Official Amazon Quick Picks FAQ - READ 1st POST

Got Metro 2033 for PC today! Looks to be in the vein of STALKER or Fallout, so I threw down an order.

Also got some Asian porno called Captive Factory Girls or something rofl. It was recommended since I bought Demon's Souls, because they clearly have a lot in common.
I still get crap picks from time to time. You should either pre-order some stuff related to what you want (and cancel them later if you don't want them), or mark and rate more items. When I pruned the owned/rated items lists down too much, I ended up getting absolutely no good picks.
That's the odd thing though. Everything I want to show up is listed in my recommendations section. I've rated and listed as owned nearly 300 items and then filtered out the junk I don't want popping up. And still I'm getting ridiculous things in my Gold Box. Take today for instance. I ended up with 3 items: Pilot G2 Pens, Java Juice Liquid Coffee, Remington SP19 Replacement Heads. Obviously none of that is related to games and none of that is even remotely connected to my recommendations.

Edit: Lol, what a mess. I checked out the Pilot G2 Pens and listed under what others bought is :360:Tekken 6. I then checked the Tekken 6 page and, sure enough, the 6th item listed is the Pilot G2. Figures. Out of all the items it could have chosen from, it picked the one that wasn't a game.

Bumping this back up. Has anyone ever had an item they've actually purchased pop up in their Quick Picks? It just happened to me and it's a bit strange, as well as the complete assortment of junk I have in there. I know Amazon isn't supposed to take browsing history in account but I'm beginning to wonder given all the crap I browse through to clean up my recs.

Yep, I made a note of it in the OP. This happens when a game gets on the 'junk' list, meaning that it was forced into your picks just like those Michael Jackson CDs that keep showing up. Usually happens with an extremely popular game, like Uncharted 2.

I actually got Uncharted 2 about 4 days ago...little over 3 months after I actually BOUGHT the game.

Oh, and while it is still in my memory Jodou, you might enjoy knowing that I successfully got an item added to a previous ECA order where 1 or more items had already shipped, so it looks like Amazon can add items to an ECA order as long as one or more items still have not shipped.

Oh Em Gee! Was it a time factor of when it shipped? I'm starting to feel guilty, but it does offer confidence in day one purchasing. Now, if the gold box discount also applied I would feel dirty lol.

I've done this a bunch of times. Just give them the name and ASIN of the item you want added. As long as the order is still open, i.e., there is at least one item in it that has not shipped yet, you're good.

Yeah, but then people were reporting that once items shipped, Amazon wasn't able to add anything to that order. Guess they were just being retards and talking about orders that were already completed. Long live my ECA order!

I had just been deterred by this particular page that says they can't add items to orders "where items have already entered the shipping process."

Then again, it also says that for orders "containing items not yet released" and "to which promotional funds have been applied," both of which I've proven wrong, so I suppose it shouldn't come as any surprise. This potentially means I could milk the fuck out of my ECA order, since I have games in there that won't ship until next year at the earliest, like FF Versus XIII and Dead Space 2, and by then I could have added more items that won't ship for longer. Ooooh man.

My original plan was to keep adding games as they were available for pre-order, creating a never-ending loop until I read that you couldn't. Now it's back on track until I either get banned or they fix the loophole lol.

Yeah, I don't know. Like I said I've added a bunch of things to my original order from October and they haven't said anything yet. Neverending preorder loop is pretty much my plan too. :)

I've tried picking something and going to combine orders and everything I have (pending or otherwise) says "Order state ineligible for combination"...

It has to be done via e-mail or phone. I usually just fire off a quick e-mail with the game name and ASIN number, asking them to add the game(s) to my order. So far I've been met with no resistance.

I also got some rather interesting games in my Quick Picks, two of which I've never even heard about at all, and one or two usuals.

:psp: Mimana: Iyar Chronicle
:360: Deadly Premonition
:wii: Endless Ocean: Blue World
:ps3: Resonance of Fate

Got Yakuza 3 as well, but that's already on there.

:ds: Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box
:ds: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
:ds: Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story
:psp: Star Ocean: Second Evolution
:psp: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
:ps3: Gran Turismo 5

hmmm odd thing today... I've been letting my quick picks just run rampant for the last couple months... well yesterday noticed that there were some things I wanted in it... so go and clear it up... have about 6 things in my recommended....

today I get 1 of those items in my picks. the others instead of being the usual junk that you don't want like pet supplies/coffee machines/etc are items that are related to things I've bought. so I check my recommended... same 6 items. never had this happen and am kinda puzzled about it.

So I've been experimenting with how recommendations affect our quick picks and can conclude that they are either wholly or partially created when you submit your query. In other words, you can still manipulate your quick picks for the day before viewing them. To test my theory, I waited until Amazon populated my recommendations with an update and then I'd either remove them all or leave it alone. Every time I removed all my recommendations, I'd get nothing from that list in my picks. If I left the list alone or just removed a few, all remaining items would be waiting in my quick picks.

This is very fascinating since it means our quick picks are generated at time of execution, rather than a set time each day. A timer still exists for when you can generate new quick picks, which sadly I don't think can be manipulated. Would be pretty sick if I could figure out how to do so, though.

Managed to get:
:360: Tropico 3
:ps3: White Knight Chronicles, God of War Collection

I'm actually tempted to get the GoW collection. I loaned my copies of GoW 1 and 2 to my brother a while ago and he takes a hell of a long time to finish ANY game, though I'd probably just add it to my existing ECA order.

Edit: Also thought I should warn you guys of the apocalypse. Amazon has done the impossible and updated their site. I just did my weekly search, and BOTH Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metal Gear Solid Rising are available to pre-order on the PS3. Once they get Valkyria Chronicles 2 up there, I shall be placated.

About damn time; going to email Amazon to add them to my order right now!

Updated!

Its not listed in the first post, and that seems to stay pretty current, but I was wondering if anyone has gotten Dragon Age: Awakenings in there Gold Box yet...?

(Got credits floating around that I would like to get used.)

I left it in my recommendations for a few days, but it is not eligible yet.

Heavy Rain was forced into my picks today; must be a lot of pre-orders going on!

just to update the OP, i got professor layton and the diabolical box, and super street fighter IV (360) today.

I got the Record of Agarest War Limited Edition in my gold box today... which I've yet to see before so it might be a new one for those looking for it.

I got this too, as well as Metro 2033 for 360.

Metro 2033 I had gotten awhile back and actually preordered it. I'm not hearing enough about it but what I have heard has been good. (Will see what they are saying close to its release date.)

That's awesome!

...Is it possible to get it in my goldbox if I already have it on pre-order?

Extremely doubtful. Not sure just how limited the game will be, so the only risk you run is them selling out. If you've been manipulating picks for a while now, you should be able to pull it off by tomorrow with ease though.

If its a current preorder...? I would be more than just shocked if it happened... Amazon's system is smart enough not to offer you something you've already ordered.

As for canceling the preorder... Well, as Jodou stated, it doesn't happen often but I've had it happen before... I preordered White Knight Chronicles when it was gold boxed to me before but canceled it a week or so ago because the reviews (though very limited in number) haven't been real positive only to have it appear in my gold box the day after I canceled it.

Sort of tempted with Record of Agarest War... I have a feeling that the limited edition is probably going to be only the original print run like the LE of Blaze Blue was but I really don't know a thing about RoAW outside of its titillating advertisements...

Also if I wait till Bioshock 2 ships I'll have enough promotional credit to get DA: Awakenings for 6.99. (That is if it doesn't gold box in the next day or two...)

Quick question... Is anyone else missing quick pick gold box items today?

Mine is blank... I don't even have the crap they normally try to force on ya when they have nothing relevant for you.

Sucks but it does happen; better luck tomorrow. :(

I expect a lot of people got new stuff this morning! Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City for PS3 and Borderlands DLC pack for PC for me today. Also got Logitech G330 headphones in there and I'm going to bite since my old behemoth Logitech headphones really chafe.

I got the following yesterday:

Record of Agarest War LE (360)
Hexyz Force (PSP)
Mimana: Iyar Chronicle (PSP)
NPPL Championship Paintball 2009 (PS3)
Sucks but it does happen; better luck tomorrow. :(
Yeah, pretty good luck today... Nothing the thread hasn't seen yet with the possible exception of Mass Effect: Retribution. (The newest, not yet released, novel for the Mass Effect Universe.)

I got :ps2: Sakura Wars: So Long My Love (Premium) in my goldbox today, which is awesome!

...except I already have it pre-ordered from Rosenqueen for the hardcover art book.

Got MAG today (even though it's on the not interested list, wtf?). Anyone else notice there's two sets of recommendations now? You have the standard list we're used to, but now there's a side-scrolling list at the bottom of the page with a few extra items. I've noticed that a few of those eventually get promoted into my normal list, so I'm not sure what's going on (perhaps they're in the process of migrating the system to a new page layout).

Thanks for the updates guys!

I've had 3 lists for awhile now. The standard list plus a Coming Soon and a New for You list. The recommendations overlap, with the Coming Soon/New for You lists being propagated with items based upon their release date. New for You items tend to be recently release items or items due in a few weeks. Coming Soon items tend to be items not available for a few months.

I ended up picking up Yakuza 3 on pre-order two days ago from my gold box deals for $52.99

I hope thats the best price I can find, I jumped on it just in case it doesn't show up again, but I saw it again yesterday.
