----------------------------------------------------------------------

FAQ

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
USPS Media Mail

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
Yes. If you’re worried about your package, definitely take advantage of these shipping options. You’ll just have to pay a little extra to ship your games. NOTE: There have been cases where the post office doesn’t allow adding these options on prepaid shipping labels, but try anyway or go to a different post office.

I don't trust Media Mail. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
43 Broad st. C403
Hudson, MA 01749

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit in 3 to 5 business days, however.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the trade-in deal?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however. On the other hand, older gen games, such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 10 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that it might still raise red flags. No one has reported attempting this so we do not know for sure. 2 to 3 copies of a game should be okay, but more than that is pushing it. Also, keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always edit or cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
Yes.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Does the ECA discount stack with the trade-in deal coupon?
Yes.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?
Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.
But if I can not find another copy of a game, what would be my best option?
Cancel and resubmit...
I bought 40 inFamous games for 40.50 each which totaled to 1620. The TIV right now is 34.25 each. If I send in packs of 2 and get 68.50 per game + 30 credit that's 98.50.

So I would end up sending in 20 packs of 2. 98.50 - 81.00 = 17.50 per box I profit.

17.50 x 20 = 350.00 extra

I mean that's a lot of money but does it seem like a work. It would only take like 30-40 minutes to pack the boxes and put labels on and what not. Then a 10 minute drive to Post office. I'm just worried that I'm taking a risk with sending in 20 boxes (afraid it might get stolen or lost and I lose out)

Yeah I know the 30 extra is for gaming but I buy most my games off Amazon ever since I got ECA. I was just wondering if it'd be worth it or if it'd be too much work
TOS states: -Limit one discount per household, per qualifying order.

hope you have 19 other addresses you can use.

TOS ALSO states -In the case of multiple trade-in orders, the coupon code will be given for each qualifying order that is received.

Bet you missed that little contradiction.

In any case, it's a rather strangely written TOS.

However, with these two lines, I THINK what it means is:

One ACCOUNT per household can take advantage of this offer, but that account can take advantage of it multiple times.

Like in my case, my brother and I both have Amazon accounts. If I'm not reading between the lines too heavily, only one of us can take advantage of the offer from our household.

Basically, what I mean is...

One Amazon account per household per offer, but able to send in multiple orders that take advantage of the offer, ONLY from that account.

But don't quote me on this
Well, I just saw that my Trade In was not fully accepted. I have a "Damaged item- cracked" next to my KOTOR II. What the fuck? Seriously, Amazon seems to do this far more often than I'm comfortable with. I've shipped many many games in my time and I've never had anything cracked before. I'm seeing this excuse more and more often in this thread.

Now I'm paranoid about sending stuff in. If I get a cracked disc back in the mail, I'm going to be so pissed.
I asked this earlier, but I'd like to hear from people who had "cracked" discs sent back from the earlier promos. Did they actually come back cracked? It seems like we've never heard from anyone who actually got their game back after having it rejected.

Yep, mighty strange, which is why I'm sticking to trades that would be worth it even without the promo code just in case it does turn out to be one per household. In any case, I would *never* spend $1600+ to make just $300 via a risky method like mailing 20 packages, even if it was cash ;) (let alone in nebulous Amazon game coupons).

I'll be sure to post whenever I receive it, but it could take up to 14 days according to the Amazon FAQ.

Wow, so I made a trade in order of $112.50 on 7/18 before the promotion was around, I sent it out today not even knowing about this promotion. What are the chances I can email amazon and they'll credit me with the promotion? Any idea where to email them at?

Slim to none. Best thing you could do is cancel the order and hope your stuff gets back before this promo ends. Trouble is that your TIVs may go down by the time you get your stuff back.

Someone else might know something better as I haven't personally done this.

Package I sent Monday morning (7/13) from North Bay Area in Cali has just arrived and all games were accepted. I consider myself lucky since all I had for protection was the bubble mailer I used to send out the games.

Still waiting on a package I sent out Wednesday morning.

Tomb Raider Underworld is not a terrible way to transfer GS credit to Amazon credit. $18.99 at GS - 20% weekly coupon - 10% edge = 13.29 before tax. Trades for $13 at Amazon.

Brother's in Arms: Hell's Highway is still a pretty good flip as well. It's currently $18 used with a $10 off tag on it which puts it down to $8 which is incidentally Amazon's TIV for it.

I used a bubble mailer which is essentially an envelope lined with bubble wrap on the inside, speedracer. Worked fine.

Funny how that works. I just got confirmation that they accepted the games (from one package) that I sent at excatly the same time that you did. I'm in the Pacific NW though. I actually mailed two packages to them that day - one a box with 3 games (which was just accepted) and another single game in a bubble mailer. I haven't heard about that single game yet, but it could have taken a very different path (and of course while I got DC on the box I didn't bother for the single game so I have no idea where it is).

I'm mailing another box of 3 games today - these are the things that dropped too much so I didn't want to use them for the $30 deal even (Mirror's Edge, PoP). I probably won't bother with DC on this one either.
FYI, Indiana Jone and the Staff of Kings (Wii) is $19.99 at Newegg and Amazon's TIV is $21.50.
Great find. Thanks a bunch.

sent mine at the same time and nearly the same place [ south bay ] and my DC # says it arrived but amazon says it hasn't.

so for those who are wondering, if you use media mail and you're shipping from CA, it takes 7 days.

Not necessarily. It is highly YMMV even on the same package mailed at the same time. I mean, mine also took a week this last time, but the one before took a full 2 weeks.
went to two different post offices and said i couldn't add dc or insurance to my package -_- so hopefully it will get there okay otherwise >
Did anybody even find a complete copy of KOTOR 2? I searched 4 GameStops and only found one copy that was disk only.
I talked to the lady at the Gamestop in Champaign and the only places that have KOTOR 2 in Illinois are in Chicago. Over the weekend, I was in Chicago and only found discs of the game. I saw about 3 copies of the game over 4 Gamestops. I ended up buying 2 incomplete copies and am currently trying to reproduce the cover and manual.

What would be the best thing to buy and then flip with the 50% off coupon. I was hoping to get the G25 but I don't think thats going to happen.
Indiana Jones deal is already dead. They're now giving $14 instead of $21.50. Hope some others got their orders in.
Damn, that didn't take long.
We definitely have got some NorAm snoops here.

Wow, impressive speed for Priority Mail. I sent out a shipment totaling $55 on Saturday, July 18, and according to my DC number, it arrived today. That's gotta be some sort of record: 1 day from SoCal to NH, 1 day from NH to MA 01749. Speedy. Just a matter of waiting to see if they accept and I can get in on the 50% off coupon (I locked in the order on July 17).

Did the trade at amazon on saturday for the trade $50 worth get 50% off only problem one of my games doesn't have the manual. Has anyone had a problem trading a game to amazon w/o the manual.

good idea, but i checked with one store and they said it is $27.99 with the $10off making it $17.99. a second store said they "discontinued" that game for the $10off promo. third store claimed it was the PS3 version (which has TIV of $4.50 @ amazon) with the $10off sticker. cool if you can get it to work, but i couldn't

Yeh, I'm about 95% sure it's 18 -> 8, not 28 -> 18, cause when I brought it up to the counter for the B2G1 sale (I had 2 other games with me) the sales clerk said he couldn't put 2 deals together and could only give me the B2G1 deal which left BIA:HH at its original price (18).

For asking this while there's a FAQ on the front page addressing this question then yes, you will have a problem.

My experience wasn't with a game but with a DVD box set I sent in a few weeks back...one of the disks, unknown to me at the time, had a pretty bad scrape on it, so they refused it (it was labeled 'returned-damaged item' in the trade in confirmation email. It took about three or so weeks for it to be returned but I got it eventually.

OK, thanks. I was wondering for two reasons. Well, first, those people who claimed their stuff was mint I was interested to see if there was anything wrong with it when it came back. But also, I am expecting some rejections since I completely spaced out last week and sent in two games without manuals. I think I got mixed up with people saying they got a few GBA games accepted without boxes or manuals and figured I was OK. Either that or I was thinking of Blockbuster where they need the original case/UPC but the manual is not important. In any case, this was a second 50% trade I was making on my wife's account (same address, though, so chances are I wouldn't have gotten the bonus coupon anyway). I just wanted to have some idea when I might get them back as one may still be a decent trade at GS or something (the other was Mirror's Edge unfortunately). Maybe, though, since it was a pack of 6 or 7 games they won't notice the two missing manuals ;). It needs to get there first (mailed Weds last week, still en route from the sorting facility in WA to the one in MA).

can we send in GBA games without case or manual?

i'm thinking of moving my pokemon leafgreen

i have infamous 34.25 and Kotor 13 = 47.25 I need 13 credit which pokemon gives me

YMMV!!!

They accepted two of my games w/o manual. One was Bioshock on ps3 and the other was a wii game.

I'm really pushing my luck with some of the games im sending on my next order . Shipped on the 16th and probably won't hear back till Monday the 27th...

KOTOR no manual, no cover art
JSRF no manual, no cover art

They're older titles so we'll see how it goes

Yeah, one of mine was a DS game which might slip past as it is less noticeable that it is missing a manual. I'll certainly report the results once I know. Good luck on games with no cover art though .

I'm pretty sure when I packed up my trade-ins and mailed them in today(BTW I took photos of all items and even bubble wrapped games in package for safety) and in the shipping instructions that printed out with the usps shipping label and final trade confirmation, I think it only says to make sure you include the original game case and cover artwork but it does not mention the instruction manual ! :)

I know this is different from the website instructions before you trade in which asks for what I listed above AND the manual as well.
