Anyone bother buying that Ninjala story mode and can attest to whether it's worth it?
If you like Ninjala, buy it. If you don't like Ninjala, don't buy it. It comes with items that you can only get by beating the story mode. Much like the items you unlock beating Splatoon's story mode. Unlike Splatoon's story mode, it's really only four or five short missions that teach you how to play the game.

Has anyone sent in their JC recently for the free drift repair/replacement, and if so, when and how long from start to finish did it take? My son has been having issues with both pairs for awhile now and before I could send them in, covid-19 happened. It wasn't a huge deal before, as he got by with what he had, but now both pairs are pretty bad, so I just opened a ticket for the first pair and was wonder what I should expect in regards to the turnaround time?
Last I heard, they stopped offering repairs due to Covid 19. They're also still being sued over JoyCon drift, so people that signed up for the class action lawsuits last year may make some money, if Nintendo loses.

Has anyone here played Damascus Gear Operation Osaka? It's an isometric mech battle arena/dungeon crawler from Arc System Works. Seems to have pretty mixed to decent reviews. MSRP is $19.99, but it's on sale for $2.40 until July 8th.

https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/damascus-gear-operation-osaka-switch/#:~:text=The%20goal%20of%20%22Damascus%20Gear,Eyn(this%20world%27s%20currency).

It's $2.39 on PlayStation Network as well. They're having a big sale on Arc System Works games there too.
I just stumbled across this deal -- not sure how I missed it. For $2.40, it seems reasonably interesting...

Just finished BoxBoy/BoxGirl (which was great), looking for some more fun couch co-op games in the same vein. Any suggestions appreciated. :)

I highly recommend Gurumin for 3DS it's like the definitive edition of that game. It's very much like a Zelda game.
Thanks, bud. Unless they're Atlus RPGs, it's rare that decent games go on sale on the 3DS these days. And Gurumin is definitely an enjoyable one if you like that style of game. Bought.

I sent mine in last Thursday, and the status hasn't changed yet on the site. If you're wanting to get them done you should start the repair order now. You get put on a waiting list because they have a backlog of repairs.

Yeah, I got on the waiting list already, I was just wondering after getting on the list, how long did it take for them to get back to you, and then what? They pay shipping both ways correct, so do they send a printable label, and did that come after your first request, or was there some back and forth?

If you have shipped yours in, and haven't gotten them back, of course you can't speak to the return time, but you can say how long after opening a request, did it take to actually send them back? If it took a month, or more, I can see about ordering the analog sticks and changing them out myself, as it's an easy fix. I'm just trying to see how the long the wait might be, so I can look at other alternatives, but if it didn't take longer than 1-2 weeks to send them in, I can't see it taking longer than 1-2 weeks to get them back, as I'm sure they are trying to keep the turn around as quick as possible.

I’ll third this sentiment! Have always been curious about Gurumin after reading a HG101 writeup years ago. Sat down to check it out with my daughter this morning, and wow: I had no idea I had this much nostalgia for this particular era of gaming, but MAN does this game take me back to the late 90s/early 2000s. “Zelda-lite” is probably the best overall descriptor, but the level design and manic Japanese energy that pervades this game feels like Ape Escape to me, with some Mega Man Legends vibes mixed in there too.

It’s from Falcom, the “Ys” people, so it has a solid action-JRPG pedigree behind it. Camera control is of the vintage, unfortunately (it WAS originally released in 2006), but we didn’t encounter anything so difficult that the camera was a real problem. If any of this nonsense strikes your fancy, $3.59 is a great price.

Can you go into any detail on why? I was looking into it, and while there’s not a lot of information, it kinda sounds like, at least graphically, it’s the worst version. What makes Gurumin 3D stand out?

I don't get why they require sending in the switch unit itself in which seems unnecessary to me given that it's the crappy controllers that are the issue not the system itself. Also given that nintendo's repair service is hot :censored: garbage and over priced even free is too much for me to consider sending it in to them. When I had them repair my 2ds they left dust underneath the screen and left a small light issue for it where it looks like a lightbulb is lit up in there. Very low quality for the 80$ they charged me and I honestly could have just bought a brand new system from best buy or anywhere at the time for that price without having to wait.

Nintendo has never required you to send in they system for controller repair. I just got my repair done and it took least than two weeks for turn around time.

Not to be a smart ass, but the 3D effect makes it stand out. If you’re worried about graphics obviously the PC > PSP/Vita > 3DS. I think people are raving about it because it’s a quirky game that has fun combat and for less than $4 you could do worse. I just double dipped on it because I had briefly played it on my vita before the memory card crapped out. I haven’t played it yet but I am curious to see how well the 3D is done.

I think the 3D is done really well, and it also patches some bugs that were in the PC and PSP versions that never got fixed. It also has a little extra content added in, that was not found in the previous versions, if I remember correctly. I believe that it added some costumes and another playable character to the game.

I can't find any evidence to back it up. But when I tried to send them in for repair they wanted the entire system at the time. But this was a while ago. Or I just misread the claim steps at the time.

Yeah, since NoA started their official "drift" repair or replace program(In the US), I have not seen anyone state they requested their system, but early on I wouldn't put it past them to have made the request. Depending on when "N" decided what the specific issue was for the drifting, they may have thought hardware was a part of the problem, which in turn would mean they would need ones system as well.

Now this may seem unlikely, but the fact that "N" released the Lite, years after the fact, with the same janky analog sticks, tells me maybe not? The fact that they have offered a revised system(the Lite), with the same issues, tells me they don't care what the problem is, or have no clue what the problem is, either way, it's not a good look. Especially when the president apologies for the issues, while the EU has never acknowledged it, or offered free repairs to fans for an obvious issue.

I’m playing on a New 2DS XL, and even without the 3D, the graphics are fine. All you’re losing from other versions is resolution, as the original 2006 PC game was hard-capped at 30 fps. What makes it stand out for me, as I mentioned in an earlier post, is that it’s a particularly well-made example of a JP 3D platformer of that era. It’s by Falcom, and localized by Mastiff, so the degree of Japanese “quirk” is straight outta the turn of the century, if you’re at all nostalgic for that period. Because of the JRPG elements, it’s easy to compare it Zelda, and while it does feels like it sits somewhere in between that series and Mario in terms of platforming, the structure of the levels reminds me more of Ape Escape than anything else: find a switch in one room that opens a path elsewhere; long corridors that hide streaming in new areas, etc.

So for me, there’s an amount of nostalgia in play, as it really takes me back to the early Dreamcast/PS2 era, when devs were still experimenting with 3D adventure platformers. But this one just happens to be pretty free of the technical jank and bland art direction you saw in more forgettable Western takes. Think of it as a long-lost Dreamcast JP import you never got to try, that holds up a lot better than something like “Vexx” or “Darkened Skye” ;)

EDIT: I should also point out that, like Ape Escape, neither the combat nor the environmental puzzle-solving is as challenging as something like a proper Zelda. So for me and my 8yr old, right now, it’s kind of a perfect, breezy-summertime-adventure, a chance to dip our toes into something Zelda-like without having to think too hard.

EDIT 2: I see now that it looks like you were just asking about why this version is the “definitive” version, not for praise for the game itself. Sorry for the word vomit :)

That's why I've started putting games I'm interested in into my wish list, then I just look through that for sale prices. The deals section is too flooded with junk to look through for me.
Good call, though I wish they would implement a notification service. Then again if they applied that pro-consumer logic, they wouldn't be able to bait people into looking at another sale.

I haven't heard of any issues with the switch lite but that definitely sucks for if and when it does happen but its also not that old yet. Supposedly no drift on new joy cons for the 2nd version of the switch but given that its not that old yet either there's still time for that as well.

For now I am just using a breath of the wild joy con I got on clearance at target last year since I don't see a reason to pick any up until they get the kinks worked out.

Yeah they do send me an email when an item in my wish list is on sale, but it seems kind of sporadic and doesn't show me every item in my wish list that is on sale.

In case you didn't know, GameStop has some good digital and physical sales. Games like Splatoon 2, Yoshi's crafted world, Mario Maker 2, NSMBUD, Mario Tennis Aces are $39.99 and more are up to 50% off. New, used and digital. Make sure you use the CAG16 promo code too.

My Switch Lite has had zero drift issues after a full month of heavy use. Knock on wood. I'm super soft with the analog sticks compared to my PS4 and Xbox One controllers. Because, honestly it feels like the Switch Lite is always about to snap in half when I hold it.

Wouldnt really call $40 good prices for those games. Those should be $40 normally.

Really disappointed I don't hear about Astral Chain more. I've gotten back into it over the weekend since I'm away and man, what a great game so far. I hate anime and anime artstyles but have absolutely loved this game. This is what should be talked about over Mario and Yoshi games LOL. A true system seller.

Drawngeon isn't showing on sale for me.

Edit: Odd, when I go to buy it, it's only 99 cents instead of the $2.99. Clue was the 5 gold coins.

Some games will automatically become cheaper if you have bought other specific games in the past. Last week a game that was listed as 39 cents here was only showing as 10 cents for me because I owned some previous titles by the same developer.

Doesn't look like I have any of their other titles either though.

Astral Chain is outstanding. My favorite Switch game. Suck it really doesn't get a lot of love.

Suppose a person wanted to maximize silver/game coins to get 1000 coins for Zelda Picross on 3DS --does anyone know what mobile game rewards are available and the amounts?

EDIT: sorry for this asinine post. I forgot I could just click earn on the my Nintendo page for the complete list of rewards. Damn I feel stupid.

Actually just picked up Astral Chain last week since Player Essence on YouTube is always recommending it. Hoping to play it before Paper Mario comes out...*looks at unfinished Pokemon Sword, Breath of the Wild, and Mario Odyssey*

Re: controller drift. I just got my JoyCons back today. They did not ask for my entire system. The turnaround was a day shy of two weeks, but you have to factor in the holiday.

It sold really well for a Platinum title (over a million units), it's already one of their best selling games. I am simply happy about that alone as a massive fan of PG. I imagine a sequel is a no brainer honestly, though they're pretty busy with other stuff right now.

First Platinum title I've liked. I've hated all their other ones. I really enjoyed Astral Chain so I hope it gets a sequel.

What do they do about imported joy cons? They don't just give you a generic one, right?
I would guess it comes down to if the color of the set was released in the states or not? If you send in a color were they don't have the exact color to replace, they may opt to fix those, so the exact color can be returned. It seems like most of the time, they just throw some new ones in a box, and return them to you, but others have said they have gotten back their exact JC, so who knows?

When you open the ticket, they have a drop down menu for your color of JC, so as long as the set you have is in that drop down menu, you should be good.

Yeah, and with Gamestop probably on its way out, and publishers increasingly pushing digital over physical, it makes sense that the cost of collecting physical media is going up. It's already the case that those who keep buying physical media in movies are now the minority, willing to pay premiums to have copies as part of their libraries. Video games are going the same route. LRG and others like them are the Shout Factory and Kino Lorber equivalents, and are likely to become larger and larger players in a shrinking video game publishing world.

All that is to say is that retail footprints for video games will get smaller, much like how Targets have largely phased out or reduced bluray sections to a single isle. It will mean fewer physical copies in the wild, which will lead to higher or more stable prices (at least compared to before). In short, expect fewer and fewer discounts on physical media going forward.
I don't deny digital is where the market is trending and I've more or less moved to digital only for my massive movie collection (I do however still collection MCU steelbooks to your point). That said, I disagree with physical being more expensive; digital is typically still so much more expensive than physical overall right now with people paying a premium for convenience of digital; I'd say 90% of my 1,800 titles and counting digital movie collection was via digital codes in physical releases because buying physical was half the price of buying digital (not even counting the fact I typically sell off my physical copy on ebay for roughly what I paid for it in the first place like 70% of the time or at a slight loss the other 30%). Though I do most of movie buying on black Friday every year so suppose that's a factor too.

Case and point though, most first party Switch titles have been $10 cheaper to buy physical at some point (new, not even counting pre-owned) than they've ever been available digitally. Those that don't have that trend tend to be equal (meaning digital has never gone lower than physical but they've both been the same price). I know Nintendo games are something of an exception but buying physical isn't paying a premium, it's often saving money.

Plus there's the whole deal with older consoles getting their stores shut down. DSi, gone. Wii, gone. Wii-U is already gone from some countries. Even PSP you have to jump through some hoops having a PS3 to even download your purchases. The only safe purchase for the long haul is physical. That said, not every game do I think is worth owning a physical copy. But given the option I'll go physical simply because it gives me some path to get some of my money back if it ends up not being a game I want to keep forever and replay.

The iOS appstore has also been a bit of a lesson over time. WIth older games not getting supported in newer versions of iOS and then as you update you lose the ability to play some of your purchases. Plus some games get converted to a freemium model with iAP unlocks which burns all the early adopters that bought a game. So, I've converted over my thoughts on digital purchases as more of an extended rental. I barely ever "buy" any iOS games anymore because of this.

Yeah, wasn't even thinking about discontinued games/old marketplaces being taken down. I kind of expect to see the marketplace for non-backwards compatible xbox 360 games see their end soon. I'm also expecting the $10 increase in next gen games doesn't just apply to physical, you'll see it in digital too. Which will only further entrench my physical > digital mindset because the "opportunity to sell the game after" just becomes $10 more relevant.

Digital wise there's also the issues of games getting removed from the store.  It's not common but it happens.

And to add to this systems like the wii didn't have accounts in place  and that ment you could never get your games back if you switched to a new system or your original broke.

Physical does have it's own big issue now with most games requiring patches and updates these days.  Something like ff15 or fire emblem 3 houses would play different years down the road without being able to apply the patches and updates. And digital copies for physical game sets make owning some of them worthless.

Games not being playable in their physical release is a huge pet peeve of mine.  I don't mind patches that improve a game, but the game needs to be playable as is when it releases to get my attention.  Burnout Paradise on switch was a good example.  It's fully playable from the cart with no downloads needed.

Had an iPod Touch early on and the way devs could update games to make them unplayable on your current device with no heads up was amazingly shitty, which is why I never got an iPhone.

Rumor is that a full Direct will be announced on the 17th (Paper Mario release date) and will take place on the 20th. I’m really hoping the remakes for Mario Galaxy and Sunshine are true!
