Odd Ps3 online problem

So today my family was over for easter, happy easter everyone, and we played NBA 2k9, they liked it so much that they bought it on the way home. When we went to play online we were able to join the same game and set everything up easily. But then when we got into the controller select screen i noticed a third username it was his name with a "(6)" next to it, in the screen, but i just went on assuming if it would be assigned to no team. However, it keeps defaulting to the left side and we cant play because it controls one player but the player doesnt move and cant be moved. My cousin doesnt even have two controllers however the other day i brought my controller over and synced it, could that be the problem?Thanks in advance

you have to reassign the controller to controller 1 if you are the only one playing. press the ps button and reassign to 1. should work, good luck.
