I am in the same boat as you, but I will wait. Remember that Ori 2 is currently in prodction, so if you are not in a rush, wait for its release, as I am sure Ori 1 will get lower than 13 usd by that time.

I was going to mention that too, but it sounds like the dev has no plans for Switch at this time. If it ever happens, will probably happens well into 2020 or later.

I didn't like the previous game from the same creator the Legend of legacy because it was a bit too random and had almost no story. I absolutely LOVED Alliance alive because it pretty much fixed both of those problems. Yes their is still some randomization but you have a lot more control over it now.

Want to learn a spear attack? Equip and use one and you will very quickly. Plus you can use skill point to further customize your characters to your liking. Honestly I loved it so much on my 3ds that I'm considering getting the hd version despite it basically having nothing new added

To finally put my Switch into the dock and see what some of these games look like on the TV.

If I have any sort of resolution it is to keep up with Ring Fit for all of 2020. That game has been something of a revelation for me. But one of my goals is the opposite of yours—I want to try and play a bit more undocked. I’d say maybe 5% of my Switch gaming is undocked but I feel like I could get through some of my backlog much quicker—especially 2D and indie games—if I’d use it more as a portable.

Yep, I got 4 of those at full normal price.  I am just absolutely sick of waiting for months upon months for some of this stuff to go on sale, only for it to be a measly $3-$4 off.  Or in the case of Donkey Kong, I've been waiting for a full year and a half with no sales whatsoever.

I just blew a sizable portion of my remaining Christmas cash on this purchase, but I have no regrets.  Now I can finally stop tracking the price of this stuff week to week, because honestly, the OCD of it all was really starting to drive me nuts, especially after Black Friday/Cyber Monday and holiday sales.  I just want to stop thinking about sales for a while and just enjoy the (massive amount of) games I have.

Sorry for the rant, you guys are awesome and Frisky performs a real service for the community.  This has apparently been building for a while, bought to my attention when I realized that I've wasted the last 3-4 evenings planning out sale purchases rather than actually playing anything.  But now, I'm finally just about out of disposable game income, and I can't obsess over sales when I have no money to spend.

Played through Pan-Pan ($0.25) tonight. Took me between 2 and 3 hours to fully finish the game. Overall it was a relaxing enjoyable mini adventure. The puzzles took a little thinking to figure out as there is no talking in the game. It did a few things I hadn’t seen in this kind of puzzle adventure. Overall for what I paid (25 gold coins) I’m glad I gave the game a chance.

The game is short, and the core gameplay is very simple puzzles and very simple stealth. It's charming and cute, and has the feel of being like a children's storybook about a naughty goose, but after buying it and beating it in one sitting immediately following, I haven't gone back to it. There's just not enough to it. Messing with people gets old fast because you can only mess around in the specific preset ways they allow for.

I’ve bitten the bullet and bought games at full price that I’ve been waiting for them to go on sale. It’s good to take advantage of a sale but at the same time, waiting for it to drop can be stressful. I only picked up Bastion on Switch and Kotor 2 on Xbox this Christmas. I’m tempted to get Ori and Torchlight 2 but I’m tired of buying games on sale just to sit in my backlog. Im also sick of spending money after the holidays.

It's a shorter video due to tech issues, but it should give a good look at what the game has to offer. It's a solid puzzle game that can get very gnarly when it throws multiple obstacles at you at once as you try to figure out the tricks to get around them to clear out a cross of tiles.

Starter games for anyone who's broke after Christmas like I am.  A lot of these games are published by Forever Entertainment and were on iOS and Android before being ported to the Switch, but some of them never had controller support before they ended up on the Switch. 

I cannot attest to the quality of all these games.  But don't go in expecting Breath of the Wild or Mario Odyssey quality.

Decided to try out NoReload Heroes for $0.99. My impressions:

Pros

-Variety of weapons

-Dodge/teleport has no cooldown, so you can spam it (and you will need to once the enemies get serious)

-Decent graphics for $1

-Choose between randomly offered upgrades like health, movement speed, etc as you level up

-Enemies can drop weapon damage boosts that stack for increased effect, balanced by you lose one each time you're hit.

Cons

-No progression. Once you die, you start from floor 1 again and have earned nothing from the previous run.

-Game doesn't really start until floor 4. Floors 1-3 are like a tutorial you cannot skip.

-XP orbs drop once you beat all enemies in a room, and then you have to run around to pick them all up. The game should just auto absorb all the xp into you instead of having you waste time running around an empty room.

-Once things get hectic, it is easy to get snagged on a small piece of environment while dodging, leading to at least one or two enemy hits.

Not the worst $1 I've spent, and the game is probably more enjoyable (and doable) with couch co-op friends, but there are likely better $1 pickups available right now.

That’s a great review write up. I need to get better at watching let’s play vids on YouTube on some of these indie titles before buying. Like you I bit on one for $0.99 (bury me my love) and whether the story is great or not your just reading text messages for the entire game. I made it about 30 minutes before finally saying forget it!

Bury Me, My Love was free last week for people who owned some of the publisher's other titles. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to give it a go before I delete it.

I’m about to break down and pay full price for Fire Emblem and the three houses. I’ve been waiting for ages for it to go $10 off at Best Buy like it has at every other retailer.

I’m in the same boat, I’m hoping Nintendo has another New Year’s sale next week and Three Houses is in there, but I would have nearly given in a couple of times if not for my backlog.

It was so bad that I had to import the Japanese version of the collection last year. The Japanese “X: Grandmaster Challenge” version of Super Turbo is a lot more fair, and doesn’t make you want to throw your controller across the room.

I don’t see a cheap version of the Japanese release. Wasn’t the us versions patched to include the Japanese roms?

Played Blazing Chrome on Xbox Game Pass.  Was extremely difficult but on some level made it satisfying to complete. 

Decided to bite on Masters of Anima once I looked into it.  I always played as a Necromancer/Mage in Diablo/Torchlight type games because i love raising an army to fight for me. Since that seems to be the entire premise of this game it was right up my alley. 

Still can't get myself to pull the trigger on Legend of Kay Anniversary.  I'm convinced I'll play it once and never touch it again so I am mildly tempted to seek out a physical copy so I am able to re-sell it after but those seem to go for like $20-$30 used as the norm.

This is CAG - but you gotta value your time too. I’m about to bite the bullet on full priced goose game because I want to play it before I listen to Giant Bombs GOTY discussion! Ain’t no shame in $4-5 here or there especially when you make up for it with cheap eshop credit during the year too!

Awesome thank you! I’m buying Outer Wilds when I’m done with the Modern Warfare campaign since they gave it so much love. I just remember last year I hadnt finished red dead and hadn’t even started spider man or god of war and felt like I couldn’t listen to any of their GOTY discussion so I was trying to play the hits in December so I could listen without spoilers.

Fire Emblem is fantastic btw - enjoy that one.

That brought back some nostalgia for me. I loved that game when it came out. Those games with Kyle Katarn were great.

It holds up pretty well for the era of PC gaming and Star Wars that it came out in.

Outcast and Academy looked real good back then and still have their charm. They got a bigger audience since they were part of the games that came out on consoles too. I have great memories of the older Lucasart Star Wars games but sincerely doubt they hold up well. Dark Forces: Jedi Knight was incredible but those live action cutscenes were cringeworthy.

I don't know about anyone else, but the prices on the Switch eShop and the gold coins that I earned killed it for me this holiday season.  I still haven't opened any of my AAA physical games because I built up a huge digital library so quickly on this system within about a month's time.

And I finally used the dock with the Power A Wireless Controller that I bought on Black Friday.  No rumble, but this thing is boss!
