And a couple weeks ago the same was said about Ittle Dew 2 (yet another Zelda Lite)...it did not dew it for me. Not bad though. "Must own"? No way. Blossom Tales needs to have a far steeper discount than 30% IMO as it's a small unknown indie released in 2017 and with so much competition. Guess it's banking on being a Nintendo darling in order to make sales. Maybe I'll try once it's dirt cheap (if that ever happens)
I also bought Ittle Dew physical a few months ago and returned it. A better game in my opinion is Cat Quest.

Too late, the game sold well enough on the Switch to keep the company solvent. This was a successful game on the Switch already at regular price.

It’s a good game but I’m not going to tell you it’s must own. If you like 2D Zelda that’s what it feels like except a bit faster. The puzzle elements are good but I would say they rely on the same type too much.

“He who throws dirt loses ground.”

Minute is being sold for almost the same price as the the entire Humble Bundle for March, which includes Minit. Just an FYI for those interested but not willing to pay premium price for an old unknown.

Uhh, Humble Monthly is $12, which is twice the price of it on Switch right now.

I'm not saying it's not a good deal (3 other known games included, plus other unknowns), and you can probably get it for $10.80 with minimal effort, but I wouldn't call twice as expensive "almost the same price."

Just in: every indie game is a worthless "unknown"

I vote for blossom tales. Btw, when you do these streams, I don’t see a link or embedded video in your post. I’m on CAG on my phone 99% of the time so maybe it’s because it’s CAG mobile? All I see is your text saying the stream is live, and a whole bunch of blank space.
Sorry about that, but I think it's a CAG issue since I just post the link to the page itself. You could also follow so you don't have to worry about CAG's weird embed stuff.

Anyone recommend Moonlighter? I've been tempted by it on PC but would love it likely on the Switch.
I have it for both Xbox One and Switch. I really enjoy it. It took me a while to beat it but when you get more into the game you can speed things up once your store is big enough to hire a helper. Then you can go to the dungeons during the day and still make money during the day without being at the store. They also added some new updates to the game that add companions, new mini bosses and new game plus.

What does everyone else feel about the Wall Street Journal article about the 2 new versions of the Switch rumored to be coming out?
I can't link the WSJ article because it is subscription, so here's The Next Web.

This could be interesting!

Make a $200 console that comes preloaded with Tetris 99, and I'll buy at least 2.

Anybody have any idea when katamari will hit a sale on eshop? Thx
No.

A Vita-sized Switch would be amazing and I could finally take it out of the house.

I started looking into this game, it looks interesting and would like to get it at some point.
Now to figure out which will be cheaper, the eshop or cartridge version and when to get it.

I'd love an actually portable Switch. The current form just isn't practical for anything but lounging on a sofa or bed.

All I've wanted since the NS was first shown, was some form of lite/mini, as almost everything that makes the Switch a Switch, I could care less about. I have zero interest in connecting a handheld to my TV, no desire to remove the controllers, or scan Amiibos or HD rumble. All of these "features" comes at a cost and why I have refused to buy an NS until it reaches $200 or less.

I think if they go with a portable switch and a powerful switch. I might upgrade to the fancy one if they make it worthwhile.
If they do offer a "pro" of some time, I really don't see what they may have planned, especially since the base unit is $300, so a pro I would guess would fall in the $400 range. At best it may match the base PS4/ONE, but with new versions of those systems on the horizon, this doesn't seem a great idea at the moment, but who knows?

Now if they just offer a "new" version, like they did for the 3DS where they give you some extra bells and whistles and discontinue the previous model, then it's a great idea(keeps the same $300 price). But some have guessed this may be a way for the NS to keep getting the ports it has been, as the divide is only going to get bigger the next gen, and ports to the NS may fall off if it becomes to hard to downgrade PS5/Two, etc. So in this situation, a pro may help them to continue getting proper support, but only time will tell.

I think you mean couldn't care less. If you could care less, then you wouldn't have zero interest in those features.

Anyways, I can't really imagine Nintendo removing the docking feature, at least. I feel like that's the main draw of the Switch - the ability to use as a handheld or a console.

Yeah, I could say the same about the "3D" of the 3DS, as it's in the title of that system, but that was removed, as many didn't want or need it, especially to the higher cost of a feature some couldn't even use(due to health issues).

Why would tetris being preloaded be a draw? It's free, and unlike the fortnite edition, there are no microtransactions tied to the game.
Technically it's not free, as it's a part of their online service. Which is another feature I have no plans to pay them for anytime soon, as I see zero value in old NES games(or online play). Tetris 99 is pretty cool, just not something I'm willing to pay an annual service fee for.

I dont mind paying full price for katamari, i just didnt want the scenario you just mentioned to be the situation..... so , you understood my question in the question....good buoy” (Shang tsung - MK movie)

In any case, i have to disagree: i find the switch to be exactly what it should be as it is. I find no problems with the transition or switchin with portable,., in fact, i think making a “lite” version and a “pro” version would be a mistake in the vein of Sony, and i hope nintendo doesnt go down that path.....but they usually make good choices in the end, as they did with this.....so w/e....in the end, I’m enjoying the switch as is, as originally intentioned and implemented (and i have no problems with positive changes in the future, as long as they make sense and aren’t just a “me too” console movement)

Yeah, I could say the same about the "3D" of the 3DS, as it's in the title of that system, but that was removed, as many didn't want or need it, especially to the higher cost of a feature some couldn't even use(due to health issues).
Fair, but I also feel like most people do want the console/handhold hybrid feature in the Switch (though there are certainly many that would like it to be more portable than it is in its current form).

Yeah, for those who want the hybrid, they can buy the hybrid, I'm not really seeing the issue, as it won't be leaving, just offered in other forms. "N" biggest issue of their entire 30+ years in gaming is the lack of options, and possibly offering 2 more systems(1 for the budget, and 1 for hardcore), seems like they are finally warming up to the idea.

Lack of options? Compared to Sony and Microsoft that have done what exactly that would be considered options? Pro models?

I see the Switch has having more options out of the box with the very concept of handheld or docked. I’m not sure I get that statement.

Haven't they been offering options in the handheld space for decades?

Yeah, my comment was geared to the "console" side of their offerings, as they've never much bothered with new versions of consoles. Of course a budget NS is the natural progression of what you have shown, as they've never had an issue in the handheld sector.

A pro anything is new to them, as power has never been a key thing they have tried to be a part of in the past. If anything, less is more has been their ideals in regards to the home consoles since the Wii. Also if true, they have never seen fit to offer 2 different classes of systems at the same time. It's always been here is the Lite, DSi, XL, or whatever, but always a break. Not to say these rumors are true, but I could see them offering two different new system in a similar time frame because why not, they both appeal to different consumers with different needs.

I don't know if they've had "options" as in having multiple models out at the same time, but the NES had multiple SKUs (mostly pack-in differences) and ultimately had the top-loader redesign.

SNES had the redesign too, GameCube had a revision as well (removal of the component cable port and some other slight changes). Wii had the removal of GameCube support in later models. Wii u had the white and black systems that had slight differences.

Alright, I think we’ve all well demonstrated that Nintendo has, indeed, offered multiple hardware revisions. I think the broader point to be made is that, historically, consoles just haven’t really offered multiple revisions, with significantly different feature sets, at different price points, on the market concurrently with each other, until this console generation (or last generation, if you count different-sized HDDs). The reason that portables HAVE been doing mid-generation refreshes for 20 years is because they’re cheaper to begin with, and are positioned more at being owned by a single individual, rather than shared amongst a whole household, so the sales target is for multiple SKUs per household. It’s not inconceivable to purchase the newer model and hand down the older one to a younger sibling, which you wouldn’t necessarily do with a console. And since they’re targeted at younger gamers, there’s always a new generation of customers “aging in” to a handheld purchase, so it makes business sense to offer updated models at a faster pace.

My point is that Nintendo’s not alone in failing to offer multiple options in their home console hardware, it’s more that that’s just kinda the way that market has historically operated. You could argue that Sega is the one company that deviated from this norm by offering multiple optional hardware upgrades for the Mega Drive/Genesis... at their financial peril :)

In fact, if anything, I would credit Nintendo for offering inexpensive optional upgrades for the N64, like the RAM Pak, offering increased frame rates and resolution for supported games... at a time when Sony sure could’ve used a RAM expansion of their own to handle 2D arcade ports.

BUT! I think chrislaustin’s point (and please correct me if I’m putting words in your mouth) is that he just wants a dedicated handheld, and he doesn’t want that long-standing option, that Nintendo has always offered, between a cheaper portable and a more expensive console, to disappear. That’s a totally fair criticism. If all you want is a handheld, you used to be able to just buy an inexpensive handheld, and not pay a premium because it also included a “console” experience you didn’t ask for.

Now I’m not here to defend a corporation. Corporations are not your friends and they don’t need online fanboys defending them; they need to offer good products at good prices. But austin, as a fellow grown-up and dad, I will offer this perspective: the Switch has been my most-played system by a MILE these past two years. It just fits into my adult life in ways I didn’t know I needed until I owned and used one for a while. While I’ve always loved portables, I’ve found that I don’t really need them to be POCKETABLE anymore, so the form factor of the Switch is kinda perfect: big enough to be comfortably playable on the couch or in bed, but still small enough to take in my bag to kill time at work. The detachable Joy-Con meant multiplayer for me and my kids right out of the box, and we can easily take it to family gatherings, prop it up on a table, and play a few rounds of Mario Kart with some cousins. And I like to enjoy bigger games like Mario Odyssey and BoTW on a bigger screen. Because the Switch is basically a glorified tablet, it boots as quickly as my phone. I can instantly hop into Hyrule right where I left off within seconds, and if my wife wants to watch Netflix or whatever on the TV after the kids are in bed, being able to just grab it out of the dock and take it over to the couch is a godsend.

It’s hands-down the most flexible video game experience I’ve ever owned in over 30 years of playing games, and believe me, I’ve been modding consoles and handhelds for nearly 20 years, so I’m someone who likes my hardware to do what I WANT it to :) The Switch is like a luxury handheld. It’s “handheld-deluxe.” I’m not trying to convince you to go out and buy one, and if you’d really rather wait for a cheaper, simpler model, hey man, I totally understand. I just think you might appreciate its current feature set more than you might think.

Sorry for the essay, fellow CAGs.

I'm playing through Blossom Tales right now and am getting to the end and it's really good. I would probably go with Yokus over it but you can't go wrong with either.

For me, I rarely ever dock it. I have gutted the massive dock and use just the board inside a super tiny dock. The actual board inside the switch dock is like 2” square.. the dock is way oversized for what it needs to be.

I hate how flimsy the switch feels when handheld so I have a case around the switch to make it sturdier. (Hold your switch with joycons attached and you can feel the flex between the joycons and the screen, it worries me that this is the weak point that will fail while playing or get caught on something and bend/break)
I bought a case that I can still remove the joycons and leave the case on, the old case required me to remove it first.. annoying.

If the rumors are true, not sure if I’d rather have a smaller switch with non detachable joycons.. like a vita, or a larger more powerful switch. If the “pro” is the same size but more powerful.. then I’d buy that.

Well, I think the devil’s gonna be in the details. I think if they can offer a cheaper model with non-detachable controls (and a proper d-pad, for chrissake) and no included dock for, say, $200, that’d be a really desirable offering. Then, you can still buy a dock and extra controllers seperately if you later want to “upgrade” to the console experience.

My vote would be Blossom Tales. I liked Yoku's Island but I some of the "pinballing" was a little frustrating at times to move on to the next area. Blossom Tales was a fun romp that ended before it overstayed it's welcome.

Yoku's has a demo. I played the demo to completion and really didn't find it interesting enough to warrant buying the game (I was looking at the physical option as it was getting cheap on Amazon). Try the demo.

As far as Blossom Tales goes, I think it depends on how much you love classic zelda type games by other devs. If I had to chose to buy one or the other, I'd go with Blossom Tales but that's because Yoku's demo didn't really make me want the full experience and Blossom Tales legit looked awesome in the segments I watched from the video Frisky made.

Great post. I could see what the Switch was going to be from the start as I was into the Vita and PSTV combo (using PS+ to move saves back and fourth between the console and handheld) as well as own a PSP Go with the Dock & PS3 controller (a very similar experience to the switch, just lower end visuals and only single player). It has proven itself to me in so many ways. I do more console style gaming now because of it, and the joy of my wife watching something on TV I'm not interested in and I can just go grab the switch from the dock and not have to leave the room is great. I don't take it out of the house as much as I thought I would... but I'm fine with the form factor as I bought a travel case for it that isn't monstrously huge. I like the oversized dock a lot as it's the default home for the system in my setup and so it's pretty much always charged and ready for fun.

Anyway, great post. Glad the system ended up opening your eyes to the possibilities.

Both games are great, I really like pinball so Yoku's was a amazing game. The music and level design are top notch.

Blossom Tales is also a great game but it is really not doing anything new. It is a really well done top down Zelda clone.

My vote is buy both but if you can only get one I'm voting for Yoku's Island Express.

My switch is 100% docked. I don't game on the go. I'd prefer a cheaper non handheld home console version. Kids love to just snatch it out of the dock like it's a toy. I worry it's going to break.

Now you bring up a point I never thought of, but is still another avenue not discussed or traveled for that matter. How about an NSTV or type device that is only for the TV? As that would offer a cheap alternative to those who don't want to game on the go, and don't need the hardware that requires.

My switch has had tape on it pretty much since the day I got it. The kickstand went rogue all the time and a few months in the back plastic body got a crack in it. It’s all cosmetic but I would support a more durable model in the future but eh not so much if it’s more expensive.
