I am by no means a Halo fan (I have never finished a Halo campaign) but to say Halo 5 isn't/wont sell well is just silly. Halo 5 has a huge following with a ton of hype surroundong it and even I am looking forward to trying it out (then trading it in to play the multitude of other games coming out) trying to compare Halo sales to a multiplatform title like fallout is not going to give a good picture of its success. (Im sure thats not how microsoft is measuring its success either) Most exclusives don't sell as well as multiplatform (Uncharted I'm sure will be a huge success for sony but still wont out sell fallout)

Halo will do just fine as will most first party exclusives this holiday season but I'd bet that no exclusive outsells fallout (or battlefront)

This. I too have never finished a Halo campaign (that'll change soon as I'm playing MCC), but if you even think you can compare Halo sales to Star Wars Battlefront or Fallout sales, then I don't know what to tell you. Both of those franchises have been around a lot longer than Halo and Halo is not only an exclusive (as some have already mentioned), it's on the console with the smaller user base. It's success will be measured differently than Fallout and Star Wars. I don't know why anyone would try to downplay that.

On topic: I feel like an idiot for not pre-ordering the Jugg.

Just to say, if you need help with those campaigns, I can assist you. I've beaten them already on Legendary.

Halo will sell a lot. I beat all up to number 3 and that's where they lost me as 3 just was not that good to me. I will be buying halo 5 as I need to use my xbox for more then tv but Star Wars and fallout will definitely sell more then halo. Star Wars has a huge following and no matter how many comments you see on gaming sites hating on the game, that is just a fraction of the people who play games.

Just like how they won't be going by console sales anymore. They are going to base sale numbers off active Xbox live users? This makes absolutely no sense. I wonder if it's because they are being outsold? I bet if Microsoft sells more consoles in Nov/Dec, we will get a console sales statement.

I wouldn't think it would be that hard to figure out. The consoles were, at best, turning a small profit on a per-unit basis. As such, their sales aren't really generating revenue, especially with free games being thrown in to push the hardware. Xbox LIVE subs are almost pure profit now, since the infrastructure's setup anyway. The hardware is sold at a small profit to get people onto those high-profit subscriptions, and that's the thing that's driving the division's profits. So, they're measuring success by their most-profitable venture, rather than their least. It's the same way they're giving away Windows 10 to get people onto Office 365, OneDrive, and the other MS services.

Just thought it was an odd thing to announce. Seriously who cares how they talk about sales. But it also seems like they don't want to continue being under Sony in sales discussions. Like the first year they were giving shipped numbers, instead of the sold numbers.

Halo lost it's appeal years ago when the entire audience was tweens on the Xbox360.  But the new entry should have much broader appeal now that it's releasing as a flagship title on the new current gen system.  It will sell well. It should get very good reception since people are hungry for a new Halo game for once.

(also omg need to beat hard mode Oryx sometime this weekend.  need that emblem!  cleared the whole rest of the hm raid and I'm 310 now.)

I think it matters because they publicly release these financial record. Investors and the media would likely be completely thrown if the measurements lead to some wild swing in reporting. If profits shot up 400% because they started measuring LIVE success, people would be confused as hell.

WUT

anyone think fallout 3 will get added to BC before the release of 4, would love to jump back into it before 4
Hard telling. I haven't heard when they'll push the next update of BC titles, but I wouldn't expect it until they do the wide release of the new UI in November. I doubt it comes before Fallout 4 launches, but it COULD come that day.

It's supposed to be free with 4 correct? Maybe, it may depend when they plan on releasing the New Xbox Experience. Most people still don't have backwards compatibility yet. I've been a preview member for awhile and while I have BC, I still don't have the new dashboard. I figured Fallout3 will be one of the 100+ games available when the new dashboard is released. When everyone can upgrade, they will "flip the switch" for all the BC games.

I think releasing the New dashboard the day Fallout and Tomb Raider release would be a mistake. Remember all the issues when the beta started. Some games were unplayable like The Taken King. While I don't think there will be many issues now, it's still possible. Not being able to play those games on release might make some people start the apocalypse.

I can see someone contacting Bethesda.

Gamer-I can't play Fallout 4 with the new xbox update.
Customer service- Sorry for the inconvenience.
Gamer-Help me.
Customer service- Sorry you will have to wait for an update, this make take 24-48 hrs. While you wait, you can wear your pipboy and play Fallout Shelter, free on ios & android.
Gamer- I didn't get the Pipboy edition, it was completely sold out.
Customer service- That's OK we are making more and will be releasing them soon. Until then visit the official Bethesda Webstore to purchase the new highly collectable limited edition Fallout underwear and stapler set(only 500,000 available).

I think you're looking at that the wrong way. The new UI launched with bugs. Those are being fixed now. So, they won't launch with those bugs because the beta is sorting those out. That's the whole point of the beta. I mean, I had crashing issues on games when I WASN'T on this new UI, things just happen. I wouldn't say this new UI, which will have been thoroughly tested in the wild (which the old UI wasn't before launch, since the consumers didn't have consoles), would be a major problem when it's going to have had 1-2 months of testing and fixing. Besides, better have to have the bugs at launch (people basically expect that nowadays), rather than launch the game, release an update to the OS, and THEN have it break things.

Still, I was speaking only to how they'd approach the BC update. I don't think they'll add a bunch of games to the list right now. It makes more sense to save it for the grand launch of the new UI. They said November would be the wide release, and getting Fallout 3 running when Fallout 4 releases would make logistical sense.

I'm in a weird position. I don't collect games, I'm mostly digital but did preorder the pipboy edition for PS4 back in June from Amazon.

But then I found out my phone won't fit and then I remembered how much room this box will probably take up (I hate clutter) and went to cancel and then was reminded by how much they go for.

So, I have no real desire to own it anymore but the ridiculous limited availability is keeping me from cancelling.
It would probably be foolish to cancel.

Worth noting Fallout 3 doesn't play well with Windows 8 & 10. I can't even get it to run on my machine.

Since updating to Windows 10 New Vegas hasn't worked either. Just crashes.

I tried some "fixes" for Fallout 3 with little luck. Haven't looked into my New Vegas problems.

Didn't know that. I've only ever been on 7. Thanks for the info.

You were warned. Remember that in three weeks.
Honestly, I'm in a similar situation as the other guy, I have the pipboy edition at BBY and with GCU it is $100. I love fallout 3 and new vegas and am really looking forward to FO4. I didn't really care about a pipboy phone case though but I figured I'd preorder when it was announced in case it sold out and I changed my mind. Low and behold it did sell out and was a really sought after item so I figured if I got and didn't want it, I could get rid of it with little issue. But the price has fallen drastically since its announcement and it's only gonna drop further when the thing actually releases as the hordes scramble to offload their copies. So now the only thing really keeping me from canceling is that it's rare. Though I collect games, I almost never buy collectors editions but this year I bought MGSV, FO4, and BLOPS3. Dumb as it is, I really liked the fake hand from MGS, I have it holding my outlaw star ship figure and I'm really thrilled about the BLOPS fridge. But man, I keep thinking I should just cancel my pipboy and just get the version with the season pass.

I think hundreds of thousands did what you did. Got it without really knowing if they wanted it. And their enthusiasm is the same about it... meh.

The thought process of keeping it is the same as well, that it's rare. But once the... like you said... hordes of people have them listed and the price tanks even more, the illusion that it's rare will completely disappear and people will realize they are stuck with a "meh", non rare, toy.

I also recall on gamespot someone from Bethesda said this is the largest "special edition" they've ever produced for any of their games.

EDIT: Found the quote: "We made a s**tload of Pip-Boys, and we went back and made more, and went back and made more. I keep seeing stuff about, 'Oh, you only did a few thousand." No--we did a ton of these things. I think we did more of these things than we did for any collector's edition we've ever done, ever."

Bethesda should've just came out and gave a rough number. I remember that interview, They got really defensive cause people kept blaming them for making too little amount. But yea, accusing them of making only a few thousand is just dumb. Even niche jrpgs like Tales of Zestiria got 20,000 copies. Fallout 4 will likely sell 10X the amount. We know Mortal Kombat X had 70000 of the Amazon exclusive editions made and those are pretty much impossible to find. Plus MK X has another CE (the coarse edition). So it wouldn't surprise me if Bethesda made 100,000 to 200,000 Pipboy Editions with the demand still being there. After all its a game that will likely sell 5 million plus copies.
