NintendoEverything review says it's only an hour and a half. The reviewer hadn't played Hotel Dusk, so experienced players may find it even shorter. Even though Hotel Dusk is in my top 3 games of all time, I will probably wait for a sale unless some people say it's actually as good as Hotel Dusk.

Grabbed a $10 card and just finished the download.  If its an hour and a half, so be it.  I'll just consider it a movie length game.  I'll probably wait till this evening to play it so I can relax and enjoy the experience.   Hotel Dusk is likely my second favorite game of all time... with Shenmue being my absolute favorite.  I've played Trace Memory (Another Code), Hotel Dusk, and Again.  So I can compare much of the past Cing games... as well as plenty of other adventure games.  I have been saving my copy of Last Window for when I'm ready for that last bit of greatness for the adventures of Kyle Hyde.

It's not really worth that. AJ is by far the weakest game in the series.
You misspelled Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, but it's okay, I've got your back.

Apollo Justice is my second least favorite in the series, though, so you're close. It's still worth a playthrough, at least.

I like both the AAI games, even if the second was better. I'll certainly never forget the final boss of AAI, even if I try.

I'd still give all of them a play at least once. Even a bad AA game is still a good game.

I got the Gunvolt Striker Pack physical copy (so I could share it with my son that loves Megaman games), I've really been enjoying it but haven't even gotten to the second one yet. What's the deal with a patch? I guess I really don't pay much attention to the dialog, is there something I'm missing on this?

As far as Aeternoblade, I just watched the trailer on the eShop, they REALLY went out of their way to show some sideboob on that.
The first release of Gunvolt had a translation that cut out all midstage dialogue (I think it was all voiced, too.), cut out all Joule chats except for 1 generic one, and basically sounded incredibly try-hard and corny. The PC version restored all the cut stuff and redid the translation to be a bit less tryhard and a little more faithful and actually included both as an option.

There's really no other way to describe the first translation other than tryhard. It wasn't BAD but everything was packed full of fake curse words (Jock jitt zizz whatever) and a real attempt at sounding gritty at every chance they got.

PC version also included several extra minigame modes, including a hard difficulty that removed all the gear grind advantages.

I haven't played the Striker Pack or seen what's included but I think 3DS players were getting impatient to get the more faithful* translation with the content restored as a patch. Striker Pack is probably where that would have been stuck, if anywhere.

Long story short, if people talk (endlessly) midlevel in your copy of Gunvolt 1, you have the more faithful translation.

*I say more faithful not from reading the language but just from the tone being less over-the-top.

EDIT: For what it's worth, Gunvolt isn't even a traditional Mega Man game. It's a score attack game. If you aren't playing for score, you're playing the slowest easiest MM out there with some great bosses.

If you DO play for score, it's even slower, but now annoying and fiddly for all the stop and treat every enemy as if it's fine china to get maximum points.

Well, from what I have read recently, this game is of an "episode" style nature, so that's why it's so cheap, and so short. The problem is, I can't find any information on how many episodes it's supposed to have, or if any others are even planned for US release.

Finished Chase last night... I won't spoil the story, but some of this may be considered spoilers so read at your own risk.  It took me around an hour and 40 minutes from the start till the credits.  This is 100% a VN.  There is no exploring or multiple locations... just back and fourth conversations and multiple choice questions.  So it's easily the most VN game this team has made thus far (much more so than Again was).  While the main mystery is indeed solved by the end of the game, there are other unsolved mysteries left in the air.  Still, the one you start with is completely done by the credits.   I'd say overall the story was pretty good which in a VN is nearly all there is anyway.  But this is a good chunk of the old Cing team so of course having interesting characters and a good story should be a given.  For $5.99, I feel like it was worth it.  I've bought games for less that had a lot more content but I can't think of many where the characters have this much thought put into them and their motives.   IF they end up with a few more cases to solve then that'll just expand this new universe of characters and maybe we'll eventually get a packaged version.  One positive I'd like to point out is that the case is solved is completely logical.  There's nothing super ambiguous that they throw out at the last second to make you feel dumb.  I hate games that do that.  They do a good job of exploring stuff even I was thinking about as the story unfolded.  So it made the characters seem extra logical and more real.   Also the graphics are actually fully animated.  So they did put some effort in to try and make what is on screen look good.

To buy or not to buy?  Know what you are getting.  To me it was completely worth it not just because the story is interesting but also the price for the content was fairly reasonable.   I like that I'm essentially supporting the old Cing team.  I'd rank the overall experience above Again but way below Hotel Dusk.  I'd put it maybe close to Trace Memory.  Remember Trace Memory was also SUPER painfully short.  I feel like I solved that game in one evening and it lasted maybe a couple hours or so.  But that may be a good thing.  IF they do follow this up with another game or some dlc chapters and they ramp it up the same way they ramped up between Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk then we could be in for a heck of a great experience.  But time will tell.  If you are leery, pass on it.  If you are curious or just want to support the team with a cheap $6 purchase, go for it.  I just hope enough people buy this to encourage them to make more.  These are the kinds of VN's we actually need.

As somebody who also picked up the physical Striker Pack, I can confirm that Gunvolt 1 does have both translations. I haven't seen anything about a hard mode or any minigames, but I also haven't beat this version yet so for all I know they could be in there as post-game unlockables.

In the steam version, hard mode was in the extra menu option on the title screen. In GV2, I'm really enjoying playing as Copen more than Gunvolt.

Monster Hunter Generations physical is 23.99 GCU right now. Are older MH games still worth playing after Generations? Thinking about picking that and MH4 up.

I guess there's the argument for 3U on the WiiU still being relevant, if only because Monster Hunter completely abandoned consoles after that.

Apollo Justice is so much worse. It's boring AF.

Really tempting but I still have MH4 somewhere unopened and it will be cheaper like 4 and 3 were so I will resist. And not having played it I will say probably not. 4 is supposed to have added a lot from 3 and Generations was supposed to have added a lot to 4 so it's probably going to feel like a noticeable step back.

I''m playing this game currently, and where I've never thought anything PW related was bad, this game has not been that great. I'm maybe half through the third story, and it's been pretty boring thus far. The characters are blah, and the stories are pretty bland as well.

Generations is basically Monster Hunter's Greatest Hits, and while I think you probably could get something out of 4 after playing G, there's no real reason to go back.

Have you played AAI? Apollo Justice at least had its moments, but absolutely nothing about the former stuck with me as fun or memorable, especially since they completely removed the best part of the series, i.e. the court segments. I literally can't remember most of the game, though the fact that it's been seven years since it released probably doesn't help; then again, I have absolutely no desire at all to dust it off and play through it again to jog my memory. The same goes for AJ outside of the first and (to a lesser extent) last cases, though. Hell, I still have nightmares of that third case.

Either way, I usually see fans dump on AAI the most, but AJ is often right behind it. I'm really glad that they turned things around with Dual Destinies and especially Spirit of Justice. It's really telling of how AJ and AAI were received when the latter's sequel was never localized and the latest games aren't even given physical releases.

I actually rather enjoyed AAI, as it was something new and different and was more like a point & click adventure(of sorts). I'm really looking forward to playing AAI2 at some point after I finish AJ.

So far AJ isn't really doing much for me, but I've still got 1 1/2 episodes left to finish.

I liked AAI a little more. I didn't finish either of them, I don't think. I knew what I was getting going into AAI, and I expected PW going into AJ, so that may be why.

AJ was terrible mostly because of it's hacky clusterfuck of a final case. Good luck buddy.

Damn, so it gets worse from here and not better? fuck , that's not good. LOL

I got DD when it was first released, and AJ and AAI2 where the only games I hadn't finished, so awhile ago I started replaying through the series and AP is where I'm up to currently, and this was the game I stopped playing the series at originally and was the only game I owned at the time, but never finished.

Maybe with it not being so good was why I stopped playing the first time, but now I want to get to the newer games, so I need to finish this one before that can happen. I'm really looking forward to AAI2, as I always love a good fan translation. Capcom, fuck You!

Apollo Justice is one of those cases of games that have a lot of good ideas and you can see where they want to go, but the execution is just not all that great.

That being said, I hope there is a future game that picks up the lingering plot threads from this game.

I have read and think it's obvious from playing that the top brass came down on the writers for AJ with last minute changes demanding Phoenix in AJ and another change I will hold my tongue on for discretion's sake.

To make this work, the actions of essentially no fewer than three major characters were rendered utterly incomprehensible, as their actions contributing to the plot had to be brushed aside to make this new Phoenix-centric plot work.

I mean, they left lingering plot threads after writing off essentially every character who could resolve them.

Just a heads up, but people have already data mined the demo and apparently it has most of the Pokedex in there, so might want to avoid social media for a while.

do people seriously care about Pokemon spoilers

they're already scraping the bottom of the barrel with Pokemon designs, is it just wanting to stay in the dark about what the new stupidest Pokemon will be? It'll be hard to top Keyring and Trashbag

Ugh, I don't get this argument. Every batch has good designs and bad designs. The original 151 has some of the worst designs in my opinion.

I haven't read all the details, but I'm disappointed by the supposed number of new Pokemon.

name something in the original batch as bad as Keyring or Trashbag

like, its worst were the ones that were just regular animals with different names, but I actually like the idea of "real" animals not existing in the Pokeverse. They don't know what the fuck a bird is, they have spearows and pidgeys.

Grimer and Muk are pretty much on the same level as Trubbish. I actually kind of like Klefki, which I view as akin to Voltorb - a Pokemon that would trick people in that world.

Other terrible Gen 1 designs: Jynx, Mr. Mime, Seel, Exeggcute/Exeggutor, Tangela, Hitmonchan, Ditto, and Dragonite (but mostly because Dratini and Dragonair's designs are amazing).

I don't know why it's okay to be clearly based off an animal with little imagination added, but when it's based off an inanimate object, it's terrible.

I'd also argue that the most creative designs belong to later generations, mostly due to necessity of using up lots of the boring designs in the first.

I'd argue Seel is more boring than outright bad. Don't really see what's so wrong with Ditto, though.

Given how much detail every Pokémon has and how much they're actually taking inspiration from Hawaii, I'd say this is the most thought-out Generation yet. Most of these Pokemon, including the new Alolan Forms, feel native to Hawaii, as opposed to the previous two Gens, where we had ninjas in France and daruma dolls in the US.

Boring is part of why I don't like Seel, but I also think it's kind of ugly. The name doesn't help it.

Ditto is a pink blob of goo. I can't see how that's any better than a trashbag.

I generally think it's fine if a person likes the original 151 Pokemon better than later generations, but arguing that they're objectively better than recent generations sets off my BS meter.

Anyways, I do think the Alolan forms are pretty interesting, although even they're not uniformly great (see Persian).
