I finally tried Skylanders over the weekend. Got the starter kit for $3.99 from that Best Buy the other day. I had even gone to Gamestop and bought some second-hand figures, trying to get as many different elements as I could.

What I didn't know is that if I had Skylanders Trap Team, I would need the specific Trap Master Skylanders to open all the portals. I thought simply having an Earth Skylander would be enough to open a portal. No. I need a Trap Master Skylander. When I realized that shit and ran into yet another area I couldn't unlock, I boxed everything extra I had bought to return.

At least this stupid Skylanders experiment only cost $3.99.
Yeah, you picked the wrong game to "experiment" on. Trap team was the worst at making your old characters worthless and locking everything up so you would have to buy more.

If your still curious I would recommend swap force as that was my favorite.

The following game, Superchargers, doesn't have anything locked behind an element or character. You just need one of each vehicle type, Land Sea and Air, to access everything and most of the starter packs contain two of the three already.
But the reviews for that one seem less than stellar. Is it Mario Kart? Is it Skylanders experience with some Mario Kart-style missions on the side? I bought both the Donkey Kong and the Bowser set, so I have two vehicle types. Haven't opened them, though.

The Wii and 3DS versions are strictly Mario Kart clones with the ability to fire weapons from your car normally along with item box power ups along the way. The WiiU/PS4/XBone versions are the standard skylanders experience with added vehicle related sections in levels that are optional. The racing mode is also included in these versions as well.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to skip the whole Toys to Life thing. It seems a little complicated and a little too much of a money-suck, gotta catch em all, kind of thing.

The only Toy-to-Life game i can recommend is Lego Dimensions. You don't need every single character to get 100% and there are crazy deals here and there. Plus the majority of the characters are from familiar franchises and you get real Legos.

I could see myself trying Lego Dimensions if there were a really good sale to help me try the game out.

The starter pack usually goes down to $30 ish which is a pretty good deal. And there are a lot of good deals on some of the year 1 items. A bunch of 99 cent stores in California, Texas, and the states inbetween have gotten some of the discontinued sets, and if you don't live in the area people are reselling them on ebay ~$6.

Lego had a TON of good sales where you could get the starter sub-30 and most characters in the 3-6 dollar range.  Dimensions, so far, is my favorite of the lot.  And that says something.  BUT I don't play that one on Nintendo.  In Infinity, I moved over once I realized I was only getting half the game of other consoles so I never bought in to it on that platform.

Where were you for the black Friday deals?
I picked the game up then but haven't started it yet

Just was never terribly interested in the franchise. I like Lego alright; I just don't like the idea of games with lots of shit that's added on. I want the game, and everything is nice and digital. I don't want a bunch of figures and pieces and things everywhere.

But I'm not the right market for this stuff. I have one amiibo: Pikachu. Just because I like him.

I bought into Infinity because I liked the stylized looks. I bought Lego because the story was funny as hell. The lego's themselves are a bit of a pain (esp since they have in game instructions to build them). There are good resources online that'll give you the manuals if you don't like doing the ingame ones. OR you can just sticker the base and not put anything together. I like the retro look of most of the minifigs. I think the Back to the Future is my favorite, though I like the Adventure Time world.

Reminder about My Nintendo coins expiring today. So be sure to go to the website in a vain attempt to find something to spend your coins on.
I think the Earthbound discount also expires today or tomorrow so I may just get that since I don't own the Virtual Console version of it yet.

Wait whats this about coins expiring?
They expire after a certain time at the end of the month from when you earn them. Gold coins are one year, and Platinum (and related) are six months. It's "rotating" as well, meaning when the expiring month comes up, only the ones that were earned six months (or a year) ago will expire.

did anyone get their pts from that fire emblem thing  like 200 gold coins

forgot all about earthbound    hopefully they put it back up for the 3ds.. still up for the wii

then again if i remember playing it on the snes you need the guild   that is why it   came with it

Aren't they being awarded sometime after the voting ends?

Edit - The site says 200 Platinum points, not Gold. Points will be applied "A few days" after the event ends, and it just closed yesterday.
some reason thought it closed few weeks back

wow these new discounts suck

80 gold coins for 30% off

why do they keep putting these 99 cent iso rpg out for 9.99 cant belive that many people are willing to pay 10x more just to play it on the 3ds...

now if they would put say 5 or so on a single cart for 30 i would buy it

So it looks like I'm getting the discount on all the Nintendo 64 virtual console titles I owned on the Wii except for Mario Kart 64. Is anyone else who owned it previously getting the discount price on Wii U?

I did get the having owned it discount.

Hausu is the best, btw

So I canceled my Nintendo Switch preorder. There just isn't enough out for the thing at launch, besides a bunch of ports. If I want to play Breath of the Wild that badly, I'll just buy it for the Wii U.

But I won't. I love my 3DS. The Switch is just too big to replace it.

Well, the new president just stated that he is considering a 3DS Successor, because he sees a need and demand for it.

As bad as I find "N" to be currently, I can't even see them turning their backs on their traditional handheld market. The NS is just not that device, so I'm looking forward to an NS "slim" down the road, or some other type of device that can be an actual good replacement for the 3DS.

I think what we are realy going to see long term is more games coming to both platforms. We are already starting to see that. So the eventual dedicated handheld will be on the same platform as the Switch etc. so if you want to be a home gamer you can play all the same games the handheld gamer does. It is silly for them to split resources on development. Let people pick what hardware they want but make your games to a target that works on both.

I'm sure this is what will happen, as "N" is slow as fuck in everything they do, so when they combined their divisions years ago, I knew this would be the most likely out come.

The only way I see them not doing a similar system, is if the NS just flat out bombs, and then they go with a handheld that is very different, as to not taint a future handheld market with the NS's bad blood(I doubt it will bomb that bad though).

I actually think the NS is a pretty good idea(and is what the Wii U should have been 5 years ago), but the price is obscene, and I have no desire to pay for features I don't want or need, so I'll be waiting on the next handheld system, or a better valued NS.

The base system's price isn't really what bothers me, it's the accessories' prices. SHEESH

So we all realize that the Switch is most likely going to get a holiday bundle later this year with a free Super Mario Odyssey and/or Splatoon 2, right?

I don't think there's a chance they bundle Mario. I could see them possibly doing Splatoon or MK8D seeing as they're basically remakes. Most likely it'll be 1-2 Switch though.

The price is less than I paid for my Vita (Borderlands 2 bundle) & 64GB memory card new. And that was well into the life of the Vita and not at launch when the price was actually $250 for the base WIFI system and another $100 for the 32gb memory card.

To me, the price makes more sense than getting a Vita did.... and I really had to talk myself into that one despite loving handheld gaming more than console or pc gaming.

The problem is, Nintendo has had a recent history of screwing over it's most fervent supporters.  3DS (and no games within 6 months of launch) Phat?  Wii U?  Hell even the Wii, which had its success, was marginal until grandparents realized how fun bowling could be.

Even my 3DS doesn't get picked up like it used to.  And this is coming from someone who's had... 10-15 of them?  I just can't justify the switch in my head.  To big to be portable.  Not enough batteries.  Too expensive for what we're getting.  And right now, I'm eyeballing the Scorpio (or whatever) specs.  The most used console right now I have is Xbox One because of the voice/kinect/tv integration.

And now they want me to PAY to possibly get online for Nintendo games?  No thanks.

The price is less than I paid for my Vita (Borderlands 2 bundle) & 64GB memory card new. And that was well into the life of the Vita and not at launch when the price was actually $250 for the base WIFI system and another $100 for the 32gb memory card.

Yeah, it's all personal perspective for sure. I bought the Vita at launch, and besides the memory card pricing(which is still dumb ass fuck ), I thought it had a good launch line up of games, and was a pretty cutting edge handheld at the time for the asking price.

I got the $250 set, with a 4GB card, and Uncharted GA, for maybe a little over $300. To this day, Uncharted GA is my favorite title of the series(I haven't played 4 yet), and that game alone was worth the price of admission for me. Wipeout, Hot Shots Golf and Rayman where also really nice, new and great titles.

Outside of the joycons, and the tech included, what games have been shown for the NS, that the Wii U couldn't have done, are have done in regards to MK & Splatoon? The best game the NS will have for the first year is Zelda, and I can get that for the Wii U. So as I've stated, for me, I just don't see the value. As I would be looking at about $400 out the door for the bare bones NS, and Zelda, for what is pretty much a Wii U 2.0. I can get a refurbed U, and Zelda and still be well under $300, for the same game that is costing some $400.

The Vita had at launch, or within 6 months more and better titles than the NS has for the whole year, and they where at handheld pricing($40 or less, except for Uncharted). http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/12/22/playstation-vita-launch-lineup-and-details/

So the Vita wasn't perfect, but over the last several years, I've bought more games for it than any other system I've ever owned, so where you don't see the value here, and others may not as well, I would say the Vita will have more games released in this year(after it has been declared dead already by many peoples standards), than the NS being a "New" system will, so yeah, I for sure see the value with one, and not so much with the other(depending on ones point of view of course).

Splatoon 2 is a sequel, MK8D is a port.. maybe a enhanced remaster (which is a port) at best.

Remake would mean they remade and older game entire from the ground up with new entirely new assets, engine and code.

Are you saying games would be multi platform for3DS and Switch? Kind of defeats the purpose of 2screens, 3D, having a stylus, on a far less powerful system. And most of their newer games aren't just old IPs they're like Yoshi now with dogs or updated version of old Zelda so I don't know how many resources they have to make games.

Okay lads I just found out why the FEH poll results haven't hit yet. Apparently, the Japs hooked Trump up with the results early and then THIS happened.

We may be looking at war soon.

Do you have a link to back this up?

NM found it everywhere.

No, we were specifically talking about a future forward dedicated handheld, since everything coming from Nintendo this week has been like, yeah we can still have a dedicated handheld.

Dude 3ds is getting support through, this year at best, but look at the cross made games, they are already going this route, hell they are abandoning 3d as it is. See Fire Emblem Warriors for both 3ds and Switch. Expect more announcements like this, and then in the future expect Nintendo to have a software platform much like a Play store or iOS app store that has a level of software that works across all supported hardware. Switch is just the first step towards this unified software platform.

My guess is 1, 2, Switch when they realize no one will pay $50 for that game. Either that or MK8 Deluxe since they are putting the bare minimum in that port.

Does anybody have any stylus recommendations? Doesn't need to fit in the system; I just want something more comfortable than what's included with the system.
