I’d recommend swapping the Chase Freedom to Citibank Double Cash. 2% on everything, and you stop letting Chase get merchant fees.
Thank, I will revisit looking at that card once my refinance has completed. If I recall correctly, I previously chose the Chase Freedom because of a) cash incentive to get the card (mostly this tbh) and b) my concern that my wife (pays the bills) would accidentally apply the cashback to the statement and negate some of the rewards.

I currently use the Chase Freedom card but I've looked at the Citibank card before. Is it really that much better than Chase (aside from the .5% of course).

Well, a card is a card; if you aren’t carrying a balance, doing balance transfers, or foreign transactions (importers would need to check rates) then it doesn’t really matter. And yeah, if you do statement credit, you kinda lose out a bit on rewards, but that would apply to any card.

There’s also the capital one quicksilver for 1.5% on everything at purchase, instead of the 1% at buy and 1% on pay from Citi. The one Samuel Jackson was promoting.

I dropped chase after all the financial crisis a decade ago, but it’s kinda like gas; it doesn’t really matter who you buy from, they still find ways to profit.

Citibank is terrible and their customer support is worse. When my credit card got compromised they treated me like they had never heard of such a thing ever happening. Had to call them about 6 times to get them to finally remove all 3 fraudulent charges (after they cancelled them on my old card then still transferred them as active charges to my new replacement card). Each time they claimed I hadn't mentioned the other charges before (which was 100% false, almost challenged them to pull call recordings I was getting so irritated). Oh and I had to call them because their secure messaging site was down for at least a week or two (I could send support requests in but couldn't see the response - something I learned after submitting the request).

Debit card number got stolen and my bank alled me to alert me of strange activity immediately, cancelled the charges (never even saw them on my account) and sent me a new card in a call that didn't last 30 minutes.

Thanks for the info about Citi. Went with my gut on Chase and have been pretty happy. My card was recently compromised somehow as well and I was on the phone with them for about maybe 5 minutes to resolve it. I'd say that's probably worth missing out on .5% rewards.

Citi screwed up payments for me (years ago) and refused to correct it. I was still living with my parents and they credited a payment from me to my parents account.
We deal with citi at work, I’d rather use someone else for personal.

This thread has taken a lot of weird turns over the years, but this is really up there.

Next time my partner complains about me telling her which credit card to use for the correct bonus category, I'm showing her page 196 of the Nintendo eShop deals page.

I tried using my international credit card in Argentina eShop but with no luck. Is the trick from previous pages still work?

I think the next topic should be how every CAG has their settings. Cause I’m on page 236. Am I doing CAG wrong?

Just a word of advice... don't use your bank debit cards on ANYTHING online.
thats basically all i've used for almost 20 years.. explain.
I keep a zero balance on my CC's and use cash or debit for everything. If I have to pay it off over time.. i don't need it.
In addition to the above points, if you have bills coming out of your checking account and someone cleans out it by stealing your #, you are going to be hit with returned check fees from the institutions that have your checks bounce.

With CCs, fraudulent charges are relatively easy to bounce back from, and don't leave you broke, atm/debit less.
If you have something happen to with your debit card, you CAN contact your bank and put in a "dispute".
You essentially tell them there are charges on your account (whatever your debit card is attached to) that you did not make and you are disputing them. At that point they freeze anything coming from that card, put a hold on the charges and back out the overdrafts (if any).
They may ask you to come in to fill out some paperwork, and it always has to be the branch you opened the account at which sucks if you have moved, but they are usually good about working with you.
They will then investigate by getting with the places that the purchases were made.
It is usually kinda easy, because it is almost always a different state from where you live, and everyone has some kind of receipt of some kind during the time-frame the charges took place. And that is ONLY if the bank or police ask for it. Generally they are pretty good, but oddly enough that is why I ALWAYS get receipts from when I pump gas. It has come in handy a couple of other times too, but those are completely different stories.
You will be able to get any cash you need right then, give you a new card and hopefully the bill-pays you have coming out are attached to your account and not your card number. If they are on your card number, you can call them and explain or simply have it go to the new card or change it to your bank account.
The investigation usually takes much less than a week and when they are satisfied that it is actual theft, they will remove the freeze on the disputed money and redeposit anything and back out any charges.
They will continue to work with the place the purchases were made and the police in that area to prosecute for theft, identity theft, bank fraud, and if they have made a purchase from an internet place that is in a different state, that could actually be Federal Wire Fraud as well. there are an abundance of charges depending on what and how they purchased things.

AAAAnyway, it was a little long winded, but I just wanted to let you know...
Pain in the ASS!!!??? = Yes
Scary???? = Yes
But you do have options and it is not the end of the world.
I used to work at a bank and have had to do this for customers, and it has happened to me, as well as helping my friends out when it has happened to them.
Anyway, Also...
Don't use your card on line anyway, regardless.
Use a 3rd party payer, like paypal, apple pay, Samsung pay, ect..., or your bank can usually set you up with one time use card numbers that are designed for online shopping, for this very reason.

For CC's, I used to be deep into CC debt. I gave up buying stuff for quite a while to dig out of that. Having a CC and being responsible isn't hard if you only use it knowing you have the cash to immediately pay it off. Adding on top of existing debt you can't finish paying off before the payment is due is a sign you need to stop buying crap and get your finances in order. I find it harder to budget using CC's for anything more than specific purchases I can immediately pay off. I use cash for most stuff purchased in person. That makes budgeting easier because if I don't have the cash I don't buy it. It also makes balancing my account easy as it's one single withdraw a week instead of a ton of tiny transactions.

Here's the difference in your scenario and mine. I bought a game over on Videogamesplus.ca. My CC info got sniped along the way because of their lack of website security. With my BoA CC, I got alerts pouring in that there were charges (something I set up to alert me on charges of $1 or more). This was at the authorization stage. Moments later BoA was texting me that they locked my card and to verify the charges because they looked fraudulent. I verified with a reply text they were fraudulent. They shipped me a new card and I was back in business a few days later.

What I don't suggest is use the same card for incidental purchases like this and bills because like your Debit card scenario, everything you have setup with automatic payments from that account now has to be updated with the new card info. I personally don't do automatic payments on anything because I want to control who is taking money at what time... but it would still suck having to update stored payment information because something small caused me to get a new account number.

Page 118 for me.

I personally don't do automatic payments on anything because I want to control who is taking money at what time... but it would still suck having to update stored payment information because something small caused me to get a new account number.
Yea, the scenario I was referring to was for a Debit Card. While CCs are easier to deal with, you still have options if issues like this happen with your Debit Cards.

And YES 0-Balance CCs are definitely how they should be KEPT. - Respect -

It looks like the Puzzle Quest HD remaster is coming to the switch tomorrow. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good stylus to use, assuming the game supports touchscreen?

Blah blah blah slickdeals back and forth. Let’s go back to Nintendo stuff. All this nonsense made me totally miss Ni No Kunis release.

I got my hands on a Switch Lite yesterday at my local Best Buy and that thing is really nice.

I have to wait until November to get mine since I preordered the Pokemon version but it will be worth it.

It feels great in hand and plays great. The model had a bunch of demos on it. I played Mega Man 11.

I preordered the Pokémon one too, but idk if I can wait. Might grab a switch lite this week and just sell it when the pokemon one comes out

Man, I missed out on a lot by not checking here for a couple days.

Re: Fraud on Debit Cards.  I've had fraudulent charges on two checking accounts, with two different banks (one via a debit skimmer when I stopped at a drive-thru, one through PayPal via Twitch).  Both banks had the money back in my account within an hour of the call.  My liability for those charges, by law, is $0.

Banks are out to make money, yes.  That doesn't mean you aren't protected against fraudulent charges or the fees that come from them - even with a debit card number.

https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0213-lost-or-stolen-credit-atm-and-debit-cards

If the physical card was never lost or stolen and you report the fraud within 60 days of the statement where it shows, under federal law you are liable for exactly $0.  If the physical card was lost/stolen, there are limits on your liability.  Either way, you are not liable for any overdraft/returned check fees caused by fraudulent charges.

Any people out there that are big fans of this game that can tell me why they enjoy it? I am not trying to be funny. Just want to know what the hook to the game is. Is it considered a casual game where its kinda like a hidden object game but you actually move the character around? Or am I missing something?

Preordered Puzzle Quest love the game, looking forward to playing it again. Hopefully it has touch controls
Preorder as well. I never played it but always wanted to so I’m looking forward to it.

The eShop page says it supports touch controls.

Also, for anyone that didn’t know, the new Switch update added the option to change the touch screen sensitivity to either Normal or Stylus.

Same as well. I love and played the crap out of Marvel Puzzle Quest.
Ye ive played it have it on the switch as well but doesnt quite do it for me

Haha yep i pretty much play marvel puzzle quest everyday. Been playing the game for years now.
I used to be heavy into MPQ back in the day - until I couldn't reliably be on for the end of events anymore (which was the only way to guarantee getting the good heroes).

That being said, I'll be getting the Switch version of PQ, since the original 1 & 2 were awesome in their own right.

It's kind of action-adventure... kinda puzzley... with a "fun-spooky" vibe (think Disney's Haunted Mansion ride). The hook is finding the ghosts, figuring out how to make them vulnerable, then vacuuming them up.

Celeste is dope. If it weren't for the Argentinean pricing I would have skipped this game completly. Reminds me of N+. Playing with the joy con's sucks though. Ill probably also pick this up on PS4 down the road.

I've owned the original Puzzle Quest on about six different platforms, and it was my love for the original that got me interested in MPQ (which, while fun, is a shadow of the original).

So when PQ1 for Switch got announced, I knew it was a day one buy for me. What I DIDN'T know was that it'd be available to buy, download, and play basically right away when the calendar flipped to 9/19. I figured it'd be something where the button would get pushed later in the day and it'd be available in the afternoon.

Woo.

First PQ is better. Second one had too much world traversal. The original is all about the puzzling.
Ye that is sounding familiar.

Haha yep woke up and started playing it already

If you've ever played any Japanese survival horror game from the PS1/PS2 era Luigi's Mansion is basically a casual version of that type of game. Casual in the sense that resource management is not as extreme (plenty of opportunities to heal or refill your elemental ammo in the original game) but it still leans heavily into the exploration and puzzle solving those kind of games had.

Explore and solve puzzles, catch ghosts, fight a boss, repeat.

PQ1 had great balance between story and content. PQ2 just felt more like a third party wannabe. PQ Galactrix I really wanted to like, but it just didn't feel right either. Probably because it felt too complicated with hex grids instead of the normal squares.

I forgot all about Galactrix, I actually enjoyed that more well more so than PQ2

I’d actually chalk this up (so far) to different publishers having their own pricing strategies (Annapurna and Finji, both first-timers to Argentina as far as I recall). I mean, it’s not like every indie game was fantastically cheap before, and even Wild Hearts comes up closer to $10 than our $13.

For me, the true test would be the next Devolver or Chucklefish game to come along.

I see the Taito and Mega Drive/Genesis-style modules for the Korg Gadget have a bit of a discount.

https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/korg-gadget-for-nintendo-switch/

Unfortunately nothing on the core software, but this seems like a rare opportunity nonetheless.
It's a fun couple of gadgets. The value is so much better on iOS with all the additional instruments and a lower price of entry. It also takes more advantage of the iOS platform as a music production tool. But I'm still hoping the Switch version goes on sale at some point. The "multiplayer" is unique. It would be fun for an evening distraction with the family.

I'm looking at all these sales, including the under 2 dollar ones, but I'm not sure which ones are actually good and which are shovelware. I've heard some devs are dropping their price to stop their game from getting buried in the shovelware.

Anything you guys recommend? I got about 300 coins that expire this week and I need to spend them before they expire and 3 bucks on the shop.

Since Virtua Racing is no longer on sale, I would recommend SEGA AGES Phantasy Star for $5.99
