If you ride the bus or something 1-2 hours a day, it'd be a great idea. If you're playing at home on the TV and you already have another console (Xbone/PS4/PC), then probably don't bother.

Even if you have other consoles and game mainly at home, the switch is still excellent for gaming while your other family members want to take over the tv.

The switch is a must own device for my needs as someone with little spare time for gaming at home.

I've spent majority of time playing between flights, during lunch at work, and surprisingly long cardio sessions on the treadmill.

It's unlike any other portable system due to the functionality of the detachable joycons.  I love the thing.

Honestly the Switch is the best pick up and play system in a long while. You can pick it up from the dock and start playing right away. I am pretty much buying my indie games on the Switch, as they will get played there. The controller parts are a bit weird, but you get used to them. Overall I love the thing a lot. Also Nintendo first party titles are pretty great as are Nintendo exclusive games. This isn't like the WiiU era. People actually are buying the Switch, so games keep coming out for it.

Without the pro controller it's a pain to play docked. As a portable it's the best thing since sliced bread.

I've heard that the handheld screen isn't that great looking. Is that just online resolution nerd bullshit or does it have some merit? I think I would rather play on the handheld screen even when I have the TV free.
I’m not a resolution junkie, I’m a video game player. I’ve yet to find a game I didn’t want to continue playing due to the resolution in handheld mode. Could some games look better on my PS4? Absolutely. Could I play those games on my PS4 while at work or anywhere else away from my house? Absolutely not.

Got my Bloodstained code. First and only game I've backed, so I guess that worked out. However, I have heard that the Switch version has had some performance issues...

It's fine honestly. I've never been playing a game on it and thought it looked bad or needed to be better for me to enjoy it. And the games I get for my Switch are not games that I would get for my Xbox or PS anyway.

the switch is great. i mostly play handheld so i invested in two accessories 1) flip grip - for vertical gaming such as old school arcade (donkey kong) and pinball fx3 and 2) satisfye pro grip - this addresses the ergonomics of lengthy handheld play...comfortable like a real controller

#1 was $12 and #2 ultra slim case and grip was $27 with promo

i highly recommend the switch and these grips

I think I’ll buy Super Mario Maker 2 for the coins then trade in back within 48 hours for the $60 then rebuy it back preowned in 2 weeks for $45 at Gamestop again.

Unless you are using $60 in reward certs, or live somewhere with no sales tax, you are taking a loss on sales tax. Might as well for the copies everyone else trades in in 48 hours. Odds are, they won't have gotten the coins either.

Picked up a few games in the Devolver sale from a few weeks ago and over the weekend I managed to beat Gris and Red Strings Club. I highly recommend them both. Both games have a great sense of atmosphere and although they approach their narratives in completely different ways, the stories were engrossing. It was also refreshing to finish two great games in one weekend without actually engaging in any combat, though that’s about to change since the other two games I bought were Downwell and Ape Out...

Yes i have trade credit and don’t get charged tax on purchases here.

In NYC there’s a 15 day hold on trade ins.

I also bought a bunch of those games but I can't peel myself away from Slay the Spire. I am obsessed.

Slay the Spire works really well for sure. I bought it too even after putting in many hours on the PC. I still have Gris to play and The Messenger. I did beat Katana Zero which was fun enough but didn't care for the story really. Still fun though but a bit overrated I think. It does set up for a sequel.

That Ape is just defending itself! And guns fired are by the cruel humans. And as for Downwell, that little fellow can't help that bullets shoot out of their feet when they jump!

Where did you get your Flip Grip? I have been waiting for them to come back in stock from the creators website.
I would love to pick one up!!

Fangamer was offering them awhile back, but I'm not sure if they still are.
They were sold out for a long time but now they're taking preorders that will ship mid August.

https://www.fangamer.com/products/flip-grip

(hopefully by then some of those dang pinball fx tables will go on sale!)

Yikes. Looks like Bloodstained on Switch is running poorly. Very disappointing. Guess I'll be cancelling that Amazon pre-order.

Has anyone played bloodstained? Is it as bad as everyone says?
Yeah, all you really need to do is watch some vid comparisons and you'll see the issues. If I had to guess, I would say the NS version took the place of the Vita one early on, and as such, it was regulated to the "C" team, instead of the "A" team that worked on the PS4/ONE/PC versions. Most of the issues mostly seem to do with graphics and performance, which the developer has stated will get patches, but who can say how well they will work.

When a game can't be developed at an equal level at the same time as other systems, games shouldn't be offered this way. The reality is that now the NS game is going to suffer in overall numbers, and will be claimed as inferior, simply as a way to release it at the same time, why bother? I know some will still pay full retail, but who would do that when a superior version can be had at the same price? Once they backed out of the Vita version, I threw up the middle finger and got my funds back. Like most handheld versions, they often decide early on more money can be made on consoles, but many NS options often sell best over the console options, especially when good ports are offered.

So again, this is another group who claims to know their audience, but have no clue! If they did, this version would have been delayed months, but then of course no one would care, and sells would be less either way, but now you have the bad rep of releasing garbage, when the other versions are clearly not. The better gamble would have been to offer the best version possible, instead of killing any goodwill earned by the console and PC versions by releasing a subpar portable game.

[Snipped rant]
It could be just that it's a small team and they thought the game was ready. Then after release found a major bug and rushed to patch it not realizing that the impact on NS would be different. And since the retail copies were already out it was too late to stop it from releasing bugged. Not everything is about screwing their customers...

Well, this game was originally due like 2 years ago, and was delayed several times, so it was delayed due to issues previously, with the excuse of delays for quality control. Which indeed seemed to serve the other versions rather well, but not the NS version, so why was it OK to delay all versions for not meeting their own standards of excellence, but the NS didn't have such requirements? I've gotten every update since this started, and have read every issue and excuse given thus far.

People can choose to believe what they want, and the same goes for purchases, but if the game is years late already because you say you want to deliver the best game possible, but then you get a game that's not? So where they lying then, or now? This game doesn't have a major game breaking bug, the issues it has is the same ones earlier versions suffered from before being improved. The NS version appears to be at a state the other versions where at awhile ago, and why those versions received complaints from previews.

The reality here is they did less than their best for the NS version, and they should have delayed it longer to fix, or not released it at all. But if anyone wants to support something like this feel free, as that just shows developers a subpar effort is to be welcomed, and the next time it will only be worse.

Incidentally, I’ve been playing Bloodstained on PC and it is awesome! I was actually in the middle of a SotN playthrough when I got it (I had no idea it was just released—I thought it came out years ago) so my initial impressions weren’t great compared to the masterpiece that is SotN. It starts a bit slow and I didn’t care for the overall aesthetic, but now that I’ve completed about 25% of the map I am hooked. Once you start to level up and work on customizing your character, it is a blast to play and explore. Lots of different weapon and power combinations that really change the feel of the game. And while I don’t love the somewhat sterile and kitschy look of the game, it has started to grow on me, especially as its quirkiness becomes more apparent. Great game and I’m starting to think it might earn a spot among the all-time Metroid-Vanias.

As a fan of the Vita & PSTV myself, and I know you love the Vita, I find it quite ironic you'd blast the Switch getting a game that's lower quality than other versions when the VITA is full of games that are better on other platforms. Should they never bothered to put games on the Vita/PSTV that were also getting PS4 versions? That's what you are suggesting.

To be fairly outraged... Bloodstained shipped broken on ALL systems and still has issues including a force restart bug on PS4 & X1. Granted the Switch version got the short end of the stick right out of the gate, but only the PC version seemed somewhat ready for launch. As is, I had already cancelled my preorder for the Switch version a while back. Not because I thought it would ship broken or was bothered by a lower resolution, but just because I'm kind of not as interested in the Metroidvania genre as I am interested in the Metroid & Castlevania franchises.

Developed at an equal level means in regards to the effort being put forth, and the final results presented. Of course a port on an handheld is always going to be slightly less than it's console counter part, and I have no issue with that, and I'll assume no one does really. The issue here is a game that should be almost identical is not, not due to hardware limitations, but a poor effort. I owned several hundred Vita games, and almost any game that had a console version, was a solid port with no real difference in reviews. The only differences is what you often see on handhelds, and that lesser graphics, sound, etc that are limits imposed by the system, and not the developer.

My Nvidia Shield portable is a lesser device to the NS in regards to horsepower, and I have many games on that device that have stellar graphics and performance(the NS is a beefier Shield). The NS version here got what often happens to handheld ports, and that's it was handed off to a side team, and they didn't have the time or skills to make an equal game to the PC/consoles. Some things are to be expected in these situations, and some things or not, the issues here all fall squarely on the "some things or not" side of the table. The issues here aren't from hardware, but from software, and that's the problem.

I was holding out hope that Konami would have a small sale on Castlevania Anniversary Collection to match the Steam sale and also due to the Bloodstained buzz, but that didn't happen at Noon, so I guess I'll grit my teeth and buy it at full price.

Wasn't Teraria $20 at launch on everything else? That Switch tax is crazy sometimes.

Nice, more Sega Ages stuff for my wishlist. Will probably get Virtua Racing sooner rather than later.

My Muse Dash stream is live (link). It's a rhythm game featuring Japanese Pop music and lots of anime.
