FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.
I'm debating to trade here or TRU. I have some games I want to get rid of....hmm, what to do.
I was debating the same thing. TIV's at TRU were a little better ($1-2 more), but after factoring in sales tax at TRU the values were basically even. Plus you are severely limited with what you can use your credit on at TRU.

You mean total selection at TRU v. Amazon? Every time I go I get a standard giftcard good for anything they sell.

That's still a very limited selection compared to what is available through Amazon.

Quick questions:
I used about $175 worth of credit obtained from game trade-ins as well as the $75 off a new console coupon that was the first promotion to pre-order a PSP Go! Now that the launch is coming around, I'm thinking that I really don't care all that much for portable gaming and the credit would be better put towards new console games.

If I cancel the pre-order, all of the credit will be put back into my account, correct? It seems like a fairly obvious question, but I want to make sure before making such a big flip.

Also, will that coupon still be usable similar to how the $30 coupons are working for people that already had them in their accounts? I'm not sure I really care, since I don't necessarily want a new console, but I figured I'd ask anyways.

Thanks in advance.

The credit comes back, people have been able to cancel orders with their 50% off coupons and get them back, you might lucky there as well.

And I'd follow your gut and cancel the psp go too =P

Alright, thanks. Yep, just canceled and it's all back. This + $210 worth of games I sent in today should help for the holidays.

Now Amazon better not start some awesome promotion in a week...:bomb:

yeah, it's not something i plan on taking advantage of (don't plan on buying another console anytime soon so i have no use) but atleast we know amazon is continuing with promotions

Yeah, any bonus is appreciated. I'm just happy it's nothing I would have used, since I just had a trade accepted yesterday.

This is perfect timing for people that were getting ready to buy a Wii because of the price drop. $170 w/no tax is pretty damn good. Edit: Just saw the thread about the $25 GC. If you were waiting to get a Wii, this is the time people.

This ends Oct.17, so I have some time to gather more games in anticipation of another promo.

I almost quoted backseatdog's post from the previous page. Was going to mention that a new promo could be on the way. I wish i did

I'll be skipping this promo but it does sound like a good time to get the Wii. For those of you that are trading in please let us know if you encounter anything new. There are probably a couple more changes to their trade in system we don't know about and I expect amazon to be a lot smarter with their promos from now on. Other than that, I'll be looking forward to our 12am bumps again

edit: interesting that this new promo ends on 10/17.

lol good call japakneez. i had a feeling that after all those drops in TIV, that something was up. This promo ain't that great, but it is better than nothing.

I guess this thread is going to be in full throttle yet again :bouncy:

While it certainly pales in comparison with the $75 off system coupon (and even that was probably the worst promo out of the last 3) I think I'll take advantage of this one. I finally opened my DSi last week and the kids want one now. So I can get this coupon and get at least one that way as a Christmas gift for one of them. I mean, I'd be using my Amazon trade-in credit to get it anyway so why not get another $30 off? I still have $30 codes left over and I guess I could apply one of those, but if I get a system coupon then I can save those for later. I think I have enough here to cobble up some sort of trade.

I'd be curious as to some examples of what has dropped though. I noticed that Batman Arkham Asylum for PS3 went UP from a few days ago. While it was near $40 last week it had dropped to $31 a few days back and is now up to $33.75. I may pair that up with some other stuff.

And by the way, I sent something in via UPS about a week ago (still in transit since they are incredibly slow) and I am still not getting a "tracking" button on my trade-in page. It just says "shipping deadline has passed" with an option to cancel. I still don't know why some of you get that info there and I don't. This time I did get a receipt from the UPS store (I had to ask for it) and it is in the system and like I said, still in transit. And it's been 5 days so plenty of time to update on the trade-in page.

:ps3:The Chronicles of Riddick: $16.25 to $4.50

i think i should give it a try ...!!

Trade in $60, get $30.

Buy a Wii, get a $25 GC.

$199.99
- $60.00 (Trade-Ins)
= $139.99
- $30.00 (Trade-In Bonus)
= $109.99 + $25 GC w/ Free Shipping & No Tax.

Just a thought, but...

Not bad. Not bad at all...

And yes, while there is not enough time to actually get in on it during the GC promo, anything's possible.

sorry but i think i see a couple things wrong with that.
1. ECA does NOT work with consoles.
2. What are the chances of your trade in and trade in bonus getting delivered, approved and receiving the credit on your account by the 3rd?
($25 GC* To qualify, add a Wii console to your cart from September 27, 2009 to October 3, 2009)

Hmm. I might bite.

Trade in Batman and.. something else.. A good deal of the day GS>Amazon flip would work.

Batman + $30 GS Credit = $60 Amazon + $30 Console Coupon.

Here is the deciding question:

Did the $30 coupons stack with the $75 console coupons?

I'm glad I read this post this morning. Just cancelled an elite on my order page that hadn't shipped yet.
$300
-30 trade in coupon
-50 MIR
= $220
I just hope they send out the promo code before Oct 5th.

I sent in $60 of stuff last week that has yet to be received by amazon. Think there's any chance they would hook me up with the promo since the trade in will be received in the promo period?

Cool, at least there is a new promo.

I'll update the title tonight since there is no edit button in the iphone mode. Unless Mods want to update it for me. Thanks.

I just want to get others opinions, would doing this (below) be a good idea?

Trade in $60 for the extra $30 and then put that towards the new Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360. And then either sell or trade my Elite for a PS3 or 32GB Ipod Touch.

$400 - Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360
-$60 - Trade-in
-$30 - Trade-in Bonus
-$40 - Amazon credit I have
-$60 - From cancelling my preorder for MW2 at Gamestop
-$25 - From selling 1 of the controllers
-$15 - Selling other extras (headset, 1 month xbox live)
Total: $170

So I end up paying $170 and still have my Elite that I would either trade for a PS3 or Ipod Touch. So I would, in a way, be getting a PS3 or Ipod Touch for $170.

Does that look legit or am I going crazy o_O

Worth it?

Edit: Note that I would want to upgrade the MW2 Console because my Elite is not a Jasper and is a refurb.

Well, that assumes you're going to get full value for your elite. With the elite currently having that $50 mail in rebate, it seems unlikely that you'd get even $250 for it, unless you have a better way of trading it than I know of. Your elite would certainly go a long way of paying for a PS3 or ipod touch, but I don't think it would work as an outright trade.

All of the other numbers are good though.

True.
I would most likely go about trading it craigslist, because there is at least 1 post a week where someone wants to trade their PS3 for an Elite. So I think that could work out well.

If that wouldnt work, do you think it would get around $170 on ebay?

Possible but it would sell for $150 easy on craigslist which would be no worse than $170 on ebay.

Just post it on CL and see what interest you get. Adjust accordingly.

so i read in the FAQ here that if you edit your trade-in order, the TIVs you locked in will all be changed to today's TIVs.

a couple days ago i locked in a pretty large trade that included, of course, valkyria chronicles.

however i haven't shipped the games yet, so do you guys think i could just open a new trade-in order and not include VC in the first one? i mean, what can they possibly do, right?

This one just started today, and it and Oct 17. So there will not be a new one until at least Oct 17. However, there was a three week gap between the last promotion and this new one.

dino was being sarcastic. Kandal didn't read the last page of posts

Current promo isn't that enticing as even with the coupon code, Dell's discounts are far superior. Does anyone know if these coupon codes ever expire? If not, it might be nice to save up for next gen.

There is a limit of how many copies you can send in (including canceled orders), so as long your Valkyria Chronicles count is < 4 for both orders, you should be fine to omit them from the first order and ship them via a new one.

Just a reminder on the tracker I've put together, since I've seen a few of you have been asking about price drops. FYI, there's a bunch of new titles (including 50c ones) that have been added recently, so you may want to check out to see if anything new you own is eligible. Also don't forget the graph icon for each title will show the history of the item.

What does the tracker do, exactly? From my estimation, it lists titles that were previously unlisted on Amazon.com with their current trade value. Is that accurate?

The main page is just the daily tracker, showing the day's changes in TIVs since 3am central. Any titles with no previous TIVs have been newly added to the system. Most of the time however there are just price changes, since new titles only seem to happen every couple of weeks.

I'll be going for this deal, but if anyone wants to trade it for the $30 off a video game code later on when I get it, let me know.

I wish there were some decent 1:1 flips from Gamestop. I can't find anything of significance (really at all.) The coupon would help if I could get it in time for the 360 Elite rebate, but that seems doubtful. So it looks like I'll be buying my Elite from gamestop and paying tax.
