The rumored console could very well be 2020, and the nature of the update could also simply be a chipset and screen refresh that may not even be noticeable to the user.
You should just get the Smash bundle if you want it, and consider a trade-in whenever a significant upgrade happens.
Cloud saves make the process a lot easier.
The rumor is it will be 2019.. thats the main one that keeps coming up. but I do agree with you, its all rumors right now.

Buy now, enjoy and decide to “upgrade” later if it does become true.

So are digital games still forever tied to a console like the 3ds?

hey switch owners, any reason I should hold out for the rumored updated console?

I was originally holding out for a possible Bayonetta console, but that may be a while, and the special consoles aren't really super impressive anyway. Considering going with the Smash console bundle.
I've been holding out since the NS launched, but that's due to me not liking the current form factor. If and when a new unit arrives, I wholeheartedly expect it to be a smaller, cheaper more stripped down version that can meet their need for a sub $200 handheld/console option. The time frame given in rumors falls in line with past GBA, DS, and 3DS revisions.

Of course some people are holding out hope/want for a "Pro/X" style upgrade, but that makes next to no sense for "N", as there are no games on this system that would really benefit, and they need to be going down in price and not up. By the end of 2019/early 2020 the 2DS/3DS should be all but over, and they will need something to capture the budget minded parents and gamers, and that is what I'm waiting for personally.

If you like the current form factor, and plan to use the features as they are now, and don't mind the price, there is ZERO reasons to wait. If you might prefer something smaller, and more up to date, then I would suggest waiting, but of course, the choice is yours.

EDIT: Battery life currently sucks as well, and that is something else I expect will be improved with any revisions released.

I would imagine the rumored Switch upgrade would retain its current form factor to keep in line with its compatibility with accessories like the Joy-Cons. If not, I can only see it getting an XL-style upgrade opposed to a Lite. At this point, I'm expecting more efficient hardware that uses less power (and therefore better battery life). A Pro/X/N3DS upgrade won't happen until maybe "Year 4-5" of the Switch's lifespan.

So are digital games still forever tied to a console like the 3ds?
I think I recall that Switch games are tied to your Nintendo Network or My Nintendo account. But I would still imagine that they would be tied to your console in some way and you have to revoke its permissions. Though not having the old console would be a bit of a hassle, and is a different story.

Nice sales this week. Grabbing Crypt. Battle Chasers is tempting but its been cheaper on other platforms and I expect it will continue to drop

No. Switch digital is tied to your Nintendo ID that you can transfer from switch to switch.

When I went from two to one switch I had no issues transferring my ID and redownloading all of my games. The process was pretty fast and painless since I already had both in hand.

So if you trade in a switch down the road for another switch, that may be troublesome if you need both.

The only trouble would be your save files can’t be transferred unless you have switch online or both consoles and an internet connection at the same time.

When you link your Nintendo ID all of your digital purchases are available for download.

Nintendo is improving, but still way behind the rest when it comes to digital stuff.
Someone posted about their switch getting stolen.. the process requires a call but it can be done with only one switch. And unless games saved online.. those are gone.
Another reason why N is dead last, zero offline game save ability.

for those of you looking to maybe buy battle chasers this week, check your local Walmart. I bought a copy for $15 the other day. And then traded it in for a profit and the epic quest GameStop beta before playing it.

The switch copy is hard to find... $15 at walmart? Would love to find a few copies myself.
I paid $25 a while back and had to wait forever to get it.. was backordered.

Fun game btw for those that havent played it.

Anyone play Halloween Pinball? Looks pretty fun for $1.79...
I picked it up since it was pretty cheap. It's ok I guess. Nothing fancy. You can't change the view like you can in other video pinball games. Not a lot of play modes like I am used to in other pinball games either. I noticed some frame rate issues here and there which made the ball jump a little which is a bit disorienting. Very bare bones and a bit clunky is the best way to describe the game.

Considering you can get much nicer tables in Pinball FX/Pinball Arcade/Stern Pinball I would say this is not really worth it at $2. Maybe $1 or less would be a fair price?

My god PJ Monsters 2 was a disappointment. They virtually reskinned the original and added insta-loss, trial-and-error win conditions. Online mode is poorly organized resulting in finding no one to play with since launch. Get fucked Q Games

Thanks, saves me a few bucks, I’ll look into the other options.

Weird. The original is the same kind of trial and error system as PJM2, so I enjoyed it a great deal. The only difference is that enemies in PJM generally stuck to the paths whether they were flying types or not, so PJM2 lets the fliers fly different paths to be more challenging. I really enjoyed this as a sequel to the original and need to put some more time into the DLC levels that seemed neat from what I've played.

The trial and error frustrations I was referring to regarded the differrent paths flying enemies took. It's completely random on the first playthrough. The problem is that levels take a while to complete, so once youve spent all this time preparing for any enemy to come down any path, you get some BS "tricky" path (idk why they didn't just leave that for the "tricky" difficulty) and there's absolutely nothing you could've done other than look at a guide/YouTube vids or something. It just feels like a cheap way to prolong the game.

In the first, if you didn't have a good set up to cover all the paths, that was on you. Now I blame the game and that's no good.

So I have checked out some reviews for the scribblenauts mega pack and seem to be pretty positive. 19.99 for two games doesn't seem like that bad of a deal. Anyone played this or interested in it?

They're not random, you're just not aware of where they'll go before you've played the stage, which I don't think is any cheaper than the original. The same happens at times in the original game, as they have some tricks with alternate paths like in the bridge level or others have more open paths where enemies could go a variety of ways at different times. It had some of the same style of design, just in 2D and a bit less challenging at times. You don't need to look things up unless you don't want to play the game in the first place.

As you play more of PJ Monsters 2, you unlock more towers that give you more options for how to tackle those flying enemies that are a bit tougher earlier on with just the anti-air tower or just by using your knowledge of their paths to better prepare for them. I really don't see how it's all that different from the first game.

They're not random, you're just not aware of where they'll go before you've played the stage, which I don't think is any cheaper than the original.
But the original doesnt have the tricky flying paths, thus not as random and cheap. Sorry cant really help how I feel. It is how it is. Thankfully I'm not alone, but it's not unanimous either. Not that Q-games has any PR tact whatsoever so Im not expecting any change.

Yes, it does have them with stages like the bridge stage and some of the deluxe edition stages. It's not random or cheap since it's the same style of design as the original where you learn how to adjust from the first few playthroughs to best do a perfect run later. It's fine if you don't like it, but I guess it's just a difference of preferences.

So I have checked out some reviews for the scribblenauts mega pack and seem to be pretty positive. 19.99 for two games doesn't seem like that bad of a deal. Anyone played this or interested in it?
I played the original and bought the megapack full price for my kids who have totally ignored it. It's a solid port and to my understanding has all the original licensed DC stuff the Wii U version had.

I seriously do not get the treatment that super smash brothers is getting from Nintendo. They are having a total of 3 directs with two of them solely for Smash. You would think that Smash Bros is the best selling franchise for nintendo by far but it isn't. Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, and Splatoon never got three directs, some didn't even get two directs. As a person who doesn't care for Smash, it seems like Nintendo is just trying to find ways put out directs in a very slow year.

*shrug* Smash tends to be the system seller, while the rest are "I'll definitely buy if I have a Switch."

Although I think Splatoon might have replaced Smash as the better system seller. But we shall see.

Yeah I am sure that Smash will sell a lot of systems however it won't sell more systems than a Zelda or Mario game. I looked at what games sold the most for the Wii U, and Smash I think finished 5th overall behind mario and zelda. I just don't get the additional attention it gets versus other games that sell more.

I’ve been starving for more official smash news. However, I could totally see how those who aren’t fans are let down by the non-Smash news this year.

Because you don't seem to know what system seller means. Just because it sells more, doesn't mean it's what gets people without Switches to buy a Switch. Smash on the Wii U was the fastest selling title, and generated significant console sales, regardless of how many it ended up selling in total.

See here. You can tell right away when Smash Wii U released. Hint: It's the second highest quarter, beaten only by the launch quarter.

Well considering Smash is their only game pretty much worth a damn for the year, I figured fans would be shouting from the rooftops about this direct. LOL

Yeah, I personally don't see this converting anyone who wasn't interested in the first place, but since this is it for the year, why not? My son was just asking me last week if a new Smash direct was announced, or direct in general and I told him a Smash direct was more likely than just one showing new games. I figured since this is the big holiday title, they would have a direct for no other reason than to drum up buzz and try for the best push possible for the end of the year.

The team behind the Bit.Trip Runner games is making a new Bubsy game for Switch for 2019:

This just looks exactly like Runner 3 with a Bubsy skin...

When do preorders go live?
Yeah, that's what I thought seeing the trailer, which is why I'm not understanding all the hate. Yeah, Bubsy has been a **** character and game from the start, but this easily looks like the best one yet, hands down. So even though it's a following in the foot steps of another game, at least it's a good/successful one, which maybe they should have done from the start. LOL

I was hoping to hear his tag line quote "What could possibly go wrong?" in the trailer.
LOL, yeah, I forgot about that. I guess they didn't want to jinx this project, as we all have seen how well that phrase worked in the past, as the first game pretty much answers that question in spades.

I loved Runner 1&2 and disliked 3. They added too much nonsense to the gameplay that it got overly complicated and ceased to be fun.

Part of it probably is that it's a slower year: Mario Kart, Zelda, Splatoon, and Odyssey all came out in the same year, but Smash is the game for this year.

But I think a larger part is that a game like Smash lends itself better to a slow drip/big hype of information. With Smash, you can have a Direct and show just a few characters at a time, maybe a new mode. Then another to show a few more, and some stages. Then another to say "this is it! This is everything you're going to get!"... If you tried to do the same thing for Zelda, the content wouldn't generate as much attention. Talking about "You can take your horse to a stable in this game!" for 10 minutes isn't going to get as much hype as "We're adding Simon Belmont!"

And it's just that fighting games in general are easier to hype. Street Fighter 5 has been out for over 2 years, and still hasn't hit 3 million copies sold. The new God of War hit 3 million in a matter of days... but only one of those games fills arenas with spectators, and it's not the latter. Fighting games may not sell as well as single-player narrative games, but for each Smash copy sold you've got a few more people that didn't buy but will watch the events.

Not really a fan of the auto runners like that... but for those that are, ok... there you go... Bubsy Runner 3.

I'm cautiously hyped for the final smash direct.  The Castlevania crossover helped push this from something I was buying mainly for my kids to something I'm actually interested in playing regardless of if they want to play.  Hopefully there's some incentive to play single player.

Overall this year was fine by me.  After playing and falling in love with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (and buying the N3DS port of the first game and X for the WiiU) I got Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna and soon enough Smash.  It's been an easy year on my wallet as I only picked up around 8 new release games between all systems with my latest game being Cat Quest (loved that, got the physical release).  I think I've bought maybe 8 games on older/classic systems.  It's nice going for just what I want to play and not having a massive backlog on Switch.  My vita collection also is shrinking as I spent time weeding it down to just what seemed fun.
