Nintendo made an easy and low-cost system to develop for. Simple as that.
 
Doom and Skyrim are $30. I personally love these games they run well on the switch. I took off the motion controls on Skyrim it felt weird to me. I bet with some practice it wouldn't feel too weird. Skyrim still has some bugs. But they aren't game breaking.

Also Mario Odyssey is $42 I really had fun with this game! I beat the base game but feel like going back and doing the challenges.it has a cool assist mode for younger players.

Has anybody tried NO THING?

It looks so bizarre, so basic, so frustrating, yet it is calling me.

I don't want to get it just for being $0.19 and then to never play it.

 
Alright, I've got one week to scrounge up ~$20 for an eShop card for Cadence.  Couch cushions unite!

I want to assume that Cadence is one of those games that maxes out at a 30% discount like many Nintendo titles, but then Mario + Rabbids regularly goes for pretty cheap, so I dunno.

EDIT:

Those Johnny Turbo games are crazy cheap, they're usually only $4.  I'm tempted to give one or two a look at only $2 apiece.

Same here. Luckily, there's a mode that lets you move more freely without punishing you for not staying in sync, sort of a casual mode. That's the mode I played through first and then every subsequent playthrough (which have been many) I played through normally.

 
Also I don't see a lot of talk for it - but Gris is really a fantastic game. For the sale price I can't recommend it enough.

Q-Yo is a great humorous Shmup game. So if you liked Parodius, stuff like that, great choice. I bought it ages ago and don't regret it.

Also, can put my word to Night Slashers as a great steal with the sale price. Really great old school beatemup that's bizarre and great fun.

Last, I might actually buy Edith Finch for Switch. I played through it on Xbone with Game Pass but it was such an amazing experience, I feel like they deserve my money.

So it’s Bravely Default, Bravely Second, and now Bravely Default 2? Why do I get the feeling they’re going the kingdom hearts route with these titles. Bravely Re: Default 2 3/4 drop distance chain of dreams is next right?
 
This is purely speculation based on absolutely nothing - but it feels like Reggie's relationship with the Game Awards is why Nintendo always had such a large presence every year. Which would make sense why this year was so... underwhelming.

Just a thought. That NM3 trailer is absolute nonsense though, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

 
Bravely Second had the characters of Bravely Default, and Bravely Second doesn't, I don't think. So I think they're treating it like 1, 1.5, and 2. No idea though.

 
There's a similar thing with Xenoblade's naming convention. XC, XCX, and XC2. Although with that, XC looks to be reserved for the fantasy installments, while XCX is for the sc-fi installment.

Looking back, given the brand new cast by the looks of it, Bravely Default II might be more deserving of the name "Bravely Second" than the actual Bravely Second, if that makes sense. Since Bravely Second was a continuation via its cast, it would've deserved the name "Bravely Default II". Hindsight is weird. (What kind of continuation will Bravely Default II be, I think? Looks like a similar road trip of the Vestal and her group visiting and restoring/awakening/??? the crystals. So it'll continue that aspect.)

It's definitely a hard game; took me a while to beat it. But I liked the music and bizarre narration enough to see it through to the end. And despite its simplicity, the developers managed to make the levels feel distinct from each other. I'd say to go for it.

 
Played GRIS some time ago; finished it in two sittings. Got hooked from the first moment.

Disclaimer: You need to like this type of games (the "artistic"/journey ones), as I wanted to play it together with my wife, but she got bored right away, so I undocked it, plugged the headphones, and got carried away by its graphics, sounds and GORGEOUS music.

 
I just finished Pikuniku and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes quirky little sidescrolling adventure puzzle platforming games. This one is really well done. I got it on sale, but I wouldn't have even been mad if I paid the full $12.99.

 
I'll toss out the usual reminder that buying the codes at other retailers should get you the full coin value.  I know at least Cadence of Hyrule has the same sale price at a lot of places.

Has Yoshi's Crafted World (digital) been on sale recently? Just wondering if I missed it or if there's still hope of a sale before the year is out, because we all know that if it doesn't go on sale between now and xmas it won't be on sale again until I'm old enough to wear diapers.

Amazon had the codes for $40 for a bit towards the end of November, but it seems it’s never been on sale besides that.
 
has the marvel ultimate alliance DLC ever gone on sale? I really liked the base game, but just rather pay less for the DLC.

Updated just fine for me. Granted, I have the digital version. I believe it was 1893 blocks, or somewhere in that range. Icon color on the home menu changed from purple to yellow as well.
 
Just finished Sparklite, and wow it's so damn fun. I feel like it's Minish Cap mixed with Steamworld Dig. I was originally put off because I really don't enjoy rouge likes/rogue lites/roadlights/etc but was glad I gave it shot, it's really nothing like those types of games.

I'm finishing the year with games I wasn't interested in but wanna give a shot, next up is Moonlighter. Fingers crossed!

I was thinking something similar. It's possible that Nintendo of Japan felt a little put out by the game awards giving Reggie such prominence at the show. NOA probably didn't care, and Keighley might consider him a staple for the awards. I'm sure Keighley and Reggie are professional friends. No one at Nintendo was going to tell Reggie not to do the show, but maybe NOJ held some quiet reservations. Therefore Nintendo held off on any big announcements (Smash Characters, anything Metroid, Bayonetta). Possibly out of spite?

Or maybe Nintendo is just keeping it's powder dry for surprise announcements next year. What was it, like six months before they let us know about Link's Awakening, and three months for Cadence of Hyrule. I don't know.

Edit for Topic: What Samurai Showdown is a good starting point? I'm thinking 2. Also, I have fond memories of a lot of those Data East Johnny Turbo arcade ports. Any suggestions for purchase?

Moonlighter's pretty cool once you get into a groove with getting materials to upgrade your equipment or selling.

Personally, I have the most nostalgia for the original, so as much as I’m inclined to agree that it’s a great place to start... I’d say Samurai Shodown II is the one to get, if you’re only going to get one. Most critics agree it’s a high-point of the series; it’s often seen as a refined version of the original: it’s VERY similar, with the same basic fighting system, but better balance, more characters, etc. (only one original character is omitted from the roster in II, which is a shame, but the new characters more than make of for his loss).

I mean, get both if you can, they’re both great! But know that II is widely considered to be “the same but better,” if that makes sense.

I was joking, I’d follow dave auto’s advice. Don’t get me wrong, I actually enjoy these starting entries in old fighting series precisely because they’re unpolished and just trying to figure out their identities, but they’re generally not good, at least not compared to later entries in the series that have had a chance to either work out the mechanics or abandon the jankiest gimmicks.

My brother and I played the shit out of SSIII when we were younger...bastard pissed me the hell off because he would always pick the mode that gave you infinite supers (though you couldn’t block to “balance” it out) and spammed Haohmaru’s over and over while I desperately blocked and searched for the split second I could attempt to get a hit in. Good times...
 
I'm doing a stream tonight at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT to play the six new additions to the NES & SNES apps on the Switch.
