I don't recommend buying these Argentina codes from another person.

Since these codes are issued via mail rather than the eshop, Nintendo could easily nullify your game license and refund the transaction.

They nullified most licenses for codes issued via Club Nintendo exploit back then, which left hundreds of people that bought them on ebay with nothing.

Since outlets are reporting this, it's likely to happen.

So if you want to try your luck, do it with your own cards.

I don’t see them doing this, it’s all on their own website on how to change region. Argentina’s low prices appear to be part of a sale and due to Argentina’s inflation going on right now. Some of these same games have been on sale elsewhere for similar prices, Mexico for example.

It's funny, I had said that I would pay $40 for the games together, but then I saw the individual prices, and almost balked, but $24 for all 3 is good enough, day one for me

Looks like the average is 18 hours for the campaign.
18.5 hours
18 hours I'd say is with skipping a lot of side quests and not exploring much. Personally I did every thing I could on my first play through and ended around 27 hours. The game keeps track of everything very thoroughly and by the end I had done almost all the side quests but missed like half the treasure chests actually, a lot of them are well hidden.

Game has a ton of replayability though. It has the usual action game stuff of not being able to do the highest difficulty on your first play through and the game grading you based on performance. But it also straight up just has a bunch of post-game content as well, after the story you unlock a new chapter which has a bunch of challenging combat side quests for you to take on.

What ugly ports.

Looks like it’s happening after all.
I was optimistic we'd get this... glad it's happening. The asia version getting english I think made this a no brainer. Digital only is a deal breaker for me with the physical Asia release existing... so I'm going to stick with it for now. If we get a physical version, I may change and preorder that.

What ugly ports.
The old sprites are better, but this isn't ugly.

I've been a DQ fan since the days of Dragon Warrior on NES... I can deal with some enemy graphics changing. Having the games widescreen is already a plus for playing these in modern times.

No, it's ugly compared to the old games. Square Enix doesn't give a damn about their legacy, which is evidenced by how half of their attempts to port their classics to new platforms have significant issues with the art, music, features, and sometimes all of the above that shows how little they care about those games beyond being able to make a quick buck off of nostalgia rather than doing them the justice they deserve. I have DQ on my phone and it looks a lot better than the screenshots on the Switch version, which is still probably not that great. We should be getting versions of these games on par with the Sega Ages or Capcom Legacy Collection series, not these cheap ports.

This is what really baffles me. In Japan, these are by all means prestige titles, way more than the stuff M2 or Digital Eclipse usually get to work with (or even their own Final Fantasy, those often get better treatment), yet this is somehow good enough for a reissue.

(in case you haven’t seen it somewhere, these are ports built off of 2009 cell phone versions of each game, which reportedly had to make compromises to fit the format, like no monster animations in DQ3)

Frisky is correct, these are cheap reimagined versions. and cheaper to produce than original sprites.

but, maybe Square-Enix lost the original source codes for these games and the only way to play the originals is using emulation, maybe it would be better than they could include the NES versions in the nintendo app than these new ones

You may be right; someone at Square Enix mentioned that very issue when they were asked about rereleasing their older games. And considering the old enix library of games seem to be vastly under represented in rereleases and remasters (stuff like Actraiser, Illusion of Gaia, and the original pre-square releases of Dragon quest come to mind), it's possible they just don't have them anymore. And considering no one other than Sega has shown a willingness to work with emulation folks to preserve their old games, I can't imagine Square would go that route.

Hey friends, if anyone here is looking for a cheap copy of Link's Awakening and is willing to wait, I'll have an extra copy of the UK version I'm looking to get rid of. If nobody wants it, I'll pop it up on ebay or w/e

Claimed!

I'm finding it really hard to stick to my guns about not stacking a backlog of digital titles, the sales for games that I've wanted are great. But I have to tell myself that between Dragon Quest XI and Link's Awakening I don't much of anything else.

Sonic Racing seems like a good pick up any play game though. I should go back and watch the GiantBomb quick look on that.

Those 3D Sega games at $2.99 each are a great deal.  If you are even remotely a fan of Sega I would pick them all up.  I'm guessing they are only going on sale for the Genesis Mini launch, and they don't go on sale often so get them at these prices while you can!

Don’t cry for eshop Argentina
Eshop Argentina isn't the one potentially getting damaged here. It's the gamers of Argentina who could potentially no longer afford these games if the prices are raised and the developers who are loosing out on funds.

I wouldn't go as far as to call it piracy, but its outside of the bounds of my moral doings.

I was optimistic we'd get this... glad it's happening. The asia version getting english I think made this a no brainer. Digital only is a deal breaker for me with the physical Asia release existing... so I'm going to stick with it for now. If we get a physical version, I may change and preorder that.

Frisky is correct, these are cheap reimagined versions. and cheaper to produce than original sprites.

but, maybe Square-Enix lost the original source codes for these games and the only way to play the originals is using emulation, maybe it would be better than they could include the NES versions in the nintendo app than these new ones
They may very well be cheap, it isn't that the art is ugly, its that it clashes with the backgrounds etc.

That art is Toriyama key art, slightly touched up, just looking at the Art book and it is that art for sure. They probably thought they were doing something cool by taking the originals and cleaning them up and making them look 'good' for a high res game

Looking through it again, its really the PC sprite that gets me, not only does it not look right against the backgrounds it feels like they didn't get them right in the second game, the first game is okay, and they look fine in the third game.

Still gonna buy em, still gonna play em, and my kids will love them and not give a damn, everyone is happy!

Anyone get a weird charge from PPRO.COM on their bank account the same day they made the Nintendo/Argentina purchase? Just happened to notice it tonight. It's for almost the same exact amount as the Nintendo purchase ($0.10 difference).

My “Nintendo” credit card charges from the Argentina orders got replaced by those a couple of days ago. The amounts were slightly different as well.

"Replaced", meaning the "Nintendo" charge disappeared? Right now, both have taken money from my account.

PPRO LATAM does list Nintendo as a client on their Linkedin page.

First DQ game for me was DQ Heroes. Outside some weird event in FFXIV that had Slimes.. I had never even heard of the series.

So when I see the Switch/Mobile version vs this... I'll go Switch. Widescreen and the graphics do not bother me.

I assume you used debit. From my international CC, the Nintendo pending charge is gone, and the PPRO replaced it.

thats basically all i've used for almost 20 years.. explain.
I keep a zero balance on my CC's and use cash or debit for everything. If I have to pay it off over time.. i don't need it.
There’s just generally another security layer present when using a credit card. tbh, I usually use my CC and just pay it off right away.

You can still use credit card and pay it off fully at the end of the month without paying interest. Most credit card have rewards too. You don't want to use debit because there is no protection. With credit card you have fraud protection.

If your card number gets stolen it's a lot easier for a bank to credit back credit. When it's your debit card actual cash is being taken and then you could have little cash in your account while they sort out the fraud. You can just use a credit card then immediately pay the balance with your bank account and keep a zero balance still.

In addition to the above points, if you have bills coming out of your checking account and someone cleans out it by stealing your #, you are going to be hit with returned check fees from the institutions that have your checks bounce.

With CCs, fraudulent charges are relatively easy to bounce back from, and don't leave you broke, atm/debit less.

As a Toriyama fan, thank you for clearing up the art change. That makes a lot of sense and adds something special to these ports I wasn't even thinking about. I'm buying this for my collection and for a more convenient way to play through all three games.

Any recommendations for a good travel case? I already have this one:

I would like to get a small one that will just hold the Switch. Should I just get the smaller RDS one or is there a recommended one?

I don't like the switch cases that have the plastic game holders that go beneath the system as they have a potential to scratch the back of the system. But if that doesn't bother you that case is solid.

I think that one actually got redesigned and has a layer between the game cases and the system now. I have a launch one that does not. That one should be good!

it could be a long debate...

but just remember Club Nintendo points seller on ebay...

remember club nintendo physical prizes getting sold for big amounts of money....

then we can start thinking about promotions abuse.

and why My nintendo does give physical prices only in japan FOR PLATINUM POINTS!

I mean, I haven't paid a cent in credit card interest in like the last decade either, and gotten back thousands in rewards.

I use that second smaller RDS one you show. I removed the game holders since they don't stay in well and might scratch the back of the system. But a felt sticker on those cases would prevent scratches. The pouch alone is big enough for some games or to hold a usbc charging cable (which I have one to use with my iphone charger). So there's less to travel with.

I love that case. The Zelda one looks nice but the zipper tag thing is shiny and it looks like a small purse. I much prefer the more subdued basic looking version with the red tag on the zipper. The case is sturdy and the handle makes it super easy to carry around as if it's tech.

Well I see your point but I keep all my money in savings for one, and have an auto stop for authorization on anything over $200 and with multiple charges as well. My direct deposit goes to savings not my checking acct, I just auto transfer funds to checking. I don’t have bills outside the house payment (autopay from savings anyway) so I don’t need that much money easily accessible. Really the most I could have spent is $200 before all the protections kick in and deny purchases. Not too worried about it.

I do use the CC’s for large purchases, and just transfer the money to pay off the card the same day (normally) paid my side by side off the next day.

I just found that if you have all your money with easy access.. you tend to spend it on every little thing.
Rewards require me to spend money to get the points.
I do use the amazon card on amazon instead of the debit card, but that’s the only place really.

If you have an Amazon card, why not just make your bill payments with that and pay it off immediately? The 1% cash back is just like a 1% discount on everything you buy (even 2% for gas and groceries).

I put everything on a credit card now - it's missing out on free money with the cash back if I don't. You can still be responsible and not spend on anything you normally wouldn't.

Exactly. Ive used my credit card for everything for 10 years or so. Pay it in full each month. Get to keep points and cashbacks as a bonus.

That's a great way to keep things in check...though you are missing out on getting paid back when you do spend money if you aren't stacking credit card cash back and/or incentives . I'm a fan of your mindset, but I don't like leaving money on the table.

Also, just to give an idea of ones I use/like

Amazon Visa - 5% Amazon.com, 2% Drugstores, and Mex/Arg Eshop (no transaction fees)

Discover - 5% Cashback calendar (right now paypal/restaurants)

Target Red Card 5% - Target 5%

Amex Blue Preferred (fee) - 6% Grocery, 6% Streaming Subcriptions, and 3% Gas/Transit

(or Everyday w/o fee and smaller %)

Playstation Visa 10x PSN, 3X Mobile and Fast Food

Chase Freedom 1.5% is great for everything else

If you have a membership, Costco Visa is also an option - 4% Gas, 3% Restaurant/Travel, 2% Costco

Assuming you have good credit, always wait to open a card until they are offering incentives and/or 0% financing for a 1+years

Temptation, the main reason.

Was in huge debt 20 years ago (had to move for job, house payment for 7 months waiting for house to sell and rent along with *just* bought a new car I was barely be able to afford as it was.. took me many years to get out of debt. Sold the house and made $1,300.00... wasn’t even enough to pay half of one CC.

I get the rewards part, and honestly you guys are probably right I should use the amazon card more for the little stuff.

I’d recommend swapping the Chase Freedom to Citibank Double Cash. 2% on everything, and you stop letting Chase get merchant fees.
