whilst VR looks interesting going to hold off on the first generation of this stuff, wait for it to have more software and all the bugs figured out

 
If it has a good game collection and is compatible with some stuff I already own, I'd buy it for that price. I'd love to see VR for games like GTA, and Final Fantasy XIV.

I already have a PS Camera (Pretty sure I got it on clearance somewhere for like $20), also still have all the shit from the PS3 Move bundles as well.

 
I want to buy it but at $400 I'm just scared it will turn out to be another PlayStation move...and im concerned that's too much money to take that risk.
 
Yeah, I'm not sure who is going to pay $400 for a gimmick.  We'll see where we're at in a few years and how much support each one gets.  There are so many VR devices coming out that someone is going to have to win the battle decisively to make it a worthwhile investment. 

 
They could also all get behind a project like OSVR to increase the potential user pool while reducing cost of entry...

But platform developers are too exclusive-minded for that to ever happen.

With how large the PS4 install base is, if only 5% of users worldwide buy one you're still talking a million or two. Not sure how anyone can call it a gimmick without trying it. Looks like it's going to get support; when Kinect v2 came out you already knew it wasn't getting any or at least not much.

Not bad reasoning but Kinect sold like hotcakes and totally crashed and burned. It's the most successful externally sold accessory of all time.

Also have to factor in psvr won't require anything to run but a ps4. So 400 plus a camera is all you need. Pc requires a 600+ dollar unit and a computer powerful enough to run it, which for many means an upgrade on top of the 600 bucks. Then you have the ease of plugging it, and playing games, that's pretty much it since VR ready games will be on a ps4 disc or the ps store, a closed ended system makes it simple for new comers.

And how is he "new to periphals"? He just said ps4 sold a lot and if even a small percentage bought one that's still millions sold, and that you shouldn't knock it till you try it.

I think psvr will be the middle class of VR with occulus on top and Samsung gear VR on the bottom. But it will be a great way for anyone to easily and most affordabley try it out. Already have like 30+ million ps4s in people's homes is a good footing.

I'm waiting though for the 2nd Gen of it myself since money is tight and I want the tech to go through its growing pains.
 
the bottom line is games, and over half of the ps vr games are complete shovelware garbage. and im being kind only saying half. ive really only seen maybe half a dozen games that use vr as anything other than a gimmick like all the original wii/motion control garbage. here is a barebones, generic game, but its in VR so we dont have to try!

Peripherals get put out to pasture after their first round of support. Developers aren't interested in making games for 1/20th or even 1/3 the audience when they can make games for everyone. Peripherals don't continue to get support when they aren't profitable. It's a business. (See: Sega 32x, R.O.B., Virtual Boy, PS Move, Kinnect, Wii U Gamepad, GBA linking, VMUs, or every piece of plastic besides systems or controllers that Nintendo has gotten you to buy.)

Half of gamers aren't even going to use VR because it makes them sick. Any amount of VR input lag is going to accentuate that sickness. Most people can barely stand staring at a 3DS with the 3D on for more than 20 minutes. Use your head. VR is the new 3D movie. Or curved television. Yep, that's right. it's a gimmick. It will continue to be around but It will never become the industry standard so you better start getting used to that idea. Go ahead and buy one, great, have fun. I hope you enjoy it immensely.

I don't need people cross-examining my posts because my perspective is perfectly fine, as evidenced by decades of data. Fads come and go. Traditional television console gaming isn't going anywhere. Perhaps ask yourself why nothing has really changed in the last thirty years in regards to how people keep going back to a controller + system for definitive gaming experiences.

Would the cost of a PS4 system plus the PS VR be less than a PC that can use the Vive or Rift?

Edit: checked out the minimum specs and the PCs needed to run them will cost a pretty penny!

When does NISA generally send out preorders?  For some reason even though I have a record of the transaction on Paypal and recorded my order number I never got a receipt or tracking for my Republique Contraband Edition.

Also unrelated, I had an interview with Gaikai (Playstation Now / Remote Play)  about an internship and am now hoping I got it so wish me luck / I just needed to say this somewhere because I'm simultaneously super stressed and excited

NISA will complete all the financial transactions a week or so prior to shipping. This gives people time to fix their payment info in time to get their stuff the same time as everyone else. I got the "payment notification" email on 3/9.

I kind of forget when they usually send stuff out despite ordering games from them a lot. I've never felt it was a problem with them though. They package well and are super reliable. Don't expect it to show up on launch day though.

You will be fine there. Apparently MS is selling both online, with blue at BB and poop at GS. I can't think of any that sold out quickly but the Elite. The others sat around for a few months. The Master Chief one maybe sold out in a couple, but a week will not matter here.

The picture that major nelson posted looked lighter, but the one on best buy makes the colors look similar. However, this blue is metallic I believe whereas the Forza controller is more matte.

Did anyone pick up Senran Kagura on PS4? Im thinking about getting it on amazon since I have prime and can save some money on it buying it within that first 2 weeks for a discount.

Is the game fun? I haven't seen the anime or played any games in the series but I need more games for my PS4 lol.

 
Can anyone attest to the quality of the figure that came with the Deus Ex: Human Revolution PAL Collector's Edition? The packaging is pretty neat.

There's no Prime discount on the digital version of Mankind Divided and the only PC physical release is the CE... I'm tempted to shell out the extra $52.
