I like the idea of having a Western style character, but it seems like they are making him way too macho/Chuck Norris-esque to be taken seriously. I'm sure he'll belt out a loud Yeeeee-haw! when you get headshots and make obscure farmer jokes/metaphors when you get a kill with him.

Tai Kaliso looks Samoan, and his name is somewhat of the same attribute. He needs more chicken bone necklaces, though; possibly a nose piercing.

Quick details
  • When a reader submitted question asked about a 4-player co-op possibility, Cliff Bleszinski only reiterated the "Bigger, Better and more Badass" mantra behind Gears of War 2.
  • There will be a screenshot capture in Gears of War 2 which will allow players to upload the images they take to a website and vote on submitted images.
  • The photo-mode scores you in-game based on the action around you (think, Dead Rising).
  • During the playtest, EGM spotted an Xbox LIVE status message that said someone at Epic was in Gears of War 2 watching a video--not playing a game. Saved film possibility?
  • Epic is considering implementing a live onscreen ticker that displays how much damage you are dealing and how many points you earn per match.
  • Gears of War 2 may offer A.I. bots for multiplayer to help fill the new 10-man limit.
  • The dev team calls chainsaw kills from behind, "Chainsodomy"
On the Subject of Weapons
  • "Gorgon Burst Pistol" is the official name of one of the newest weapons. The double-clipped handheld has a high rate of fire and shoots in short bursts for an extra punch while hiding behind a shield--meat or otherwise.
  • "Scorcher" flamethrower detail: Power weapon, only appears once on a map (similar to the Boom Shot). Short burst weapon, perfect active reload increases its range.
  • "Boltok Pistol" detail: Perfect active reload allows the old pistol to fire much faster.
  • Epic says plenty of more weapons are on the way, including new additions to the superweapons class (alongside the Hammer of Dawn) which EGM speculates could include a mortar type of weapon.
Got an enemy down? Attack! (Slightly different from the original article in X360)
  • 'X' button: Curb Stomp -- The original curb stomp kill returns
  • 'Y' button: Execution -- Longer to execute, so riskier, the executions are a sight. Race, and sometimes weapon, specific kills that promise to earn the expected 'M' rating. COG soldiers will punch an enemy to death, Locusts will rip off arms and beat an enemy with them and in the example for a Torque Bow specific kill the attacker will take the victim's head and place it on a Torque Bow's blade tip, then use his foot to pop it off. Wiiiiiiicked.
  • 'A' button: Grab -- Take a downed enemy and use them as a human shield. Considered dead as soon as it happens, the shield can actually respawn (if it's allowed in that mode) and their body can take quite a bit of damage before disintegrating. The 'B' button ends the encounter with a neck-snap.
  • 'B' button: Melee -- End it quickly and without all the flash.
Got knocked down? Oh noes! Defend Yo' Self!
  • 'R' Trigger: With Grenade Equipped -- Martyrdom
    Had a frag grenade equipped when you got cut down? Wait for an enemy to approach for a killing move (listed above) and make them pay. Press the 'R' Trigger to detonate your frag and send you both into oblivion in a wet, gooey mess.
  • 'R' Trigger: Without Grenade Equipped -- Raise your hand and request assistance from your squad. Doing so will flash your 'man down' icon for friends to spot.
  • 'A' button: Crawl -- Crawl to safety as you bleed out. Your dragging body will leave a trail behind you and you will eventually die, unless someone comes to revive you ... which we hope still doesn't look like a firm pat on the back.

Anyway, new info is great. Defending yourself while your down is fucking sweet. I'm tired of sitting there tapping A while no one helps me.
 
Just watched the video. So excited. I'm sorta sad he mentioned they're only remaking Subway and Gridlock from the original. I'd love to see Canals again and then improve a few other maps like Rooftops, but, hopefully the new maps will have the same likeability. Sweet stuff in that video though.
 
I also would have loved Canals...one of my favs for sure.

Great video...lots of good info...10 new maps "at least" packaged in!!!! The new gametypes sound awesome, game is looks better than before, 5v5, matchmaking party system. Is it November yet?

I think everyone is... Epic just can't make a compelling single player story for ANY game. But they sure as hell know their multiplayer.
 
This game is going to rock, I played the crap out of Gow, and met must people on my friends list from their.....I have over 12,000 kills, played alot

I actually enjoyed the campaign in Gears. Probably just the dialogue that made it great.
 
OMFG. I love this game already.

In the second video, two guys get in a chainsaw duel and a teammate runs up and chainsaws the opponent to save his teammate.

Oh, I guessed I missed that. Too busy watching the gameplay rather than listening. Heh.

The environment affecting the map, eh, I hope it works well. Didn't work that well with Bullet Marsh and the lights or Garden and the greenhouses.

Did anyone see the one clip in the interview where someone threw a grenade and it stuck onto someone? I hope that doesn't turn into a trend/easy kill..

Yeah, check out the video...Cliff states that he regrets not having it on the first, and its already in place on GoW2.

I am almost 100 percent sure it wont be delayed. This is MS's ace in the hole this holiday season.
 
Party system was confirmed almost a year and a half ago. Tim Sweeney told 1up.com last January that they realized right after release that they should have included it. No way they were not going to include it in this one.

The 1up video confirms that the Seriously achievement returns as well (Cliffy B mentions have a list of all the types of kills you have and where you stand with regards to achievements, and he specifically mentions the Seriously achievement).

Hopefully it is not broken, because with 5 on 5 play, it could be a bit faster to get. I wonder how they will handle it with "Guardian" and its respawning.

ic well its still going to sell a shat load we I would say 80 percent of 360 owners will get it. This game will win best shooter, that's if MGS4 can stand the test of time.

When I saw the video with CliffyB mentioning that it made me quite angry! :bomb:

Way to put in a dumb achievement and mess up the fun of online games! The measures they are taking to prevent boosting are also quite dumb. I say that if there is that much of a problem with online achievements then just get rid of them! For every game!
 
Anyone else find the animation for picking up a guy (holding him hostage/meat shield) super cheesy and bad? It's way to fast and there is no weight behind it, the dude on the floor kind of just floats up to the attacker.

Do you ahve to shoot the nade for it to blow up or does someone touching it trigger it? I haven't figured that out yet.

They said in the video that it is like a proximity mine......it'll go off by itself.
