For a $200+ CE it sure as heck better have a full sized artbook. That is always my one criteria at that point and it doesn't. Statue doesn't specify the material either so it is likely a cheaper quality too. I agree with Shrike though, doesn't really hurt to preorder it just in case.

Looks like the end of the year is loaded with super expensive CEs, we got FF XV $270, Gears of War 4 $250, Battlefield $220. I'm sure something else will be announced at E3. Maybe this is a new trend.

It's got too much of a "generic soldier" look to it... There's literally nothing special about it. He's not an assassin or some other type of cool sounding character. He isn't wearing any cool armor or a badass space suit, and he's certainly not a beloved gaming icon (ala Nathan Drake, Link or Master Chief).

I'm not sure what more they could have done given the setting, but still. I don't understand who this is for outside of an extreme collector of everything gaming or war enthusiast... Which I'm sure are both niche categories.

They've been trending up for a while. Remember when nearly every CE was $80? Then they crept up to $99, next came the $120-150 range, recently it's been $200 or slightly below and now we're at $200+. There's obviously always been anomalies either direction price wise, but it's as if it's become this meta game with publishers trying to outdo/out price each other.

I'm glad some pubs still go with the tiered route, but not when both tiers have exclusive items. Those are the worst.

Agreed about the character. Given that this is a WWI game, a setting that really hasn't been used that often, I think they could have done something unique like a gas mask (some CEs have done helmets, same idea). Or if they wanted to do a statue, I would have loved to see one of those first gen tanks instead... or even a biplane. Actually, WTF, why didn't they do a biplane?

Also agreed on CE pricing but it seems like a lot of CEs are "selling out" before release (and then showing back up in stock after release). Guess publishers are exploiting the "buy before it sells out" crowd.

Biplane was my original thought, at the very least it's a bit more interesting than "generic soldier holding grenade".

I think part of the problem is people buying up as many as they can to sell on the aftermarket. They're creating artificial demand that then raises the price that the consumer has to spend. This also makes the product seem more valuable to those that buy them solely because they're "rare".

But that's a completely different discussion that's getting too close to the talk that goes on in the amiibo thread.

Well what do you know right out of the blue I just got an email from an Arun of TriForce asking for my current address.... 18 months later will this giant clusterfuck finally be settled?
No offense but where the fuck is my email?! :)

Is Josh still there or do I just call the generic Triforce number?

Josh never picks up his office number (at least for the three times I tried to call him over the last 18 months he didn't). So I just googled the general Triforce customer service number and somebody connected me to James who was the last rep I spoke with directly that disclosed the shipping issue. He was from the Triforce sales department. For me to get contacted out of the blue makes me think James made sure I was followed up on.

I responded with my home address and haven't heard back yet. Looking back at my email again, they also cc'd Mohanraj and Sudish both also from Triforce. Email request was titled "Need a Mailing address"

I would totally get that $80 deluxe edition if it had a steelbook but you are just paying $20 more for some DLC BS and to get it a few days early. EA Access already gets me that.

Honestly, game companies are just in a no win position when it comes to CE's. If they keep them cheap (sub 200), then the collectibles are going to be low in quality and people then compain about that. If they increase the price so they have more money to increase the quality of the collectibles, people complain about the price.

The game is $59.99. Add in a steel book, an art book and a few other smaller collectibles and your already at $90. That just leaves the major collectible (like statues) and only around $100 to produce it. And since they have to hire a company to produce the statue, like Triforce for example, and those companies need to see a profit on actually producing the statue....well, your down to maybe $60 bucks for the statue itself. And again, if they do happen to increase the price like with the new Gears 4 CE, people complain that its too expensive. Even with a $250 CE, your still likely only left with roughly $90 for the statue and anyone who is familair with the statue market knows that just isn't a lot of money to produce a quality statue. So honestly, thier really damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Thats why I pretty much stay away from CE's. IMO, its better to buy your games from game companies, your collectibles from collectibles companies, and art books from publishing companies. Most big game's have separate art books produced anywhats and while they usually cost $30-$40 bucks, they are light years better than the ones included in SE's. I do like Steenbooks, but its just not worth buying an entire CE just for a Steelbook.

Nah just give everything a steelbook, soundtrack, possibly an artbook.  Tack on another $20-70 depending on quality and call it day.

I really liked the cloth maps, like from the days of Ultima IV and such. I wouldn't mind something like that with a Steelbook, a few downloadable extras, and just calling it a day.

Companies make money off statues because they are cheaply made.  That's why every expensive CE has a statue in it; gives it a large margin.   I don't know why people keep buying these shitty statues.  :whee:

if the witcher 3 can have an amazing CE at a good price, I'm sure everybody else can too.
This entirely. Even The Order 1886 did collectors editions right. Both the CE and the PE included amazing high quality statues at a super fair price for each. I wish more of the statues were these high quality ones. Although I'm also okay with the steel/artbook/soundtrack editions for $20 or so more than regular.

There is a reason companies keep charging an insane amount though. It's because they can. People like us are yuppies and buy these CE's with cheaply made crap, and they make a killing. 90% of CE items cost pennies to make most likely. Cheap bracelets, lithographs, soundtracks, etc. But they charge $200+ and people pay, because they are collectors and they gotta have em. Which is fine, people can desire whatever they want, but can't have it both ways. People either stop paying for these things, so companies drop the prices, or continue to pay to enable your collecting habits and watch prices continue to steadily increase.

In two years, I guarantee we'll start having $300 CE's with nothing but a mediocre statue and a steelbook. Then in another two years, $350. Companies will continue to test the limits of their customer base and see what they can get away with, and as long as they continue to sell, that'll never stop.

Same thing with the figure community. The yen exchange rates are going to shit but the prices are still ridiculous when then quality is exactly the same. The fanboys and girls eat it straight up, not to mention that Megahouse is making every damn figure they release an exclusive.

As sad as this fact is. Your 100% right. It's thanks to this is same ideology that has made why digital console gaming is like it is. The reason why every store you see has their own pre-order bonuses. The practices of day 1 dlc & the trend releasing broken games at launch just to patch them at a later date have become so dam abundant. Until their is a massive push back they'll keep lowering that bar of what they can get away with.

Really want that overwatch ce but the statue is so underwhelming. Of all the cool characters they choose the most generic looking one. I also have to buy a new fleshlight as mine just broke last night. It was a custom made Tanya tate one that cost me $250

Yup...

They did that w/ DLC's and Season Pass (GoW 3 being the first one that I remember) as well.

We have an extremely pathetic consumer base bro, get used to shitty products being overpriced in this country.

There hasn't been any talk of this yet, but Uncharted 4 is sporting a 94% meacritic.  The hype is real.

http://www.gamerankings.com/ps4/739573-uncharted-4-a-thiefs-end/index.html

I know a lot of people are on the fence about whether or not to keep their collector's editions.  This would make it the most highly reviewed original PS4 game.  (excluding the remakes of The Last of Us and GTA5)

I know a lot of people are on the fence about whether or not to keep their collector's editions. This would make it the most highly reviewed original PS4 game. (excluding the remakes of The Last of Us and GTA5)
Went to MC a few days ago and saw it was sitting at 94 and was pretty surprised... not by the score, but by the fact that there wasn't a review embargo on it. ND must have known they have a hit on their hands.

Cannot wait...

Got an email that my coin pick up date has changed to today. Weird.
I got a "delay" email for the coin and that the new date is today. Later though I got another email that my in store pick up will be ready by tomorrow and the coin was listed on the email as well. I don't think you'll be able to get the coin early.

Is Best Buy out of the Uncharted 4 pre-order coins?
According to a rep I spoke to via the forums, yes they are. I actually pre-ordered a Libertad copy last Thursday, and no coin was available. Rep told me that due to the low quantity of them and high demand, they were not adding anymore to the orders.

I got a pick up email for the coin on a preorder I cancelled.

And I just got a ship notice for the coin from my shipping order.

Still nothing on the CE itself.

Weird, but maybe I'll get a free coin! :D

Nevermind, only one coin. Pick up email was for something else.:whistle2:/

I'm surprised there hasnt been a Doom unboxing yet
I wonder if it's like a bad movie, where they know it's bad and only screen it to critics the night before release because they don't want to get bombarded with too many bad reviews too early. Hope it's not like that lol.
