PSP, et al., as newer consoles roll off the assembly line, they'll have the latest firmware for the moment loaded onto them.

There maybe a few updates, but they won't have to do every single one like we do. :)

This would allow you to move saves from system to system from what I can tell.

http://wiisave.com/

It is a site for sharing Wii game saves. It has instructions on how to upload and download the files for use on other Wiis.

I think Nintendo is still working out the kinks with the SD cards. It should get better.

For some reason, while the update was downloading, my screen became really dark. I thought it happened because the download was taking awhile, but it lasted until after the update was complete, and the Parental Controls pop up was shown. Is this normal?

Oh cool! That looks like a pretty neat site. Thanks for sharing it here.

After around 5 minutes or so if inactivity (meaning not moving the Wii Remote or doing anything), the Screen Burn-in Reduction kicks in and dims the screen. Perfectly normal.

Thanks for the reply.
Grr... my update appears to be frozen at like 80-90%
I had to shut off my Wii (against advice from the on-screen message), pray, and turn it back on and update again. It worked.

sorry if this is a dumb question, but i bought my son a wii for christmas are the updates automatic or do I need to connect it to my computer or something.
I would guess that would be a "yes". After all, the browser's not going to be free. I'm going to hold back updating for now.
The browser has already been announced as free, at least for a few months. After those few months, Nintendo has not really decided what to do, but I assume they'd charge a fee (hopefully a small one).

Dunno why they'd wanna charge for the web browser, especially after giving it away free to millions of users. Seems kind of dumb to me. I hope they change their mind.

I agree, especially since they once promised it would be included free with every Wii.
sorry if this is a dumb question, but i bought my son a wii for christmas are the updates automatic or do I need to connect it to my computer or something.
It connects to the internet via Wifi like the DS does but they are making an ethernet adaptor which should be out in january if you don't have Wifi and just have a ethernet cord hooked upto a broadband connection like you would for a normal pc. If you have dial-up well I don't know if you can update and if you somehow can it will be super slow. All this if you can stop playing the darn thing because it is so addicting, lol.

Texas Hold'em for XBLA. Same type of deal, but with more porn and longer downloadable timeframe.

They never promised that it would be free with every Wii, just free to download until a certain point in time.

I tried to go to the Wii shop, just to show the games that are available to my wife, and found that I couldn't go to the shop until I completed the update. Sounds like they could have fixed that DNS issue that people were exploiting with the shop.
