When I tried dark souls on switch it ran well, but felt too weird to me. The button location did not match well with my muscle memory. And the button layout of NS is diff than Xbox but close enough to confuse

I appreciate the look into SteamWorld Quest. Definitely not my cup-o-tea, so money saved! Last night I finally popped in my copy of SteamWorld Dig 2 and started playing it. It's just as fantastic as the first game. Hopefully they make another Dig game. I'll buy those pretty much every time... but so far none of the spinoffs have really appealed to me at all.

Any historical data on BOTW going on sale soon?
It's $49.94 at walmart for a physical copy right now.

A person in the reddit thread I found this deal in said they used the chat system on BestBuy to get them to price match for the digital version... if that's what you are after.

Me too. Damn. Lol
woulda been me 3
But I got katamari

And then there were one or two other EXCELLENT full games ($20 or $30 as well, forgot titlez) but if you saw them and those two games appeal to you you know which it is I’m sure so I lll wait

Unless an eshop cArd goes on sale for 20% off!! Then I’ll buy it all

Can’t speak for anyone else, but I’d kinda prefer complete posts made whenever you’re finished, instead of part now and part later. This is assuming it’s not really any difference in how much trouble it’d be for you, of course.
Just to weigh in, I don't mind a partial post because I know how much of a pain in the behind it is to post deals. I do the Android game thread posts on a semi-regular basis, and I can tell you that copying/pasting and/or linking all that crap is a huge undertaking. And the Android thread doesn't have nearly as many sales as the ones for the major game systems do.

So, hats off to Frisky for all of his hard work. No complaints here.

Frisky, I'm just here to say I'm grateful for any and all work you do for us. You're certainly not obligated to do any of it and you owe us nothing and yet you give us so much.

I’m just saying if he’s going to post the 3DS and Wii U deals anyway, and it isn’t more work to post them at the same time (at the time that he was going to post the 3DS/Wii U deals, rather than rushing to get part of it out early), I personally would prefer everything posted together at that later time. For my part, it’s very easy to forget to check back for part of the deals when I’ve already seen some, and I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m in no particular rush to see weekly deals a few hours (or even a day) earlier.

If it is extra work, though, he shouldn’t worry about it.

Keep in mind that Frisky only posts the 3DS and Wii U deals for me anyway because I'm the only CAG who is too poor to own a Switch.

I just use my general dislike of Nintendo as a corporation and its holier-than-thou approach to gaming to hide my shame. 8-[

The Way Remastered is back on sale for $0.99.  I started playing it a couple nights ago and it's a very cool adventure game with platforming elements.  Well worth the $1.

Sorry, I should have specified I'm in Canada.

Played a few hours of SteamWorld Quest. I had my first death finally. Some of the game feels a bit grindy, as money is kind of scarce and card crafting/upgrading requires a good amount of farmed resources and money. The battle system is usually pretty good. I like how you build up gears to do strong moves. It makes it so you can't just spam the best moves. The combo system to get a weapon attack (3 of the same character cards played per turn) or making other attacks stronger is a pretty cool concept and you will need some of those powers. It can be a challenging too, but as long as you play with buffs correctly, and try to mitigate damage, you will do alright. The story is extremely standard and nothing special. The sound is pretty good, though I wish the characters had voices, but it's alright. I'm playing it on the hardest difficulty and it can be pretty hard. Overall I'm enjoying it a pretty good amount and will likely breeze through it once I get past some grinding blocks right now. also the graphics are very good IMHO. The walking around reminds me of Plague Road, but this is so much better. I would recommend it to card game junkies and people wanting an RPG where you just cannot spam the same attacks over and over. It is supposedly shorter around 10 hours, but it will take a bit to get there. Overall early impression for me is around a 7.5/10.

The characters do have voices, you’re just not fluent in Robot!

Thanks for your impressions, I was planning on buying it either way as I’ve loved all their previous games and want to keep supporting them. But this lets me know it will be money well spent.

The mechanics of dark souls is hard to adjust for me...feels like a [EARLY *] pC game

Having played Dark and Demons Souls, I have absolutely no idea what you mean by it feeling like a PC game.

But yes, there’s a steep learning curve. The games are supposed to be challenging.

Ok....early PC games (that are in the vein of this genre) were stiff and cumbersome . Conquest of Camelot etc

This feels like that... and if you understood that the mechanics are difficult, you unwittingly got the point

[...] were stiff and cumbersome [...]

[...] the mechanics are difficult [...]
There are a lot of valid complaints about the Souls games, but these aren’t really among them. If you’re having a hard time, it’s because you need practice, not because the controls are too cumbersome.

People have problems with souls games for lots of reasons. No need to put them down.

Especially if it’s your first souls game, let your self look things up. Even just videos on how combat works or tips. It can feel way off until it clicks. but don’t give up and look for help and it turns into a satisfying experience.

Instead of stiff, maybe think of it as carefully timed. Try not to keep hitting the attack button and watch for the right time to quick attack once or twice.

The first time I remember playing Dark Souls, it did feel rough, since it's the first time I've played a game like this in a long time. Everything you and your enemies do has a deliberate tone to it, and there is a certain "weightiness" to it. Thankfully it is not one of those "suck it up, deal with it" hard games (Something I think bad imitators concentrate too much on), since part of the rewarding experience is being able to learn the pattern and overcome those challenges. I think I recall that there is a "musical" quality to the battles as well. It's still a hard game, yes.

The Souls series has always felt like a throwback to old school console games to me, when games were less about hand-holding and more about skill, finding secrets, and learning patterns. And have you tried playing Dark Souls with mouse and keyboard? All I can say is good luck with that! So I don’t really get the PC reference. But yeah, Soulsborne definitely isn’t for everyone.

Problem is, Dark Souls isn't cumbersome...it just has rules and boundaries.  But, in a way I do get what you're talking about.  It's just that Dark Souls has this ceiling.  You'll hit your head on that ceiling many times, and until you break though it, I'll feel cumbersome.

Yes, don't be afraid to look things up. Understand that there is no "best weapon", you need to find what fits your style and get used to it, same with armor. In fact there isn't even a best style or best type of armor or weapon. Some people go in light and quick, others sword and board and barely keep their weight under slow rolling. Some like rapier style, other swear by big two handers. The best way is what feel best to you then learn from others that made similar choices.

Also, do not feel shame in summoning help, you can learn alot from more experienced players and how they deal with a boss.

Grabbed VOID for $2 since I love Mega Man-style games and the Switch has a metric ton of games. VOID is...certainly one of them. It reminds me of Rad Raygun in that it gets what Mega Man is in a paint by numbers way, but lacks the polish needed to recommend it - even at $2.

Remember guys?, I was the first person who posted the demo was up and I’ve given it a few goes but I hesitated in purchase during that particular sale because I was afraid I couldn’t invest time .its been on my “possibility” log ever since because Conceptually it’s fantastic

I asked thinking either I was having some inept moment in my control abilities or maybe others got frustrated and stopped there as well, just a survey ....if you find it easy, then I totally commend u

There's apparently some kind of mild sale going on that I can't seem to find any theme for, and isn't included in the most recent sale list.  Stuff like The Messenger for $17, GRIS for $14.44, and a couple of Sega Ages titles like Phantasy Star and Thunder Force IV for $6 apiece.

If nothing else, I'm on board for Thunder Force IV, as $6 looks to be the cheapest these Sega titles get.

Devolver Digital is doing one of those publisher sales that if you own one of their games you get 15% off (most) of the others. Katana Zero is not on sale, probably because it just came out.

Ah, that makes sense, as I just picked up Minit recently. It just doesn't seem to be advertised anywhere? I find the eShop difficult to navigate, and would probably miss out on most sales if not for Frisky and his diligence.

Keep in mind that Frisky only posts the 3DS and Wii U deals for me anyway because I'm the only CAG who is too poor to own a Switch.

I just use my general dislike of Nintendo as a corporation and its holier-than-thou approach to gaming to hide my shame. 8-[
Also here only for the 3DS deals.

I had originally planned on getting a Wii U this round besides a PS4, but never caught a sale on a new one and then it died an early death. And I have already bowed out of the Microsoft ecosystem after the 360. Just don't have the time / energy to pay attention to multiple marketplaces / consoles going forward considering I already have an s*ton of unplayed games.

I am contemplating not moving forward with Sony either, but with the rumored BC for PS4 (including VR) on the PS5, I'll reconsider (would probably just prefer an improved PS Now service at this point).

But back to 3DS, this of course is no surprise: https://kotaku.com/well-that-about-wraps-it-up-for-3ds-1834341535

I wouldn't say that a Wii U is worth it at this point unless you're able to find one for really cheap. The fact that the damn thing only has a max of 32 gb of onboard memory means that you almost have to buy an external hard drive if you're going to bother buying one. Nintendo really dropped the ball on that one. The system should have sold with at least a 320 gb internal drive. That said, the downloads are relatively cheap for it when they go on sale, so I'm just stocking up on them for no apparent reason at this point other than that they'll be gone someday.

On the other hand, the 3DS is home to lots of AAA games and some smaller hidden gems that you can't find anywhere else, so I will continue to check in hoping to find 3DS sales whenever they pop up. I didn't play mine for over a year, and now I find myself playing Super Smash Bros on 3DS Monday through Friday during lunch breaks. I don't really care about new releases since I'm just scratching the surface on the games that I already own (looks at a stack of at least 30 factory sealed 3DS games).

Or if you plan to hack it, as it's really nice once you open it up to it's full potential that was never realized. But yeah, at this point, most games worth having, have come to the NS, so there are only a few games that are tried and true exclusives at this point.

Have Fatal Frame, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, or Xenoblade X been ported yet? Because right now I want those more than anything native to the Switch.

And don't forget Wonderful 101, and to my knowledge, none of these have happened yet and are in fact part of the few exclusives left to the Wii U. If those games are high on your list of must own, then a Wii U could be a good buy. A good rule of thumb for buying any system is the one of having at least 5 games you must have, and so long as you have 5, you should be happy with said purchase.

Having played more of SteamWorld Quest Hand of Gilgamesh I'm putting up my score to 8.5/10. The story is the weakest part, but the characters are nice and the challenge is real if you decide to do it on the legendary difficulty. I don't think many reviewers did, as they blazed through the game. I'm likely about 50% done at about 10 and a half hours or so with 100% treasures found so far. This game is extremely challenging for bosses (maybe not as much in normal mode) and can be tough in normal fights too. It requires some luck (card draw) as well as having a game plan for your team. Synergy helps the most I think. One boss I probably lost about 10-15 times. It was hard as heck but when I finished it I was like wow I'm ready for more levels and cards. Fun as heck and it's not the usual RPG. I'd recommend getting it for sure.

It’s easy to be disappointed in Eshop sales, but I recommend that you just do what I do. Every year I tell myself that Nintendo will only have one good Eshop sale this year. So far I have yet to be disappointed.

I'm really tempted to get Starlink, but it seems like the expensive digital version is the only one that they are supporting from now on. I heard something about having to register your ships every week on the physical version, which sounds like a hassle. Do you like the game so far Frisky?
