No new deals today, for those wondering. This is the first time in a long time that there are no Atlus games on sale, so those that don't like the Atlus sales can be happy for a little bit.

The security issue only affects iOS users
Right, iOS users who sign in using their Google account, which is currently apparently the only way people are playing since the Pokemon Co. account servers (the other options) have been offline since the servers initially collapsed.

I wonder how long I can go before playing this game. Hopefully forever. :) Also wonder how much of a fad it is, or if it's a lasting deal. People of all ages are wandering around here playing it. Gets people outside walking, which is nice, but I also see people playing it on their phone as they drive around, watching the screen instead of the road. Not cool.

Not sure how granting the company the full rights to read your email, send email, and see anything else you do on your Google account if they choose is platform specific.
Because it's a bug/issue that only affects those playing the iOS version. Android players aren't getting whatever is causing those permissions to be auto-accepted without any sort of prompt with their version. I haven't seen any prompt concerning that stuff on Android, which may be more due to the login stuff being an OS level feature instead of however iOS handles it.

Guess I read it before he updated it to say it was only iOS. Considering this isn't a bug but how the developer set up permission request with Google there's no reason they couldn't require you to have over full permission to use it as a sign in on any platform. It's an issue if it's not being displayed and auto accepted but the real issue is still that you're handing over full privilege.

You can go to your Google Account security page to see all apps that have been granted permission to access certain parts of your account. For iOS users the app has been given all access permission, it doesn't even show up for Android users

I can even block permissions on my Android. I don't give it contacts permission, for example. And I can block camera and a couple other things too.

Apparently full permissions were never actually granted, but the game was using an old version of Google signin, so it appeared to grant full permissions. They've updated the app now to clarify only basic permissions

Not to change the topic from Nintendo deals to iOS/Android/Pokemon/whatever, but is anyone like me attempting to resist the lure of Pokemon Go? When I see everyone in the world playing it, it makes me want to NOT play it... But my will to not play it is rapidly diminishing. The security issue was a good excuse for me, and now that's gone.

It's not that great other than it's Pokemon related. We just walked around the neighborhood for an hour and got less Pokemon than we did at Costco yesterday. Plus there's the whole walking around with your phone glued to your face thing which is meh. I wish it could just run in the background and buzz when there was a reason to pay attention to it.

You can set it to do that. I put my phone in my pocket and take the dog for a walk around the neighborhood and it will buzz if any Pokemon appear. Of course if you're going for a specific one then you do have to be glued to it to triangulate it's location.

You actually can do that. Open settings in the app and turn on battery saver, then put it in your pocket or hold it as you walk. It'll vibrate when you encounter a pokemon and beep when near a pokestop.

The higher your level the more rare and powerful the pokemon you come across will be.

Also they're adding trading into the next major update

I'll have to figure out how to do that then. Kind of kills the point of the walk when every 5 minutes the kid wants to see if there's any Pokemon near.

Why? Join them and you'll also pause and catch pokemon. Win win.

It's why I downloaded it. Missus dragged me for a walk, and kept stopping, so I downloaded it too.

I have seen lots of people driving around playing it, too. :( Almost got run over by a gal yesterday. At least when people do it, they are generally driving really, really slowly! That guarantee does not exist when people are texting.

BTW, Nintendo's not actually making as much money as you might think from Pokemon Go. Apparently, Apple gets 30% of the cut, Niantic is getting 30%, The Pokemon Company gets 30%, and Nintendo gets 10%. Nintendo owns 1/3 of TPC, so at max they get 20% of the profits from iOS versions and a little bit more than that from Android sales.

True, but think of all the people who will buy their first Pokemon game when the new ones come out, like me.

Why? Join them and you'll also pause and catch pokemon. Win win.

It's why I downloaded it. Missus dragged me for a walk, and kept stopping, so I downloaded it too.
Well we went for a walk to catch Pokemon. I just don't want to be walking around with my phone in front of my face or setting that example for her.

Off topic, but Nintendo is releasing essentially a NES plug and play with 30 games.

Although this is from the UK site, you can probably expect the same list of games. They will also be releasing an NES style controller. Plugs seem to be the same as the Wii remotes.

Seems like you can also use the controller on VC games that accept the classic controller. That's pretty cool.

Price is $60 for console and one controller.

I'll be honest, I play as I drive.  But that's only seeing whats around.  When I actually see something I want, I pull over, park, and chase it down.  The only thing that miffs me is that the best pokemon in the area are near the bridge so it's a real pain to ever catch those without wrecking ourselves.

That being said.. my neighborhood is garbage.  Nothing but Ratatas and worms.  BUT... there's a park down the way (no joke) 15 Pokestops and 2 gyms.  There were hundreds of people there all on their phones.  If you estimate that about 20% are on the phone.. that's still a heck of a lot of players.  And at least 5 of the stops had the floating petals which implies someone dropped the bonus on them.

I'd probably pick this up if they brought it over. Price is not bad, depending on how many of those games you own.

WOW, surprise, surprise, another system that needs a AC adapter but it's not included. These guys can't spring for a .50 cent cable so someone can use their device straight from the box? Damn, what happened to this company?

Us version has an AC adapter, there is a North American Press Release, sorry for the Euro folks who have to buy an adapter or use one they already have. It probably was a cost cutting feature instead of making a separate package with euro plugs. Or a euro plug adapter.

More than likely it was conceived as a US only release and then Euro wanted in on it.

Also your reading skills are bad because the Euro one does come with the USB cable you just need to provide your own plug.

From the US PR

"
The system comes packaged with an HDMI cable, an AC adapter and one NES Classic Controller, which is patterned after the iconic design of the original NES controller. "

My reading comprehension is just fine:

*Note that an AC adapter for the USB cable is required to play the system but is not included in the packaging.

What part of my statement did I get wrong?

Granted I am busting your chops a little about semantics but

"These guys can't spring for a .50 cent cable ". Pretty sure the usb cable is in there but no plug. As you quoted.

And Again this is EU only, and I can see why due to needing adapters for the plugs. And yes, I agree thats horribly cheap of them.

Cool, it is coming here.  Few things:

  • If this is sold everywhere, like these items tend to be, I'll probably grab it at Bed, Bath & Beyond with one of their 20% off coupons.
  • It's cute that there are controller ports, but how long are these cables?  I've been wireless so long, hard to go back.
  • It'd be nice to have the ability to add other titles.

The wires was a main negative for me. I would have to think of this as something to plug into my pc monitor or something rather than into the tv where the closest seating is far too far away for any normal cords.

It would be nice if these took GC controllers so at least I could use a wavebird controller.

Since it has a Wii controller port, I wonder if the Nunchuk would work on it?
I'm guessing not. Can you play NES VC games with just the nunchuk? You'd be missing Start/Select buttons. It'd be fun to try it though.

I'll definitely grab Witch & Hero 2 to play after I beat the rest of Boxboxboy.

Man Kemco really needs to slow down with all the rpgs they've been putting out on 3ds lately.  Or at least have a sale on the one's that have been out for awhile.

I'd like to buy em but not at full price since Nintendo is giving us a lousy exchange rate on digital goods in Canada.  $10 usd should be $12.90 Canadian not bloody $14. I'd be fine with them rounding to $13 but taking an entire extra dollar ontop before tax even comes into play is just robbery

My first impression is that's awesome and then I looked at the games and realized there isn't a thing I would actually really want to go back and play yet again that I don't have on some other platform already. Now the SNES idea I could get behind, especially if it had all the Square games, since that stuff is harder to get in modern form.
