I liked Botw... but the weapon breaking thing got to me.
Get a great weapon, and was afraid to use it cause it would break when I needed it. If they made weapons like the master sword where it just had to be put away for a while, that would have been better.
I had most of my inventory just for weapons to swap to when they broke. Found myself using only the easy obtainable ones instead of the best weapons. Hell let me repair the weapons and I’d be happier.

Good game, but not in my top 10 for sure. And yes it was my first switch game. Only completed like half the game due to the breaking items stuff, tried to farm the hearts to get the master sword but ended up just putting it aside.

So I don't get all the complaining about weapon breaking in BotW.  Early on it kind of forces you to try different weapons out to learn what you like.  Fine.  I liked the experimenting.  By the time it actually matters I literally can't pick up all the weapons I like (even with my expanded inventory) because the weapons last long enough.  There are so many weapons in the world if you just look a little bit.

EDIT: That's not to say you're weird for disliking the mechanic, I just don't really get the people that don't.

Still. You've tried it. It's not for you, so I'm not even sure what the point of my post is...

I understand the game isn't for everyone, of course. I have concluded that after trying many of them, I really cannot get into JRPGs. I'm sure people would find this blasphemous, but that's the thing about opinions they're totally subjective.
There was actually way more things I didn't like, the two I mentioned just happen to be Public Enemy 1 & 2(as both were game breaking for me), but I've mentioned the other issues in past post, so no need to revisit. So while I couldn't add BotW to my top 10, it's a pretty good chance I could have made a top 10 things I didn't like list. LOL I also found Mario Odyssey a HUGE let down, but I did play that one until the end, but I never bothered to finish it, as it wasn't that fun to me. I may give it another go once it reaches the $20 greatest hits line up, but no way in hell I pay full price for that game.

Yeah, I've never been a HUGE fan of JRPG's, but that probably has more to do with the time it takes to play them, over anything I actually find wrong. I didn't really have the time to play many when I was younger, and now I really don't have the time. But I have played many over the years I have enjoyed, and several I didn't. As for my most blasphemous moment, I couldn't stand Final Fantasy 7, and I'm sure many would take issue with that, which is their problem(not mine). And I haven't returned to a FF game since, as that was how much of a bad taste it left in my mouth, while I find 4 & 6 some of gamings greatest efforts.

So we all have are likes and dislikes, it's just the way things are, as my son lives for Minecraft, and I can't play it for more than 10 minutes. He's always trying to point out the finer points of the game, and I'm like, "I don't like this shit, live with it". LOL

60+ hour work weeks, 1-4 hours a week I can actually sit down and “play” something. If I have to spend a lot of the time replacing items so I can “play” the game... not worth the time.

I can see the mechanic being for a harder difficulty, but for a standard play.. not for me.

I think it's just the different ways we approach the game, maybe? I like BotW because I like exploring every nook and cranny of the world and you find a ton of weapons doing that. I don't really view it as time replacing items, though.

Yeah the weapon thing was a bit scary at first... but the progression system pretty fast to where you end up throwing out weaker weapons because you find better stuff that last longer and even with expanded inventory it's never enough to keep everything. Thankfully cool looking stuff that maybe you want to save or display can be off loaded at the house once you get that far.

More love needs to be given to puzzle quest returns. It's so damn addictive.
Is there anything new to the Switch version to make it worth buying again?

edit: Store page says 5 new classes and a new expansion so yeah I'll probably get it next sale. I forgot about this. *added to wishlist so I don't again*

Nope. Same old Puzzle Quest. Good but if you played it before it's the same as old releases.
5 all-new classes!
All-new content expansion: Attack of the Golem Lord!

Is this stuff not actually all new as the store page says? I haven't played the game in ten years or so and don't remember the expansion names.

I also found Mario Odyssey a HUGE let down, but I did play that one until the end, but I never bothered to finish it, as it wasn't that fun to me.
Same. Game is too weird. Especially considering that 3D World on the WiiU was the most perfect Mario game ever made. Then we get hats and interactions with the real world? Ooookay....

Yep. My kid plays that garbage too. He plays the modes that are poor man's versions of real games and every day I wonder if it's the day we say F-it and I just start letting him play Overwatch.

There's new content. But it's not like it drastically changes the base game. I bought it near launch, beat it for like the third time, have no real complaints other than it lags more than any other version.

3D World was the best Mario game ever made, but I also highly enjoyed Odyssey. It's in my top 3 for Switch. Not every game in a franchise should be exactly the same as the others. Embrace the diversity of a familiar character in new settings with new abilities.

Agree on the Minecraft hot take, though. That game becomes too tedious and monotonous to play consistently. I volunteered for a coding tutoring program at a children's museum, and one kid completely ignored everything I said to play Minecraft. We built Raspberry Pis into tablets, and the kid still found Minecraft on the tablet and played it. I tried showing him how to edit Minecraft with Python, but he wasn't having it. Just spent the whole session breaking blocks. The sad part is that he had to sign up for the session.

I didn't enjoy 3D World as much as I thought I would.  I think it was the odd camera angles.  Other than Odyssey, my second favorite is Sunshine.  Loved that game.  Hopefully we get the collection of Mario 3D games on the Switch.  I'd happily replay Sunshine and get all the stars again.

I didn't care for 3D World, but I loved 3D Land on the 3DS, and it's probably the only other Mario game since Super Mario Bros on the NES that gave me cool discovery vibes(a kids wonder and awe). So while it's not my favorite 3D game, I don't think it qualifies, as it's kind of a hybrid that stands alone, as it's small levels like 2D Mario, but very much 3D in it's limited space. This was one of the last titles "N" has made that reminded me why I loved them to begin with. Sadly, these moments are far and in-between in recent times, but when it happens, it can't be beat.

The last 2D game I enjoyed was probably the DS game, and that's because it was the start of the "New" series which seems to get release on a regular basis with a new paint job. Still solid 2D games, but if you've played one, you've played them all, so the 2D games I mostly ignore, as I do MK. Yes, I don't like MK and the last best feature I enjoyed was the challenge stages of the DS game, and of course, it was great, so "N" got rid of it, as they love to fix what ain't broke.

As for my top 3 3D Mario games, I would probably say G2>G1>M64, so let me give a little insight. M64 was just amazing, as I imported the N64 at release and got all 120 Stars not being able to read the clues at the starts of the levels. Galaxy 1 was just M64 taken to the next logical step for me, and was also amazing in it's own right. As for Galaxy 2, this is just straight up "N" meat & potatoes right here, as they removed the fluff from G1 and just gave you straight up gaming. I have yet to finish that one with the max star count, as the difficulty is krazy(but in a good way), but for a life long Mario fan, it doesn't get much better than this. I guess on any given day, anyone of these three could take top spot, and for an honorable mention on the 2D front, Yoshi's Island SNES! That game was another game were "N" just fired on all cylinders and was a HUGE out of nowhere release at the time.

It’s an excellent successor to Paper Mario TTYD and has 40+ hours of gameplay. I bought it full price on Switch and Xbox...easy recommend at even $25.

On topic, I got Final Fantasy Explorers for 3DS, it's pretty fun. It plays like a Final Fantasy themed Monster Hunter game, with a simplified combat and item system, and the spells from Phantasy Star Online. The graphics are very simple for a 3DS game, it almost looks like it was originally developed for the DS. It has a character creation system, but outside of the equipment menu, you can't really get a good look at your character, because they are super tiny. Even on the larger screen of a 2DSXL. I can't even imagine how small it would be on my original 3DS. I have trouble reading the text as it is.

You’re blasting away clothing on 8 anime chicks. Sounds like a Nintendo straight from japan dick slapper to me. Saw it on sale and wondered if there was more substance to it. Just admit you bought it already.

Well, if dick slapping is what you want there aren't too many alternatives. I say go for it, I'm sure it has the substance you are looking for.

Got a notice that 3000th Duel dropped to its lowest price. Threw it on my wishlist some time ago, cause it looked pretty decent. Anyone here actually play it and recommend it at $8.99?

Can anyone recommend I Am Setsuna? I was disappointed when the Vita port didn't get localized and prefer physical on Switch, but paying an extra $30 to import it ($50 on most sites) feels like a lot for a game that wasn't universally beloved.

Save your money. It doesn't do anything better than the RPGs it is influenced by. The music is good, but story wise it's just run of the mill with shallow character depth.

I liked it enough when it came out that it was on the back end of my top twenty of the year for 2016. My memory sucks so here are my thoughts I wrote in another forum: There were times I absolutely hated this game. The save system sucks. By the end of things I probably lost close to 8 hours of progress due to save spots being hours away from each other. Some of the dungeons are hours long and if you die at the dungeon boss you start at the beginning again. It also requires tons of grinding. But it does alot of great things too. The artstyle is fantastic as is the music although it gets repetitive. The somber plot and characters are stronger then your average JRPG. I got some of the most enjoyment out of the late game content where a bunch of party member specific quests come up and finally I had powered up enough where the save system issue didn't affect me. If you're willing to overlook some issues Setsuna is a solid JRPG in the classic Square style.

Is waifu uncovered just a dick slapper or is there some depth there?
I think you may have just wanted to post about it not to feel guilty when picking it up. Game was developed by "One-Hand-Free Studios" after all...

"Rescue your possible WAIFU from the space alien invasion. Simple EASY TO PLAY strip ecchi women up action game! Destroy the deep infected clothes to save the girls from the fatal virus!"

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1197590/Waifu_Uncovered/

I tried to find a pic of Chii from Chobits pointing at Hideki's porn, and saying something embarassing like "This is Hideki's bate" but I was disappointed when it was fruitless

Can anyone recommend I Am Setsuna?
I replied to someone asking this in the steam thread recently. [customspoiler='Mostly recommended']
I am Setsuna is a very generic-feeling homage to Chrono Trigger. I think I bought in around $25 for the switch version and felt it was an interesting and overall decent experience. I'd recommend it mostly for people with CT nostalgia who are willing to be patient with a lower-budget product.

For me it is mostly memorable for some interesting artistic directions, such as a soundtrack consisting of 100% solo piano pieces. Sometimes this is great, other times it is.. not. [/customspoiler]

Pass. Game is boring and not fun. I actually found myself falling asleep while playing it.

I enjoyed it, but I like snow areas in games and that game has so much snow.

Thanks for all the responses, I'll hold off for now, given the number of games I own that I haven't finished (or even started). Some of those more archaic design choices around save games sounds like it would be frustrating.
