I know I'm a couple days late, but wanted to echo passing on it. Beautiful music, art style, but the story is bland and the game feels monotonous. Makes for a boring experience.

Does it have online play, if so, I would go with anything that ain't using the "N" online service, as you'll have a much better online experience elsewhere. If that's not a factor, get the version with the controller you like most for fighting games.

How is Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III? Worth picking up for the full $60? I played the demo and it seems like it has high production values, but also dragged a bit. Will this be hard to find on sale in a few months?

Physically? Very possibly. NISA has been doing tiny prints lately.

As for the game itself, it's the most recent installment of my favorite series currently being made. Dated graphics, bad animations, but the attention is given to other parts of the game (which are excellent). Although you will appreciate it most having played, at a minimum, Cold Steel 1-2 first. But not required. I'd speculate that the parts that you felt dragged would be more engaging with prior knowledge of the characters and the transitions that are being explained during those long intro cutscenes.

Also, for CSIII, it's very much like part 1 of a two-part game. Thankfully CSIV releases in NA this October.

On topic, what are some super cheap games out there that I should get? I really can't keep up with all these eShop games and releases. I've had some good experiences with games that only cost $0.05 so what are the newest gems?

honestly I liked botw, just disliked 1 aspect of it.

And I agree we need an “under $.50 game list” cause there is way too much crap to wade through.

Yep, I didn't like a game the majority did, so why would being in the minority change my own opinion in any way, shape or form? Am I supposed to like something just because everyone else does? I guess I've been living my life totally wrong actually stating my own opinion, and not following the crowd uh?

I guess I should buy the best selling music if I like it or not uh? Or maybe attracted to a women I don't like because everyone else is? Oh, but wait, maybe I should buy some food I'm allergic to, just because everyone else likes it, would that be better?

Rainsdowne Players is 7 cents atm and that is a charming, quirky game that's worth the price. Kind of a theatre sim with rpg elements. Nothing earth-shattering, but a ton of worse games sell for 500x times that price all the time.

A lot of these other games that you see discounted under $1 are mobile ports that should've been priced that much to begin with. I buy a lot of them & let's just say there's a reason they are practically free.

Every now & then you will see genuinely amazing indies priced around $1-3. Stuff like Cosmic Star Heroine, Saturday Morning RPG and Supergiant's entire catalog (Bastion, Transistor, Pyre). Buy those immediately lol. It almost breaks my heart seeing these lovingly-crafted rpgs with dozens of hours of content being priced as much as generic shovelware all the time.

I am currently playing BOTW for the first time. I hated the break weapons system and that I did not have enough slots to have them all. I was able to resolve this by acquiring the Master sword (which is unbreakable) and traded korok seeds to get lots of slots in the weapons inventory. So my doubts with the game went away fortunately and I am really enjoying it so far.

I don't think the point is that you should like it or change your opinion, but rather that you should recognize that even though it isn't for you it is widely beloved and likely belongs on a Top Ten games list.

For example, I fully recognize that if you were to make a popular opinion Top Ten list of games it would definitely include games that aren't really my cup of tea like GTA5 and my personal list would include things most people might not.

I hate the game and realize it is beloved. That's ok. I'm glad people love the game and I hope they keep making games that people enjoy.

I don't think anyone ever said it isn't beloved. We just said we don't get why and don't like it.

I mean I love Killzone and most people think it's an awful game. There are enough games to go around for everyone to love. The video game industry isn't zero sum. We can all win.

I stopped playing before getting the master sword.. I broke my last 3 weapons doing a shrine (I forget what they are called) I need to just go back and get the sword. I have a ton of the “amiibo” cards.. so I can get free stuff.

Yeah I don't love the breakage system. But on the positive side the game doesn't choke you on inventory of resources or any kind of over-encumbered mechanic. Having to scavenge around for things early on is part of the fun. Later on you can farm excellent weapons from any Major Test of Strength shrine. My biggest annoyance is having to leave so many chests unopened, like the reward weapons after clearing one of the four major areas.

I also didn't like the gyro puzzles. Though I'll admit I was pleasantly surprised you could turn it upside-down and skip the maze. (This was before anyone wrote about it, so it added to my experience.)

 
I loved BotW, but I understand the hate. I'm in a different boat though- I'm a lifelong Zelda fan who has been dumbfounded watching Majora's Mask & Wind Waker attain mythical status and both get called the best Zelda games. I hate those games so much- easily the worst in the series imo. The gimmicks in both (the time mechanic & sailing) are just there to pad the gameplay and cover up the fact that both are rushed, short games with half the content of a typical Zelda game.

Hot take: Skyward Sword is the best Zelda.

As for the game itself, it's the most recent installment of my favorite series currently being made. Dated graphics, bad animations, but the attention is given to other parts of the game (which are excellent). Although you will appreciate it most having played, at a minimum, Cold Steel 1-2 first. But not required. I'd speculate that the parts that you felt dragged would be more engaging with prior knowledge of the characters and the transitions that are being explained during those long intro cutscenes.

Also, for CSIII, it's very much like part 1 of a two-part game. Thankfully CSIV releases in NA this October.

There are complaints and great things about pretty much all of them. Personally I thought Skyward Sword was hot garbage, and will never go back and play it again. Motion controls were barely functional in the best of circumstances, items weren't all that interesting to use and it's biggest issue was similar to Phantom Hourglass in that it kept sending you back through the same content over and over to pad length. One dungeon is literally the back half of another dungeon.

I personally enjoyed BotW, the open world was way more flexible than anything seen before, and often you did things you figured would break the game but it just opened up even more. The weapon decay, which I understand the hate for some, to me was great because it forced you to constantly acquire stuff for survival and you couldn't just go get something and rely on that. The game was built upon scavenging and got significantly less interesting once you got the Hero Shield (that had way too much durability) and the Master Sword (which the energy that initially only worked in a dungeon, but the DLC made it pretty much infinite). Don't get attached to stuff, and always be on the lookout for supplies and items. Every time you open a chest or beat a bad guy they might drop something useful, it was almost a never ending series of risk and reward.

But .. not everyone wants that experience in a game. Some like a directed story, with a clear path. Some want open world, but with more direction and explicit story. Horizon: Zero Dawn came out the same week as BotW, and was open world as well but felt significantly more limited. You could climb mountains, but only at certain spots to keep you from going unintended places. It had crafting, but for very specific things. Story was very rigid once you went to a designated spot. It felt more narrative driven. In BotW, after getting out of the training area you could go kick Ganon's front door down if you wanted and were good enough, screw all the story.

Neither are for everyone, and even if you aren't a fan of BotW, it is easy to recognize that it offered unprecedented freedom in the game and is a high water mark in game design in a way GTA3 felt back on PS2 when it was new, and Mario 64 did even earlier. Majora's Mask and Wind Waker are heralded these days (they weren't then, at all) because they broke the Zelda mold. BotW threw the mold off a cliff and dive bombed it with a sledge hammer, and even a stellar game like Horizon: Zero Dawn just seemed so plain in comparison.

Nice. Despite owning it on ps4 i'm considering buying just to have a handheld option while waiting for CSIV. I also try to support falcom whenever i can.

I was looking at the amz listing earlier and noticed they're still advertising the preorder bonus. It's just cosmetic accessories but maybe they'll still email you the code after purchasing.

Best Zelda games are the Oracle games.

Breath of the Wild is dragged down by destructible weapons and clunky inventory system. I often avoided fights and exploring because thinking about how I'd have to waste time messing around with weapons afterwards just made it feel like it wasn't worth it.

Ninjala has a special event starting tonight at 7pm PDT where players will get triple the amount of experience for playing matches, making it way easier to unlock tiers in their Ninjala pass. Basically every fight for the next week or so will be the equivalent of normally playing three fights.

LOL, this is why there are different strokes, for different folks, as I can't stand Wind Waker either, and until BotW, it was my least favorite Zelda title. An amazing looking game, and in that regard, it's one of "N" best, but that's all I've got nice to say about that game. Now I couldn't stand the time mechanic of MM, but I also recognized, it was what made that game what it was, and my only issue is not liking to be rushed in games.

So the time mechanic is why I didn't like MM, but also the main reason why I thought it was the most creative Zelda title, was due to this feature. I didn't like Phantom Hour Glass for the same reason(being rushed to complete dungeons), but after coming to grips with it, I finished the game and enjoyed it overall. I've never returned to it for that reason, but it wasn't so bad once I just dived in. I may give MM the thumbs down when it's all said and done, as that is the only other Zelda I haven't finished behind BotW.

As for BotW, I gave that game more time than I should have and I had tons of slots, weapons and the like, but that didn't change things. I explored, walked, rode, mixed, made, bought and so on and so on, and I couldn't have cared less for most of it. It's amazing to me how little that game shared with any past Zelda title, but yet I'm supposed to like it as the best? That's probably for me why I dislike it the most, as it's nothing close to any past title I've played, and if you changed Link, Zelda and Ganaons names to Moe, Larry or Curly, and it wouldn't change anything in regards to this world for me(as nothing felt Zelda to me except the names). So I'm supposed to love a game were 90% of what I loved in past titles is no more, and I'm supposed to like what is now offered from "one" title, and forget it's history? Yeah, not happening!

While Skyward Sword isn't my favorite, and I can't stand motion controls, I did finish that game, and enjoyed the ride, but I've never revisited the world. The 2D Zelda games are my favorite, and I've played all of those more than once, with Links Awakening probably being my favorite in all the series.

 
Hey at least you can all agree on disagreeing with me. My favorite Zelda is Zelda 2. I find the main mechanics of the series unfun and dislike most of the games.

Majora's mask I agree with you on the time mechanic but they put some work into the hub town. Take the time mechanic out and it was my favorite. But I just can't stand the time mechanic.
