Publishers can't win. They make a small amount of units and everyone yells loudly angrily that they wanted to buy one. Next time, the publishers make plenty of CEs to answer the vocal demand and then everyone (like people in this thread) cancels their orders because they suddenly don't want something just because it's available. All these same people who cancelled their orders would be bitching loudly if the item was super limited and sold out.

My King's Edition of Ni no Kuni 2 from Amazon.co.uk arrived in a beat up box.  Within the box, the game was in a smaller box that had paper around it.  Opening that box, the box fit snugly inside it and was undamaged.

I'm happy.

I agree with the damned if they do, damned if they don't thing in regards to NNK2. The thing that I personally feel torpedoed this CE is that the King's Edition, which lots of people know exist, is arguable better, and the price is extremely exorbitant. 

 
Seeing how NNK II CE is still in stock everywhere, I am glad I cancelled my preorder. There is a greater chance to pick it up later for under $100 ( I prefer $50) especially with GCU on top of a sale or clearance. I have been burned too many times on CEs that could be bought for 1/2 price months later and I still didn't even open the game and play it yet.

I know I've said it before, but I still don't think it's that much better. It's definitely a quality over quantity type thing, though. The US CE does have a more "cheap" feel across the board. I don't mind the Chibi figures, but that U.S. dio is just odd. I'd never use it, but the figures are crammed so close together that you'd really only see the monster and the spinning of the guards has more of a "but, why?" effect anyway. I was surprised when that was the only thing that moved.

Then there's the lower quality art book with more art and text.

The CD that has two more tracks than the two track LP that most won't be able to play. Neither edition is really great soundtrack-wise. I guess at least the King's Edition is pretty to look at, though.

The oddest thing is the steelbook.... I'm not sure why they went with that weaker design IMO for the King's Edition. Not that it's a big deal - the art on the back of the U.S. steelbook is the same as the "pop-up" inside the King's Edition vinyl.

The King's Edition has already dropped in price on Amazon - at least, it's lower than it was the week of release. I'm not sure what the lowest pre-order price was (without coupon codes). At the current price, I'd get it over the U.S. version.

That U.S. version was never going to be rare at that price point with 25,000 units. The King's Edition isn't even numbered, so who knows how many of those were made.

 
Pretty lacking in terms of Blizzard CE's go, as it seems to be less Physical Items and more Digital.  $99 on Pre-Sale in the Blizz Store and Amazon so far.  Will wait for BB.

and I get that too. I'm exactly the same way. Too many CEs, too little wallet. It's just that when there's something you really want you have to buy it when it's available, and not feel bad about it if the price goes down. You win some, you lose some. It's about supporting good releases too.

I have no sympathy for people who whine about not getting a particular CE or collectable. The Nier black box was a good example of this. Every once in awhile something is uber rare, but 9 times out of 10 they simply didn't want it bad enough to pay for it. The people that act like they want something badly after it shoots up in value drive me up a tree.

People get caught up on wanting to have rare/limited things. The success of LRG and other companies is pretty indicative that the rarity is often more important than the content in the market.

I buy things that I want based on my interest in games. If I think something looks promising enough, or if I'm a fan of the series, I'll spring for an LE if it's offered. Otherwise, I have enough collectibles and such; I don't have room for every CE under the sun and I don't feel compelled to purchase them.

For what it's worth, my wife and I were fans of NNK1 and we bought the NNK2 US CE because of it. I think it was a pretty good value and I'm happy with my purchase.Lots of cool extras, steelbook, and a season pass.

Funny thing is Nier black box was available for preorder for almost 2 months. At the time all I see was people complaining how overpriced it was. Then these same people wanted at release when it was sold out and price jumped to $500 on Ebay.

Nah, it hasn't even gone up at BB AFAIK. I love the look of the ally horse from the CE but I don't think it'll top my fleet of prestige ponies from PvP that took months to get. Also, no art book in the CE this time? Or is that list incomplete lol.

 
Yeah, just means it's not available yet. They always make plenty of these and even when I'm not playing, I still get a copy for when I do pick it up again.

MSRP was $29.99, not $49.99 like Kiwami 2. Regardless, if you like the series, please support it on Day 1 so we keep getting the games released here. I hardly ever pre-order anymore but Yakuza games are an exception.

Unless they're doing that to hype it. The Lost Child LE (PS4) started out that way and then a few days later magically went to 75-100% again. I don't think anything they ever release drops that quick.

Going off of what the other quoter said, but nobody knew just how much fun Yakuza Kiwami was going to be, and nobody knew how much fun Yakuza 0 was going to be. I don't see this game selling out, but I def don't see it plummeting in price. There is a decent amount of hype arpund this game.

And I also second the notion of supporting them early to encourage them bringing more Yakuza out West (Yakuza 5 has never had a physical release, plus all the Samurai-era ones have never been released in the West)

well seeing how they had a data breach not sure if i would order from them, also hopefully a regular edition is announced and that it will be on other platforms, they said more games announced soon but i would like to at least know the total number on the cart

 
I just got the Wolfenstein two: The New Colossus CE at Gamestop for $34.99. Can't remember if it wad posted on this thread or the GS one, but thanks OP, regardless.

Just about everyone has had a data breach in the past, Amazon included (several times). As long as your credit card has decent fraud protection (most if not all do) then you should be protected financially.
