The Nintendo DS will be $129.99 just in time for Nintendogs. I believe the drop occurs 8/21, but it might be sooner. More info soon.

Update - TRU is sending out a flyer for it. It's advertised $129.99, but will be $129.95. The ad is basically for Nintendogs and includes a $10 off $50 NINTENDO purchase coupon(should work on the hardware, so you could get it for $119.95 - last years worked on hardware and I don't think it says excludes hardware). The flyer is only going out to R-zone best guests, though, and should arrive at homes next week. The coupon SKN is 913747.

Update 2 - I figured I might as well post this here, too, since it's more Nintendo news. There are two new items listed in the TRU computer. There is a "GC Ltd Ed PK XD Bundle" listed. The Bundle is priced at $99.99 with no date yet, but at least it looks like Nintendo is going to be trying this Christmas. Also, a GBA SP Sponge Bob system is listed.

Update 3 - The price drop is actually occuring this week. Probably Wednesday or Thursday. It is universal, also. Second, if you do get the $10 off coupon from TRU in the mail it WILL work on the system, so you can get it for $119.95 making it an even better deal. Also, TRU is going to do a special bundle deal for the drop that might make it even better(probably with the Pro Gamers Kit and something else).

Update 4 - Alright this should be the last update for this deal. Here is the bundle TRU is doing for the drop. On Sunday you can get a DS + Spiderman + the Starter Kit (normally $15 and includes headphones, car charger, and screen protector) for only $150 (normally $175). On Tuesday for Nintendogs its the same deal except substitute any Nintendogs game for Spiderman. Hopefully somewhere else has an even better deal, but for now that might be the best. Normally the DS + Nintendogs would cost $160, so you save $10 off the bat plus you get the Starter Kit free basically and if you have the $10 off coupon it would only be $140 making it that much better.

Bundle is only $130 online:

And thanks to everyone in this thread. I honestly think CAG did make Nintendo announce it earlier as usually the drops have been announced by Nintendo around a day before. Thanks and I'm sure to have even more news first for you guys.

I don't mean to get off topic, but do you know anything about any new colors?
I was holding off getting a DS until it dropped in price and now that it will be, Im really wanting to get a black one, but they only come in that color in Japan. : ( Any news on whether the u.s. gets black soon or not?

Of course, I can only hope that truly great software comes out for it soon--Meteos is awesome, Mario 64 was good for one playthrough, but I can't last off of those forever. :X

I hope more people start to get it, I would like a reason to try out its online gaming capabilities. Right now I mainly just play GBA games on it, and some Mario 64 which is pretty good too.

WOW. If they can bundle Metroid Prime and a DS for $130, Sony will have trouble. A game and a PSP from Sony costs $290-$300, more than twice as much.

I doubt they'll have the Metroid Prime Hunters Bundle for $130... it's more likey that $130 for a DS alone or $150 for DS w/ Hunters.

Seriously, the DS is selling just fine... Nintendo doesn't need to beg for people's money yet. They already have a hell of a line-up and they'll have a organized, free online service too!

I'll definitely pick up a DS if there's a price drop to $130.:D

Figures, bought one last week at $150 w/o Mario 64 and now its dropping $20. If my luck means anything then this price drop is probably true.
kinda makes me bummed i bought it at 150 + tax and no free supermario64ds on the first day, even though it was with store credit at gamerush
For everyone who bought a DS at launch... I don't know why you people did it. As far as I saw, before June, there was only 2 or 3 good reasons (games) to own a DS. Otherwise, it was just a glorified GBA.

Things drop in price, things get bundled....thats life. You purchased you're DS in November, which was 7 or so months ago.

No, man, the people who bought the DS at launch rock. Because they made it strong, like an ox, so that now when we swoop in on the price drop we'll have great stuff like Dawn of Sorrow and Lunar: Dragon Song waiting for us.

Right... buy a system for what? Games that're gonna come out months and months after launch?

I'm glad I waited, maybe Nintendo will learn that they should launch their systems with a better line up. Or maybe not as the DS sold like crazy even with a crappy line up (only one and a half good, original games- FTM and the minigames in SM64 DS).

Although it sounds good, where is the source?

The reason I'm skeptical is because it would seem like a poor time to lower the price when Nintendogs is coming out. I personally know of many who will be buying a new DS just for Nintendogs. Nintendo could make more money if they keep it at $150 for a while longer.

Although one could also argue that by lowering it to $130 sooner, more people who wouldn't have bought a DS might reconsider.

I got my DS w/4 games for $225 using the free mario deal and 30% off nintendo games at GameRush. Awesome deal.

I bought a DS at launch and don't regret it. At least it's not like the PSP, where I could be waiting another year or more until a game that interests me comes out....

I updated the original post with somewhat of a confirmation. Originally a Nintendo rep gave me the news, then I got more of a confirmation through TRU. If there are any TRU emps here, pm me if you want to know how to confirm the price drop at work and see pics of the flyer.

Sweet, this means used DS's should probably take a price cut, if they do, then count me in for one! Unless the $130 price drop comes with the SM64 bundle then I might just pick that up. Thanks OP if this pans out right!

You must be high on something because I have no idea what you're talking about. What does this tread has to do with Porn?

Picking up a DS next paycheck if this is true...

I'll wait on PSP until they actually have a library of decent games...

AKA Christmas

I don't understand what he meant by that either. That came out of nowhere, unless he was referring to the Tom Cruise/Baloo gif.

Nice, I got my DS at launch and don't regret it. I hope that Sony at least counters against this by dropping the value pack and selling the PSP standalone for $199.

My luck, too. I ordered one on Sunday using the Overstock.com coupon. Haven't even received it yet. I guess $17 off the price of DS+game is almost as good as $20 off DS alone, but still...

But if you were shelling out $150, why not at least get one with Mario 64?

I want another DS but I'll hold out for at least $100. I too bought mine at launch and enjoyed the version of Urbz EA put out (much better than the console versions).

I definitely would have purchased one before this upcoming holiday season, and the entertainment it's provided me since launch has been worth far more than the $20 I would have saved by waiting until now. Of course, I did use it as a glorified GBA for a while, so you have a point there. Still, Kirby has been a blast, and I most likely would have missed it if I waited until all the huge hits release this winter.

Back on topic, though: This price drop, coupled with the Metroid bundle and the DS's crazy-good lineup, will essentially confirm the DS's victory this Christmas. Unless Sony counters with a price drop of its own, there's no way the PSP can beat this deal. Even all of Sony's marketing BS probably can't kill a success this great. I'm sure the PSP will do relatively well, too, but the DS will be the clear winner come January.

Actually, while Nintendo doesn't need to beg for money, this strategy is really, really smart. Nintendo's pulling out all the stops to build a huge user base for the DS which could potentially crush the PSP if people lose interest in watching movies on the go.

That's true.. what you lose in hardware, you make up for it in software. But if they give away Hunters, then they're losing potential money right there.

Oh well, guess we'll see what this holiday season brings for the DS.:)

My bad. Missed the updated first post. Don't worry about PMing me back.

You know that when I started there I put in my phone number for every transaction I did? I hated asking people for their numbers. Long story short, I got blacklisted. I always feel cheated when I see co-workers come in with those flyers. Dammit, I spend a lot of money there too. On the bright side, once in a while a guest will forget one somewher in the Zone. And that makes me smile. :whistle2:D

No coupons are ever good on hardware, so I'm not sure where you're pulling that from. You work there and you know what cost is. We make less than $10/unit.

You should also mention that it's for Nintendo published games and first-party accessories. A lot of people are dumb and mistake that for items for Nintendo systems.

I want a ds, but i'm a left handed writter and when using the stylus w/ my left hand it makes it very difficult to use the dpad... Wonder if Nintendo ever thought about us lefties?

:(

I'll probably pick up a second one that way me and my girlfriend can play mario kart against each other (I've all but mastered double dash)

:(
I'm sure that the final version of Metroid Prime Hunters would have a lefties mode, but all the other DS games I've played haven't required you to use the d pad and the stylus at the same time.
