Majora's mask I agree with you on the time mechanic but they put some work into the hub town. Take the time mechanic out and it was my favorite. But I just can't stand the time mechanic.
This was how I felt originally, and why I never finished it, but I thought it was crazy creative, and the only reason I still haven't gone back is due to the time element(I enjoyed everything else). It was a love hate back then, no question, and all this talk of Zelda makes me think I may give it a go sooner, rather than later. Now my question is do I give the 3DS version a go, or the MM Redux of the N64 original?

Ninjala has a special event starting tonight at 7pm PDT where players will get triple the amount of experience for playing matches, making it way easier to unlock tiers in their Ninjala pass. Basically every fight for the next week or so will be the equivalent of normally playing three fights.
Oh man. I totally forgot this game even existed after trying it like twice.

This please. I realize and appreciate the diligence that it takes to organize all of that stuff, but the lists are almost unusable as a result.
The eshop ihas way too much on sale every week. It is ridiculous. I appreciate frisky going through the effort keeping an updated sale list every week. It must be a lot of work. I will skim through it on here to look for something that stands out.

One thing I do is search on the eshop and use the "lowest to highest" filter. It lists all the really cheap games that are pretty much crap, but some recent things on sale will bubble up to the top.

Hey at least you can all agree on disagreeing with me. My favorite Zelda is Zelda 2. I find the main mechanics of the series unfun and dislike most of the games.
Poor Adventure of Link. That was my first Zelda game, so I love it too. Wind Waker has hit my top slot though for the franchise.

But Zelda 2 gets a bad rap for crappy reasons. Namely "it doesn't feel like a Zelda game" or "it diverts too far from the franchise," and my favorite: "Link doesn't even get a boomerang--how can it be a Zelda game without a boomerang?" These are all nonsense complaints that criticize a game for not conforming to a formula that didn't yet exist at its creation.

My first Zelda was Link: The Faces of Evil. I liked it. Wand of Gamelon, too.

I was also like 8, and haven’t played it since, so I can’t give you any updated opinion on the subject.

A heads-up in case anyone happens to still be saving up their last-minute US/Canada/Mexico NSO Vouchers: they probably expire today, if they haven’t already.

Go use them, or if they expired in the last couple of days try to talk nicely to support, they might be able to help you out.

I remember getting it brand new as a kid, after playing LoZ as a kid. It blew me away and there wasn't any sense that it wasn't a real Zelda game. The box, golden cart, and Nintendo Power all told me this was Zelda 2.

And I agree we need an “under $.50 game list” cause there is way too much crap to wade through.
I'd just suggest using ctrl+f and searching for "$0." to highlight the cheaper stuff. The list already can't fit into two posts in the OP, so this will make it easier to highlight that stuff for you.

Update the above list suggestion with those “own this game, get this game free” from the same publisher deals they do also. (Combine the thread)
Sorry, but I'm not able to add that stuff because the eShop is awful to navigate. I'm being honest here that it already takes long enough to get the dates because the eShop and webstore don't mirror the info they have, which adds a lot of time since the lists are huge these days. The publisher-specific sales and free stuff are hard to see and find since I get the prices from the webstore, which doesn't show the special pricing unless I load up each game's page and the text about the promotion on the eShop doesn't show up on the webstore at all to explain what's going on. If you see games with ??? in place of the end date, that's because I own a game from that publisher and that cancels out the eShop page showing when the overall deal ending. If I already own the game that might be free, I can't see the price on the eShop, even with alternate accounts that don't own the game.

Just getting the list together takes so long because I can only look at so many pages before it resets my place on the overall list of deals, which can't be sorted alphabetically (Wii U's eShop is the only one that offers this). The eShop only loads about 30 games at a time so when I'm a couple hundred games into the list when that happens, I spend more time scrolling down slowly and have to hope it doesn't crash. That's why I make use of the ability to pull up the list of a publisher's games from the top of a game's page to knock out a bunch of games that usually have the same end date to them. That's why I use ctrl+f on the list I have here so I know what games to look for to try to get through it as efficiently as I can. All of that is why I don't list the special prices some publishers offer for owning certain games they sell. Sorry, but I'm not really looking to add more work to this.

When Zelda 2 was released, there was no franchise, as it was only the second game, and in that regard, it was "different", but that was also the newest game. Back then I really couldn't understand the hate either, as there was only one game before it, and back then most games changed things to a pretty big degree with part 2, to try and get new players in the fold. Zelda 2 had as much chance for greatness as part 1 did, it just didn't meet the higher calling I guess.

After a series exist for a good period, that's when a "standard" emerges, and when consumers may have a greater issue with big or even small changes(as they are used to the norm). After LttP, they pretty much have all followed the same base mechanics until the most recent offering, and even when a game was different, it still felt the same(at least to me). I can't personally say that for the latest game, but I'm happy for those who can, as it was different, just not my kind of different.

A Zelda fact we can all agree on: Nintendo needs to port Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD to Switch already.
I'm personally hoping for "Seasons" & "Ages" to get the Links Awakening treatment, but that would require actual work on "N" part, so your request is far more likely. LOL

I'll take anything at this point. I'm holding out for a Nintendo Direct with some stealth drops but it seems time is running out for any real announcements. I can't help but wonder if Nintendo was able to/forced to push major releases to 2021 as the announcement window for anything new will likely close in the next couple of months.

But Deku Deals already has all of this sale info. Couldn't you just grab a list of what's on sale from there, put it in your own format, and then post it here? Why make it harder on yourself by manually searching for what's on sale?

Yeah I use deku more than any thread/page.
I was just suggesting a 2nd thread that we all can list the “good” games under a certain price point, cause it’s been asked a few times.

The buy this game, get this game part it gets posted from time to time here also, would be nice to just throw that in that 2nd thread to keep it all together.

But we've already played those games multiple times before. I'd rather see an HD/Master Quest version of Skyward Sword. Bet the controls would be much better on Switch.

There are so many Zelda games that have never come over from Japan. I wish that we could get a collection of those.

But the game would still be bad
I disagree. I really like Skyward Sword. Yes it suffers from some padding and the motion controls only work 85% of the time and the flying is pretty bare-bones and not a lot of people on each Island but it has some ingenious puzzles and Dungeons and one of the best stories in any Zelda game.

I'm all for this.

Zelda is easily my favorite game series but I'm honestly sick of people asking for Nintendo to just release the same old shit on every console (thought this could be said about anything Nintendo) We already got Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD in full 1080p glory, great visual upgrades from their original releases (especially TP). I'm all for giving Skyward Sword the HD treatment so I won't have to blurry ass Wii graphics. But after that, I would absolutely love it if Nintendo gave some of the classic games a Link's Awakening remake.

I enjoyed Zelda II way back when but I think it's aged the poorest. Exploration isn't fun with semi-random encounters, the save system is really unforgiving, and dungeons would benefit from a map. Save states fix some of it but it's hard to go back to.

Combat is still a lot of fun, though. More than anything, I wish Zelda II could get a WayForward-style remake with some beautiful graphics, an overhauled world map which doesn't feel like a chore, and a more fleshed out experience system. I'd buy it day one.

Zelda is easily my favorite game series but I'm honestly sick of people asking for Nintendo to just release the same old shit on every console (thought this could be said about anything Nintendo).
Yeah, honestly, this is how well "N" has trained their base, as I've never bought one of these up-stream releases, unless I never bought it the first time around. If these offerings were even $20 cheaper, they would probably be an easier pill to swallow, but as stated, so long as people keep buying lesser efforts, they will continue to make them.

I bought Links Awakening and I don't even have a Switch yet, as I wanted to show support for some actual "work" by making the game something worth the full retail price tag. Now this is my opinion of course, as many have complained of that games short playtime, and how that game should have been $40 at retail. It's all what your willing to accept I suppose(and what is of value to you), and for me, I'm not paying full price for a game that can be bought past gen for normally $20 and under(and often cheaper than that).

The time that I realized how differently my thoughts align from the standard Nintendo fan was the E3 in which so many people were pissed that Nintendo showed off an original IP instead of a Majora's Mask 3DS port at E3.  Sure, by all accounts Codename S.T.E.A.M. ended up being a mediocre game, but I would much rather see Nintendo try new things than port over old games (especially ones that were easily playable at the time).

Granted, Nintendo would probably be stupid not to get on this remaster trend given how much money they'll make off them based on a limited investment of time and resources - so I guess I don't blame them.

Don't get me started on the "kool-aid" crowd from trade shows, as that's a whole other level of Krazy! As the people there will waste an entire day standing in their booth for 10 minutes with whatever the big game is at that show. My last E3 was 2005, and it had gone to shit years before then, so by the time you saw what you saw, the normal folks were long gone. LOL

Some of my favorite "N" moments are from trade shows of the past, as the Star Fox reveal at Winter CES 1993 is probably my favorite. To this day, I can't play the OG SF without thinking about how cool the whole thing was at the time. I also got a video taped Caricature done with Mario Paint by an artist that same year, and cool stuff like that can no longer be done just due to the masses allowed in(and the poor selection process). Conkers reveal at E3 gets an honorable mention for sure, as getting free beer in a "N" booth is the stuff of legends, as getting a free beer from "N" is the stuff of legends, and something we'll probably never see again. That was the last probably the last "N" E3 before the crowds & the crazy got out of hand.

Yeah, I don't blame "N" for offering up these same limited HD efforts either, as they sell beyond well, with little to no effort, so why not? Like I said, they know their audience, and when they say jump.............it's not long before "how high?" is shouted in unison from the masses.

Man, I thought this was an eShop deals thread, not a debate on which Zelda games are the best or what risks Nintendo takes with their intelectual properties.

Can we get back to the sales please?

I do admit I’ve gotten freaked out a few times this week. Normally we only have this many posts in so little time when there’s some crazy price error.

Maybe this Zelda talk is a psyop by Target for the next time their system drops a bunch of codes to $1.

Bought Crash Team Racing: Nitro Refueled - Nitrous Oxide Edition for $30, about an hour before the Activison sale ended. Not a bad deal. I’ve been wanting to play this for over a year. A little worried about the whole micro transactions thing within the game, but we’ll see, I guess.

I disagree. I really like Skyward Sword. Yes it suffers from some padding and the motion controls only work 85% of the time and the flying is pretty bare-bones and not a lot of people on each Island but it has some ingenious puzzles and Dungeons and one of the best stories in any Zelda game.
I agree with most of your points here, but overall it just felt like such a slog to get through. If it was half as long or maybe 3/4 as long it would have been a much better game in my opinion.

Thinking back on it, this was probably my biggest gripe as well, and why I probably will never return to the title, but I did enjoy the ride, but it was far from perfect. 7 out of 10.

But Deku Deals already has all of this sale info. Couldn't you just grab a list of what's on sale from there, put it in your own format, and then post it here? Why make it harder on yourself by manually searching for what's on sale?
I've never used that site, which is kind of a result of getting shit on by people here years ago for taking shortcuts in the past to get lists done sooner when I've had life stuff get in the way. It ended up getting me to not want to use anything else but the direct source for that stuff since then. Can't really explain it in any sort of rational way other than wanting to avoid confrontations with people that get angry about that sort of stuff.

Don't let those people get to you. You're doing and have done a great job. I was not directing my good gems that are cheap list at you. It was more a general suggestion to find games that are must play at 5 cents or whatever.

It has nothing to do with you and everything to do with baggage I have from dealing with jerks that flocked to my threads over the years that hated me that still keep at it to this day. Luckily, my ignore list helps most of the time.

This thread is fine if you want to ask/answer a question, or talk up a game that's new or on sale. Post away. But, if you're going to have a full-on debate take it to the discussion forum, please:

Well those people don't deserve the time of day. I don't think anyone here now would mind where you got the list. Especially since the eshop is such a pain to get through. Maybe try it for a while and see if it's better this way.

Some odds and ends from this week that happen to be all about niche rhythm games:

Groove Coaster is on sale again! $47.99, lowest price since release. Highly recommend this, the Undertale DLC if you’re into it, and a Flip Grip.

I hope the DLC gets a sale too, as good as it is there’s too much now to reasonably buy at $16 a pop.

This came out with zero fanfare on a Wednesday: The 2nd season of Hatsune Miku Megamix DLC started this week, includes a pack of Sega-themed tracks and more and actual new tracks in the other packs. Pass with all 6 new song packs is $30, each pack is $7.

And the Puzzle Bobble-style Touhou game, Spell Bubble, is getting an English localization and a physical release later this year in Asia. Hopefully this comes over or the Japanese version gets updated with it, it’s fun but there’s a lot of text and relatively little voice in it, it’s just barely import-friendly as is.

Just came back to say I decided to grab Bug Fables, and oh man what a great choice. Skip Paper Mario, grab this game. Always possible it nosedives later on somehow, but I'm just under 10 hours in and LOVING it.

Just watched some videos and it looks excellent. Bummed I missed the sale even if it was only 10%

I can't speak to Bug Fables because I haven't played it yet but I disagree adamantly with people skipping Paper Mario. It's a fantastic game and I'd put it right up with TTYD as the best Paper Mario games.

I wish Nintendo would do a remake of LoZ: The Minish Cap. I feel that game doesn’t get the love it deserves. One of my favorite games on one of my favorite consoles of all time.

My apologies if I went off-topic in the only good Nintendo thread on this forum.

Both games are good, but the $25 price of Bug Fables makes it a steal, especially if someone doesn’t want to pay $60. I also feel like the Origami King puzzle combat system can get cumbersome over time.

A copy of Thousand Year Door CIB and described as “minty” sold on eBay for $165, which is the highest I have seen. I’m hanging onto my minty copy, but I wonder what the ceiling is for that game.

Labo kits are $19.99 at GameStop. Online for shipping and store pickup. Probably a glitch, but they qualify for the free saver shipping too.
