Official 2012 Yard Sale Thread

I went to a yard sale at 815 that starts at 900. I ask the lady if she has any video games, she says no, but her friend is coming at 900 with a bunch of Nintendo games for a dollar each. I ask if she can hold them all for me and I will be back at 900 - she says sure. (The only reason I left is to go to other sales). When I come back, I see a kid with his mom holding a ton of N64 games. I see that he has Mario Party 2 & 3 on top.
I quickly go to the lady and she says she forgot to hold the games -WTF!!!! The only stuff left is crappy sports games.
At the other sales, I got
Gamecube with Gameboy player - $3.00
Spyro the Dragon PS1 - $2.50
Frogger PS1 - $2.50
Final Fantasy VII PS1 - $1.00 (missing disc 1)

Remote Control RC Boat - NIB - $15.00 Retails on amazon for $175.00

Snagged some good stuff this weekend

GameCube w/ gameboy player $10
Ninja Gaiden NES $1
Blaster Master NES $1
Monopoly NES $1
Pokemon Red $1
Pokemon Fire Red $1
Mario Party Advance $1
Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (GC) $1

$2 Games from the same household
-Sly Cooper 3
-Ape Escape 2
-Katamari Damacy
-Worms (don't remember which one)
-Jak II
-Bioshock 2 PS3
-Little Big Planet PS3

Also got a power joy famiclone which I'll probably be tossing on eBay soon since I already have one, and a shit ton of genesis games for $15 bucks. All complete and in immaculate condition, I can't remember them all but highlights included

-Michael Jackson's Moonwalker
-Phantasy Star 2
And some other RPGs and great games I can't remember. I'll try and post a pic

Long post, so bear with me, or skip whatevers your pleasure :) Definitely had the best find of the season for me, will put up picks later or
tomorrow when I get home and get to go through exactly everything.

Struck out most of Sunday morning, including finding legend of the dragoon for ps1 (one of the only ps1 rpgs I never owned), but guy wanted
to sell it as part of a ps1 set, which included like 8 or 9 ps1 sports titles
and system for 50 bucks so no go. Was about to give up, when I checked my phone and found a sale that started at 9(it's 11:30 am now) in my town.

Went there and starting talking to the guy and some other buyer about new york sports teams(we were all fans of mets, jets and rangers). Other buyer left, seller asks me about Mets 86 team. Tell him I was only 7, but my best ny sports moment is the 94 Rangers cup win. He says I got some memorabilia from them if you want it I just got to go in the house and get it.

He goes in and I spot a Magnavox Odyssey 2 box. Ask wife what they want, says need to talk to husband. Husband comes out (without Rangers stuff), and asks if I'm a gamer. I say yes, he goes back in the house and comes back with a box of boxed odyssey 2 games (must be 15 or 20). Tells me give me 10 bucks for it all, I say sure. He then says do you want any turbo grafx 16 stuff?

Turbo Grafx 16 is probably the only system I never owned from back when i was growing up(besides Neo Geo). He comes out with the system, 2 controllers, turbo booster, and like 20 games, most with cases and instructions. He says he only wants 10 for all of this, I say sure.

So overall I got:

Magnavox Odyssey 2 system, 2 controllers and like 15-20 games boxed
Turbo Grafx system, 2 controllers, Turbo Booster, and like 20 games
All for $20 dollars

Again sorry for the long post, hope some people enjoyed reading it, and pics will be up tonight or tomorrow

I found one of these at SAVERS, but it wasn't working properly. That is a nice find!

Now you guys have me looking at all of Amazon's trade-in values. Has anyone here ever traded in retro games? For good condition they all say "must include box and manual." Does the same apply for older games (N64, SNES, etc.)? I've only traded in current gen games. This would be a decent way to unload a few games that I have gotten multiple copies of over the years.

Edit: One other question to anyone who may know: Do they accept disc-only games as Good condition? If so, I may be getting a lot of Amazon credit soon.

Thanks for any help!

Nope

it may still be worth it to send the disc only games since for example the $30 games drop down to $21 for acceptable condition, still not bad considering the values at the moment

Haven't really posted all summer. I figured I would wait til things died down and put everything up. Check the thrift store and CL threads too.

$1 at a community sale. Also picked up another copy at savers for 1.99 recently. :hot:

8021776644_76f67ea9aa.jpg

$1 each.

8021770244_9d865bc8d8.jpg

$20 - not a steal but there was still money to be made so I went for it. Think it had the charger too and a couple plastic game cases.

8021769210_d66cf989bc_z.jpg

$1 each

8021767032_b4b451cca4.jpg

$20 - came with a couple common games and a controller, regular dualshock not PSone but whatever. Screen is in awesome shape, as you can see it still has the little plastic protector on it.

8021758957_f2c215604c_z.jpg

Game Boy Stuff:

$10 - all boxed games are complete, even have those little plastic trays.

Zelda:

$1

8021756397_4cf23c77e1_z.jpg

Box and styrofoam only. Free, I actually found it in the trash. Some people were moving and having a sale the next day and were putting a bunch of stuff in the trash.

8021757646_4762d3bf81.jpg

$1 for the pair. I can't believe how consistently people pay upwards of $50 for those Gameshark discs on Amazon.

8021749558_0ed0e49874_z.jpg

$3 each

8021742593_fa99df0018.jpg

$1 for the pair. Bought these from the same lady as the toys above. Good example of a sale with a bunch of gaming stuff (t-shirts, toys, movies) but no actual games. Asked her and she went in the house and brought out a box of games and I grabbed these 2. Funny thing was with the toys at $3 a piece and me only having twenties I offered her 2 piece for these for an even $10. I always feel bad paying with a $20. She says how about $7 for everything. I never understand when people haggle me down. What?

8021870825_65e052a940_z.jpg

$10 - had all the wires and booted up on the first try. I love how even my n64 doesn't always start up right away, but this nasty-ass fucking Sega plays NHL 94 like it aint no thing.

So that's the better stuff for the summer. Also picked up some other decent stuff, mostly records, books, etc.

....wait, gameshark disks are worth money. I swear I have like 2 or 3 lying around here if i didnt trash them or give them away in the last garage sale

i missed the play can someone describe exactly what happened??
I'm a Seahawk fan, and I totally agree with you. That was a BS call.
The Seahawks played a great game and I think they even deserved to win it but they didn't win it.

Apparently there is a new rule in the NFL; if you possess a player who possesses the ball in the endzone . . . its a touchdown. Clearly Jennings came down with the ball and Tate had a hand on it . . . Tate gained 50% possession only well after they came down . . . like a second after they were down.

I can't believe the replay ref didn't overturn the call.

That's not really indicative of value; these discs can usually be had for as little as $15. The most I've seen one go for recently is $40 for a complete copy. I'm surprised the GameShark Pro doesn't sell for more. I mean, it has some compatibility limitations, but that thing was a beast. I used to spend hours hex editing all of my games and submitting the cheats to CheatCC. Man, those were the days...I would really like to see GameShark make a comeback soon.

I'm behind for the last few weeks . . . might do a few makeup posts down the road.

I did want to jump in on the magazine discussion--only a few days late :)

Anyway, I came across this one in my stuff:

Anyone should keep an eye out for it if it has this inside:

I had some problems with delivery (back in 2003) and requested that they send out an issue I missed . . . but they sent this one as well so I had 2 copies. Its not going for as much right now but I sold my disc only copy for $50 on Amazon in May of this year.

Packers didn't deserve to win anyway.. They looked like garbage. 8 sacks in a half?? Seriously??

I think the Seahawks played great defensively, but offensively they didn't do much, especially against a suspect Green Bay defense.

As for that last play, I don't know how the refs didn't overturn that play either, so obvious that Jennings had the ball, rediculous...

The Seahawks offense looked like crap so not like your argument makes much sense  unless you're saying that they should have tied

on-topic: I've always wonder how some of you guys get great deals. It's rare to find a yard sale with video games around here.

Don't hold your breath on this stuff; I noticed a bunch of majorly screwed up TIVs over the weekend and I wouldn't be surprised if half I what I'm sending in will be rejected due to this fact alone. It's a crapshoot, in the past I've seen them accept beat-to-hell discs marked as acceptable and reject cartridge-only games in nice shape marked as acceptable.

I'm sending in some minty complete items as well... it's actually become something of a test because I'm wondering if some of these third party fulfilled by Amazon types are hunting for high grades in order to reseal them and sell them as New.

You think these TIV's are a glitch / mistake and prone to being rejected? Already had plans for that free GC I was getting lol.

I thought it indicated the value in the sense that when I sell games it's primarily on Amazon, and that was a screenshot of the prices on Amazon at the time of my post. If you couldn't find things for a better price than the "going rate" often, this site wouldn't exist. ;)
Nice! I love TG lots. I wish I could find more TG games in my area.
Me too. This is the first I've even seen Turbo Grafix stuff in my area out in the wild, except for last year I think. A local thrift store had the system and keith courage for around 80 dollars if I remember right. Tried to see if it would make it to 50% off day so I could pick it up for under 40, but it was gone by then.
There was a gameshark released for the PS3 from what I understand but I have no idea what happened to it.
There technically was a GameShark, but it didn't enable cheats; it was more of a media manager/player. I believe the last "real" GameShark made was for Gamecube. We have Xploder for the current-gen consoles, but it just uses modded saves rather than actual cheats (and you really don't need to buy Xploder for that). Le sigh. I know most people these days are against cheating, but I for one miss being able to disable/lower random encounters when playing JRPG's.

But those aren't the going rates; they are inflated prices from sellers doing a lot of wishful thinking. The going rate is the amount that something actually sells for, which is quite a bit lower (around $15-$40 in this case). If you put your copy up for less, you'll likely have the best chance of selling, but only if it's a reasonable price and/or you attract someone who can't use eBay for some reason. Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy to see you bring in a nice chunk of change; I just don't expect it to be quite as profitable as you would like.

You're probably okay if the TIV is close to the base value--heck we could compare notes if you want of what gets accepted or rejected. I didn't trade in any PS2, Gamecube, or newer stuff; I was mainly doing ps1 and NES thru n64. What weirded me out was getting $20-30 credit on games that are normally $5-10...the only other thing I can figure is that Gamestop's plans of moving into the retro market are already having some pre-emptive effect.

I dunno, the sales rankings on some of those are pretty good. Plus the fact that you can use Amazon credit allows for some of the items to sell higher. Amazon is kind of like a rollercoaster; that bottom listing shows that all conditions have been bought up to that amount, but you can make sales for higher than that amount. Listings can go either way really, the price can tumble when supply temporarily outpaces demand, but also the whole market can shift and suddenly one's camped-out high price will be the new low price.

I know what you mean. Just because something is listed Buy it Now on eBay for $100 doesn't mean it's actually worth that much. In my case I bought that about a month ago and sold it (on Amazon) a day later for $59.99, the lowest price at the time.

So I agree they aren't worth that much, but in my experience people do actually pay that much.

So let's hope Obiwan456 didn't toss his!

Remember kids, I don't have a smartphone or a way to check pricing. I tend to buy sealed stuff if it is cheap. Looks like the Judy Collins CD and the Journey's End are good ones!

Not bad at all. Most of those are worth the standard $2-$5, but Castlevania, Adventure Island 2, and Captain America & The Avengers go for about $10-$15 each.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was for an OG xbox or the 360, but then I looked closer and figured it out. It didn't have the cover on the back, but the guy looked around for it. He said his brother traded off a lot of his old stuff and these were the leftovers. He thought I was crazy for wanting the "empty case".
