FAQ:
  • What is this thread? A massive collection of limited edition games & other attributing items, included with links.
  • Why put it all in one thread? More traffic due to collaborating interests.
  • Why is that important? This keeps the thread popular and doesn't risk a failed CE from falling through the cracks unnoticed.
  • What can be discussed here? Anything relevant to what is posted.
  • Why make another CE compilation when 2017 isn't over yet? Karma.
  • Where are the big pictures? Still here, scroll down. Due to the increased number of CEs, a preface post is needed.
  • When is the Ni No Kuni 2 CE coming out? Not announced. Granted, IF it does, you can bet I will devote an entire page to it.  Announced. Holy jumping pilgrims, no entire page though.
  • What about other CEs that have been announced? Give me a minute. It takes a bit of time to format the title, price, date, & retailer links in correctly.

Legend:
  • (OOS) = Out of Stock
  • CE = Collector's Edition Game
  • Book = Strategy Guide, Art Book, and/or Lore Book
  • SB = Steelbook
  • Anything linked means it exists. If not it hasn't been announced yet.

What the hell? Why is the uk packaging so much better than the US Version? I know we get the artbook in hardcover but that does not mean the packaging has to be this bad.

Nintendo always does UK/European editions better than the US. Assuming a CE even exists at all here.

Man looking at that list, I am even more depressed. I know importing is always a option but it ends up being more expensive, plus region lock on the wii, wii u and 3ds. Thankfully the switch is region free. I wished we could just get the same thing instead all these different versions or no version at all between the three regions.

Yeah, I didn't name all of them, just some I could think of on the top of my head. We did get the Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors Regular CE, but those were Nintendo Store NYC only, so it's not something the majority of people could get

Wii was pretty easy to mod. I bought quite a few imported games for wii. I did buy the CE for fatal frame for Wii U even though I couldn't play it. I haven't really looked into Wii U modding/homebrew or if it had been done.

I wanted to order some import CEs from Amazon. My bank won't allow int'l purchases. So can I just buy for example Amazon credit from Amazon DE and just use it on Amazon DE? Not sure if any other way to order other than getting someone to order for me and pay them, which is a last resort.
The best way to deal with this (other than getting a new credit card) is to have someone buy you an Amazon.de GC in the exact amount you need.

Anyone get a domestic Xenoblade Chronicles 2 shipping notice from anywhere yet?  My preordered copy from Best Buy still hasn't shipped but I wouldn't be surprised if they sent it out today with next day delivery.

Got one from BB yesterday. Assuming it makes it here on Friday, this will be the first time release day delivery has actually been release day delivery for me; I wouldn't be surprised if your order comes Saturday or Monday.

Can't wait to get Xenoblade on Friday, really excited for the artbook as well, the art style has really grown on me after seeing more of the characters and the concept sketches and such.

I'm hoping it has a lot of pages covering the Guest Blades as well.
Seriously thought about buying a Switch yesterday just for this game, kinda like I did w/ Wii U for X2.

I gotta get back to that game ... spent all this time trying to get my first mech, and when I finally did, I stopped playing.

Well, crap....hopefully Jason's wrong about this one

He probably is:

IGN: http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/11/30/xenoblade-chronicles-2-review?page=1

8/10

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a standout RPG that manages to keep its story, combat, and exploration interesting over the course of at least 70 hours of adventure through an impressively varied and rich world. Getting from place to place can be confusing, but outside of that and a multi-hour progression roadblock near the end this is an excellent game full of tough, memorable battles and a positive message.
Destructoid: https://www.destructoid.com/review-xenoblade-chronicles-2-471885.phtml

8/10

To the delight of many, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is less X and more traditional Xenoblade. Although they all have a special place in my library, I appreciate the return to what brought Monolith Soft back into the public eye after a series of portable games.
Current Metacritic score: 85/100

http://www.metacritic.com/game/switch/xenoblade-chronicles-2?ref=hp

Also, Jason Schreier is a Kotaku reviewer who didn't like the first Xenoblade, so it's dumb that he was assigned to review the sequel.

Quite literally my experience with Xenogears way back in the day, which is why I knew I could skip the system and game when WiiU came around.

I'm shocked by how much people liked Xeno X... the world exploration/mech aspects of it were fantastic but the story was one of the most idiotic things I've ever experienced, which is a huge part of any JRPG for me. And I know JRPGs are full of fetch quests by nature but in that game, they felt worse due to the world being huge and farming required.

So few RPGs have a good story/dialgoue if you have any standards.

Who is this guy and why care about his opinion?

Jason Schreier sounds like a disappointing name.
I was wondering the same thing. I would guess he must be known for reviews, but unless his opinion counts more than anyone else's, as stated, why care?
As I mentioned, he's a reviewer for Kotaku, but the fact that he disliked the first Xenoblade Chronicles and was still assigned to XC2 makes his opinion matter even less to me.

Jason Schreier is a reporter, and does a good job with that.  Has no business reviewing games.

XC and XCX were both masterpieces.  If you played those, you know what you're getting.

See, this discussion really points out that the best way to truly get something out of a review is to be familiar with the reviewer. For people that weren't huge on the first Xenoblade, then a reviewer that also wasn't will potentially be more useful to them. One must almost review a reviewer to see if their opinion matters to you haha.

Schreier hated the last two Xenoblades too. I wouldn't put too much stock into his opinion.

He's kind of a bigot too. "the games I hate are terrible. because of x + y + z. just terrible." and "this game I like is incredible. what's wrong with you?" That's his style. He's kinda an old man when it comes to menus, systems, and designs in games too. If it's not intuitive and hand-holding then he doesn't like it; but Final Fantasy gets a free pass of course.

Kotaku reviews are annoying. They are not objective.

and for the record, I actually like both Jason and Kotaku lol.

Edit:

Yup! Well said. He's their token JRPG guy. But like you said, it was dumb they didn't have someone else review it. He is predisposed to hating this game.

I kinda thought of it more like an MMO/MMO-lite and that made it better for me.

The story was fucking stupid and kinda non-existant most of the time, but I loved the exploration and the gameplay.

Yup, that's exactly what it is: An mmo-lite. Like FF12 and many games that came before it. They are all about the battle systems, exploration-based diverse environments, large character rosters, lots of hidden sidequests, and plentiful hidden loot and objectives. I love these types of games. They are not story-based; they do different types of things much better.

"Mmo lite" is a derivative and it has a negative connotation. These games are amazing and deserve better. I want to come up with a solid name for this type of rpg sub-genre.

I recently learned about all the hate Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U got. I personally REALLY enjoyed it. The world was so big and there was so, so much to do. I liked the idea that you had to play 40 hours before getting a mech, and when you did, the gameplay changed. It's like you had to first respect the world before you were given this new powerful tool.

For sure on the story, but I've always been gameplay over story, but I get that others want strong story to go with that. I have to get back into that game ... how the hell do I even start?

Some people gotta have their 'Teenagers Save the World part #964' in their jrpgs.

If I want a story driven game I'll go play Uncharted, Final Fantasy 14, or a crpg like Divinity OS 2.  Or play through a action/shooter campaign like Wolfenstein.

There is no such thing as objectivity in video game reviews. It's like saying someone isn't being objective because they hate pepperoni pizza and like pineapple pizza. People like what they like in games and don't like what they don't like. It's totally subjective and all a matter of taste. I just think people get butt hurt when someone doesn't like the same things they like.

I do agree with him on the fact that most JRPG tropes are tired and really irritating. I can barely play the genre anymore. Used to play every JRPG on the market and now I'm lucky to get through 10% of them. It has become such a tired, repetitive genre IMO. I think I'd probably like the gameplay of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but I already know I'll likely hate the story and characters. Can't remember the last time I didn't find a JRPG character annoying.

You might just need to take a break for a bit so it's less obnoxious. When it's a change of pace from ultra he-man american tropes it's a bit less taxing.

I actually have. I plan to play no more than 1-2 a year now and have begun selling off a large portion of my collection. Basically 99% of anything I own that is NIS or XSEED is gone, most of the niche JRPG smaller titles are gone, and I'm only going to target specific series anymore. I've even grown tired of Tales, which used to be my favorite, but after beating Berseria, once I got through it, it was just such a chore and I found every character in it painfully annoying.

That stuff happens, at least you are being honest with yourself instead of like most gamers who just get pissed off things don't evoke the same emotions anymore and bitch out every game online. Never know, you may come back to it or you may just be moving into a new phase.

I'm far more into WRPGs now. I think the quality of them has skyrocketed over the last 10 years. I prefer the darker and more mature themes. The serious nature of them. JRPGs always sneaking in the "cute and jokey" tropes has worn thin on me. I get that's part of the Japanese culture and all, but I've grown tired of it in almost every game. I can really appreciate a game that isn't afraid to be really serious and mature all the time. The openness and customization in WRPGs I find more appealing, and also less grinding. That may be the thing that has turned me off JRPGs most. Not only the grinding, but the overly complex battle systems that take way too much time to learn or master. These days I just want to pick up a game, play it, and not have to worry about all of that nonsense. WRPGs cater to me much more in that regard.

Also, I've really gotten into puzzle games and indie games lately. So I think in general my tastes are definitely changing. Looking back I honestly don't know how I did it. I used to just bang out one JRPG after the next. And all of them had the same cliched stories, same teenager heroes, same basic gameplay elements, same fetch quests, same anime-style presentation and cliches, etc. But if other people love em, go for it.

Some people gotta have their 'Teenagers Save the World part #964' in their jrpgs.

If I want a story driven game I'll go play Uncharted, Final Fantasy 14, or a crpg like Divinity OS 2. Or play through a action/shooter campaign like Wolfenstein.
RPG stories are often cliche'd or generic, that doesn't bother me. I'm not saying the story had to be an original masterpiece in RPGs, but something to keep things going between all the mindless stuff... but holy shit, the story in that game was just so fucking dumb.

You're missing the point. The point is that subjective reviews are pointless and stupid, as you point out with the examples used in your post. e.g. favorite pizza? We all have our own opinions. In my case, the word 'objective' was used to denote the 'opposition to subjective reviews'.

There are plenty of descriptions that you can be objective about while reviewing a video game. Such as: how sophisticated are the graphics? How well does the game run, technically? How well-composed is the music? How strong is the narrative? How good are the controls and the sense of immersion? How strong is the multiplayer? Is it a 'complete' game? Considering its substance, does it feel like good value for its msrp? How does the game's system compare to other games in the same genre? How much polish does the final version have? Descriptive answers to these questions all align much closer to the objective side of things.

Reviews should absolutely be objective (in the generic sense). This isn't an argument over semantics; I understand that video game reviews can't be 'objective' in the literal sense. I've always found Kotaku's review system, and their smarmy, hipster take on standard reviews to be absurd. They can't even be bothered to recommend games (or not) in their reviews anymore, which in itself was laughable to an extent that for years they reviewed video games in binary: with a + or - you should, or shouldn't, play it. As if the worth of all games exist in binary. Now their reviews are nothing more than diary entries or a few paragraphs of a blog which is not helpful in the least, unless you know and care about that particular reviewer. Their new release reviews are no different from any of the other blogs posted daily to their website. Which I read for fun, but not when I'm looking for a video game review.

Sure, giving a game an arbitrary 8 out of 10 for graphics is subjective. But then going on to explain how you unbiasedly arrived at that conclusion, is not.

I personally felt Xenoblade X was one of the most disappointing games for me. I could not get into it and it just wasn't the same like the first game for some reason.  I think part of it is because I hate having a generic main character you have to create.  I loved the first game and put in a 100 hours on that.  Since 2 is a numbered in the series, I am having more hope.

With that said, my CE shipped this morning from Best Buy.  Although it is odd that my regular version (used Visa checkout, so didn't want to cancel) didn't ship yet.

I really enjoyed crafting perfect min/max equipment for both squads and Skells in XCX. The MP was really fun too. Anyway, I'm looking forward to XC2. :)

The thing is, I haven't read many reviews where, say, someone was talking about Uncharted 4 or something and said "This game has really poor graphics and visuals" or reviewed Bayonetta and said "This is a very dull and slow game with no action" and were lacking objectivity like that. Probably because they wouldn't be taken seriously and it's the last thing those people would ever review for a serious publication or website.

Not saying they don't exist, I just haven't seen them.

I haven't really come across any reviewers I haven't found objective. I've found many I've disagreed with, but not really I would say they are saying things completely off base. Usually, people who lack objectivity have a personal agenda against what they are analyzing, and it's hard to have a personal agenda against something like a video game. Usually it's against people, because personal emotions are involved.

I agree with this most. Really, it doesn't make sense to read just one or two reviews from someone whose taste you don't know these days. Even reviewers I personally trust and like I don't trust to review *everything* to my taste. And even something objective like pointing out bugs is going to have to go against your own opinion of how much that matters to you.

Read the reviews. If they list a reason for their negative thoughts review it. If you have the same predispositions then you may not enjoy it. If you do not then you may enjoy it. It is not the responsibility of a reviewer to like every game that is well-received by the gaming community. Getting butt hurt when they don’t like your game is not evidence of a bad review just evidence of a bad understanding of variance in opinion.

A real negative review makes me much more likely to delve into something. We’ve created a society in which every piece of coprolalia gets a few hundred fake positive reviews on release- the most compassionate and polar reviews hold more value.

My CE still hasn't shipped yet. :( Pre-ordered way back on Sept 13 too. Somehow I have the feeling their "Get it by Fri Dec 1" on the order is a flat out lie. They are going to get an earful.

I loved XCX as well. The story might not have been a masterpiece and forced you to take along 2/3 party members too often, but it still had a very memorable surprise at the end of
Chapter 5 when your arm gets blown off and you find out you're in a machine body
. Overcoming the weaker story for me, it was also a lot of fun to play. The sense of scale from being on foot, to being in your skell to when you could fly in your skell was great. The music was awesome too.

Can't wait to start XC2 as soon as a I get it and I hope it's even better than XC & XCX, but I want XCX2 even more =)
