Companies keep big sales data that can be analyzed a thousand different ways. If your data says you don’t have to have a sale to make money or frequent sales then you don’t do it.
 
Am I crazy for wanting to buy the SNK collection just for Crystalis... never beat it as a kid. Are any of the other games any good? Does anyone know if there is a vertical layout option for the schmups?

 
I grabbed the SNK collection. Honestly, I'll buy anything Digital Eclipse touches. They're doing as much as anybody [EDIT: anybody who isn't a pirate, anyway] to preserve old games and make them accessible to people.

It got a regular retail release.

I might get Runner 3 since I think it was overpriced at launch for the type of game it is. No offense to the developer of course just in my eyes runners are not $40 experiences. I would say with such a steep discount already it did not sell that well.

Woah Dave was surprisingly fun. I probably should get Space Dave at some point.

 
I played a bit of Space Dave and it's pretty fun. It's their take on Galaga and Space Invaders, whereas Woah Dave was maybe their take on Joust and Mario Brothers, though I might be wrong on that.

 
Question on Jackbox discounts:

I bought JB3 and now I see the 20% discount on JB1 and JB2. If I buy one of those does the discount stay on the other? Also does it stack with sales?

well know its a nintendo first party game so they wont let it, except for pokemon, most of their other titles never go on sale, either hope they make it a classic in 4-5 years or since every year now nintendo just rebundles that game with some sort of guide to get people to bite, look at it like a full price game plus an overpriced 10$ partial guide with artwork

They changed a lot about Runner 3 that it sounds like it made some fans mad. I personally love the game. I’m also thinking the higher price probably kept a lot of prospective buyers away. I feel like it was a fair price, plus I think I got a discount by pre-ordering. Also only releasing on Switch and Steam only may have hurt them, if there were a lot of fans on PS4. Hopefully with the price drop (or is it just a sale?) and being on PS4 now will help them.

I have a feeling that pretty much anything that hasn't seen a discount on Wii U from Nintendo by now isn't going to.  Like others, I've been waiting for a sale on Fatal Frame for ages but I can't see that happening either at this point.

Good question. 

I generally try to get it when it's on sale (when I'm able to). A lot of times though, the sales are pretty random, so the timing may not always be at a point when I can pick it up. So it's onto waiting again.

If there is a game I want I will jump on the first sale that comes around. If I wait too long then it seems that I now have new games competing for my attention. Then before I know it I just never played the game at all.

And I firmly believe a “backlog” is nonsense.

If there's a game I really want bad, I buy it at launch 90% of the time. Which usually means full MSRP.

Everything else I have a price in mind, and I wait until it hits that mark.

I also am one that doesn't believe in a backlog. Backlog to be is AKA "games I will literally never play ever."

Gotta agree with the replies, and ill add 2 cents, For me mSrp is usually offset with GCU, and MSrp for me Is usually only CoD on release for my household...

but games are getting so cheap ; after reading how you guys in here can predict or have a good guess regarding digital sales, that I think after my GCU expires (and armed with a 128gb Sandisk extreme plus micro SD) I’m gonna finally start shopping in the eShop

PS when you save to the SD, do you play off of it (Like BF one on sale for $25 at BB) or do you load it onto the console to play?just bought my first major title “runner3”

That's generally me with Pokemon games a lot of the time. Generally I save up for one or both games.

Yea depending on the game, some are still rather expensive. So for anything 1st party, I get a few a year. Generally if there's a good sale for the most part though. Anything else I get used. (For any physical games, in terms of used. And for the 1st party stuff, either digital or physical.)

It's worth it sometimes. I try to check every week or so, to see what's on sale. That's how I try to keep track. A lot of times it can be shovel ware though, but not all the time.

On the Vita, I do (not quite the same as an SD, but similar in terms of having digital games stored on it). As for my Wii U, I play off my external drive more often than not. Haven't started to play my Switch just yet. Still have to get a screen protector for it.
