Number of processes running

I just got a new laptop, reformated it, and I noticed I have 47 processes running. Is this a normal amount?
 
That is about normal. I am running a virus clean install of Vista right now and I have 68 running. That is with my web browser right now plus WMP and a bunch of other stuff so 47 sounds normal.
 
It more or less depends on what exactly you have running. If it's a clean install, then there hasn't been any chance to contaminate your system with a bug, virus, spyware, etc. (though there really isn't much out for vista anyhow). Probably with some antivirus, a firewall, etc. will add to it, but that sounds pretty decent.

you didn't mention what OS, but like everyone else said it SOUNDS about right.. i've got XP Pro and 48 right now, but i got a ton of crap running..

but if you're concerned you can always google the 'suspicous' ones..
