I agree, the Wii U is way overpriced. Normally, "N" drops prices decently over the life of a system/handheld, but the Wii U was just a HUGE cluster  fuck from day one, and there was no way to fix it's issues easily.

The best thing they could have done would have been to offer a tablet free system like MS did by removing Kinect, and lower the retail price early on, but "N" never thinks of the future, and with the way the Wii U was designed, it was all but impossible to remove the tablet. Or if it was possible, they decided not to do it, as that would be admitting the tablet was a bad idea, and they wouldn't do that either, as they are stubborn jackasses. SO either way, they made their bed, and now their lying in it.

I've been waiting on a less than $200 price before I buy one for myself, and the GS $179 deal was looking pretty sweet this weekend, and I had it in my cart, and had to pause. Now that the system is all but over, my less than $200 mark is now $150, as I just can't pay $200 for a now dead system, as the game prices are still way to high, and I personally just don't see the value in it even at $200 currently.

Probably the right approach at this point. Glancing at my shelf there's probably only 25 or so must own games at the most and a couple eShop exclusives. Some of them are really great but only two jump out to me as being better played now than later: Splatoon and to a lesser extent Mario Maker. Though there is something of a rarity factor with a lot of Wii U titles so best to get them when you see them cheap.

That's why I picked up Tokyo mirage sessions #FE cause even the week it was released Best Buy did not have it on the shelves even though online it was listed as in stock. I had to order it for in store pick up.

Yep. I've brought up the "Drop the tablet, price cut to $200" argument before but the knee jerk response is usually "BUT... THEN YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE 2 PLAY NINTENDO LAND!!111" Yeah I think for the ability to play smash bros, mario kart, bayonetta 2 and other for a hundred bucks less up front I could live without that crap. I don't need an inventory/map screen in front of me that badly. It's too bad too because nintendo righted the ship with the 3DS immediately. If they had acted that fast with the U they could have turned it around.

Buying new is over rated.  I got a WiiU for under 200 ages ago.  This was back before the NX was even announced and buying a WiiU still looked like a good idea.  I think the lesson to take from this is never regret buying WiiUsed.

Sadly, there was nothing technically wrong with the 3DS, except for "N" greed, as it was over priced to make money on hardware. Once they brought the price to where it should have been they did OK.

Since the tablet is most of the cost of the Wii U, there was no correction they could have made(except to drop it), that would have fixed their issue straight away.

Ultimately they should have just reworked the games that required it, or made options that would function with other control options, but I think they just threw in the towel early, and just said fuck it.

They have really gotten lazy and lackluster in recent years, and the Wii U is the most perfect example of that. They take ages to do the most basic task, and when they do finally deliver on something like SNES games for the 3DS, it's still a half assed effort, as the games will only work on the N3DS. Why even fuck ing bother?

Anyone here thinking the NX is going to be anything more than another "train wreck" is in for a HUGE disappointment. Anything they do at this point that is going to be cost effective, is going to be weak compered to the competition, and if by some miracle they do make a robust piece of hardware, it will be overpriced, or they will be taking a loss, and either way without great support from 3rd parties, it will be DOA.

Buying new is over rated. I got a WiiU for under 200 ages ago. This was back before the NX was even announced and buying a WiiU still looked like a good idea. I think the lesson to take from this is never regret buying WiiUsed.
But here's the thing. If you're buying a Wii U you're probably buying it for the 1st party Nintendo titles. In other words, games like Mario Kart. That title goes for $60 even today. And it comes bundled with a new $300 Wii U preinstalled but not with a used one you can get for $200. So unless you have no interest in getting one of the best Nintendo only titles on the Nintendo System you're buying with no other redeeming features but the Nintendo 1st party games you're really only saving yourself $40 buying used. Not $100.

Only 25 must own games on the system? I don't know if I would have had that big of a list on decades old systems when I mostly played them as a child.

I will quickly say that Nintendo made a worthwhile system that plays their games well. That is well worth the price if you want Nintendo games. The biggest mistake they made was naming the system "Wii" again.

You realize if they tried to run SNES games on regular 3DS it would run worse than Hyrule Warriors Legends did, right?

My point was not the performance, but the rather poor way in which these games where offered to the market. Most of the 60 million, or whatever the number of units is out in the wild are the original 3DS's, and the N3DS is a rather small number of those.

I was just pointing out how lame of a business choice that is. Now I'm sure some will argue that it is better than no SNES games at all, but that doesn't change the facts of how it's a HUGE slap to the face of those who own 3DS's already, or the facts of a game like Zelda being delayed so it can be offered to a new system and fan base, instead of releasing as promised to those who already spent money on the Wii U.

These guys are just treading water at this point, and doing more harm than good most of the time, and treating what little market they have left like shit. Am I wrong?

So...you would rather release Breath of the Wild on a failing system instead of using it to launch their brand new system a few months later? That is by far the stupider business decision, especially since the Wii U version was not cancelled at all. Anybody owning a Wii U can still buy Breath of the Wild and access all of its features.

It is probably 20 more games than I've played on it and must own is definitely being used in context of the catalog itself. I think I on every Wii U title worth owning so far and the stuff that's good is mostly really good. Was it worth $300 for a system to play 25-30 games when even later Nintendo titles are barely worth buying? Probably not, which is too bad.

It's a failing system of their own making. Why should the consumers who paid $200-$350 have to wait, or suffer due to their mistakes?

Why not release Zelda now for those who own a Wii U, supported it, and kept the dream alive? Then do an upgraded version for the NX down the line when that system launches?

I know why their not doing it, so they can milk whomever they can for extra dollars for the NX and the game. Yeah, that is probably the better choice from a financial stand point, but it's screwing the few fans they have left.

What happens when the NX launches and does as poor as the Wii U did, or even worse? Should they start promoting the next system, and holding back games for it? When would it all end?

As was stated, the 3DS had a rough start, but they put 110% in to turning it around, the Wii U got none of that, which is BS.

I am surprised you would think a system would not be worth it for as many games as you seem to like. Based on the number you gave, I would have figured your enjoyable time to dollars spent is very high, or at least higher than other activities your partake in.

@DNukem170

Don't bother. Chris has very thorough out and strong opinions about Nintendo (or "N" rather) that will not shift. Just walk away.

For me, the Wii U would be worth $300 even if it had only Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Maker, and Super Mario 3D World.  My bulge pulses for Mario.

Yeah, but I'm used to getting suckered for Nintendo's software. I like to take the small victories when I can get them.

So i also got the Birthday coupon notification on the My Nintendo site, but nothing showed up when i clicked it. However going into the eshop on my 3DS and found it under the "Just for you" offers.

Coupon says i can get 30% off of one of these titles:

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon
Puzzle & Dragons Z + SMB edition
Super Smash Bros.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe
Mario Kart 7
New Super Mario Bros. 2

Thankfully i'm still new to the 3DS and only own one of these.
Now which one to use the coupon on.....

Yeah, the "just for you" offers section appears to be where the actual deals get placed, but even there they don't show up for many. It seems to be a YMMV greatly with these e-shop special promotions.

I finished Weapon Shop de Omasse a couple nights okay. It was cute but got very repetitive by the end. I have a hard time recommending it to folks. You make weapons in your shop, characters come in to rent weapons for their adventures, and you mostly just read about what is happening to those characters during their adventures. The text appears on the upper screen while you forge and polish weapons on the bottom screen. It's about as fun as that.

I got my birthday 30% offer this month, but it's for a bunch of retail games that I'd rather have physically. I wish they had thrown some virtual console games in the mix.

Well I would exclude MarioKart 7. There are plenty of deals for that digitally from Groupon and other sites cheaper.

Personally I'd go with Puzzle and Dragons Z. Perfect game to have digital, it's already cheaper than the rest and I don't think I've even seen an eshop sale for it.

How long is the coupon good for?

puzzle and dragons was dirt cheap i got my 2 copies for both under 8

Was going to buy the Link theme with my coins as I only have the generic one for my 3DS but figured I'd check it on youtube first. Good god who the hell paired that music up with a zelda theme? Think I'll keep my silver.

It goes until the end of the month

Yeah, I guess it was OK music for DK but it ruins the Zelda theme. It makes me think all my Nintendo exclusive themes will have this song no matter how misplaced it may be.

Must be a popular Birthday month, I too received the 30% off promo....

The full list for those interested (13 Games):

3DS
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon
Puzzle & Dragons Z + SMB edition
Super Smash Bros.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe
Mario Kart 7
New Super Mario Bros. 2

Wii U
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Yoshi's Woolly World
Super Mario Maker
Splatoon
Mario Party 10
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

A decent list if I had a 3DS or didn't already own all of the Wii U games physically.

Nintendo trying to brainwash people to go all digital. They subtle about it too.
They've been doing the same things at retail for awhile as well. Have you noticed how physical games don't last long at all? They are producing less & less, and then once they sale out you have to go digital, or wait and hope the game in question gets a players choice release.

Chatted with Nintendo to ask about the birthday offer, according to them it didn't begin until July 1st, which makes sense since my birthday was the 28th of June.

You really couldn't have held me in a few more days, ma?

Literally every company is. Valve already succeeded with almost all digital on PC.
And Nintendo would have better luck with it if they had some more interest in doing more cross buy and not tying everything to a single console. Me and my sons have 3 3DS systems. I buy physical because we can use the cart in different 3DS systems. I wouldn't mind if they only let you play it on one console at a time and had a way to move licenses around freely among multiple 3DS systems tied to your account.

Has anyone tried just changing their birthdate on their nintendo account to see if they get the discount? Mine was in June and feel pretty shafted...

It doesn't allow you to. You also can't create a new one and get the discount, must be disabled for new accounts, or ones without activity.

... I heard from a friend, that is :whistle2:

If Nintendo did a cross buy thing and let me buy one game once to play with all my Nintendo devices and let me log in and out of my account the way Microsoft does I would be buying Eshop games hand over first. Instead they don't, and Nintendo rarely gets a dime out of me. Too bad. I'd get my entire SNES and NES catalog for digital if I knew I wouldn't have to buy it again just to have it on another system.

Believe me, I do not buy digital Nintendo (unless it is free or digital exclusive) because of the lack of unified accounts. (steam, XBL, PSN) It certainly needs to be better. I have faith that my steam games will be there in 10 years. I do not have that faith with my eshop games. (and I still have some lingering doubts about xbox and playstation)

birthday coupon sucks.  I was excited at first, until I saw it was a limited selection of games. It also says it doesn't combine with other offers(We'll see if that's true if/when one of the titles gets discounted), and the only game I'm interested in on the list(Paper Jam) was cheaper just a week ago and I passed on it.

And you are correct and Iwata had already spoken to this several times before his passing.

The biggest hurdles for the 3ds environment, according to him, was that they did not build their systems or models for it. Sucks, we suffer for their poor insight but so do they.

Also, the whole point of, mynintendo, and the Nintendo Account is to link everything together. So at the moment you probably have a NNID, a My Nintendo account, and Nintendo Account.

It looks, at least from my perspective that the Nintendo Account will eventually replace the NNID and will be your linked account across all systems.

Hopefully Nintendo has built their new environment around having all of this functionality work so you don't have to buy your SNES vc games 3 separate times.

Also we have no idea what the NX platform is, but there are several interviews from the past 18 months where Nintendo specifically said they are going to address these types of issues and things liek region lock.

Sorry if this has been asked but does DLC ever go on sale?

I have $50 in eshop and would like to pick up hyrule Warriors DLC or smash DLC but I'm patient enough to wait for a sale.

I dont think I have ever seen Nintendo DLC go on sale. Ever. Especially Smash DLC. I don't you benefit by waiting if you want to enjoy the content.

The only DLC I've seen on sale were SMTIV's DLC and the episodes for Moon Chronicles. Nintendo's DLC "sales" tend to be whatever bundles they might offer or if you can get them with points on My Nintendo.
