Official Mass Effect: Andromeda Discussion (Hype/Speculation/Anticipation)

I picked up my Target Funco, no issues, was the right one.  I also have one on the way from Target.com as it was too late to cancel the order before it went into the shipping process.  So, if someone can't find one in-store or online, let me know and we'll get it figured out.

For strike teams, I have one level 6 and one level 4 and they're winning some and losing some.  I have enough credits to pick up a couple weapons, though I need to go figure out what I might need.

My strike teams are doing well.  Both at level 8.  One has Kett insanity after getting their Turian asses kicked hard, ha ha!  I'm starting to take on silver missions and they're coming home successful.

In multiplayer I used one of the 50% extra XP boosters, rocked the match and got top with like 15000 points as the end game report went to load up the server disconnected and launched be back to the main menu of Andromeda. I went back to multiplayer and that game did not register because my character was at the same level as before.. but of course I am missing the 50% XP Booster. WTF. Ugh.

Well, I spent about 6 hours playing the full game, made it off of Hab7 and to the Nexus. Playing it on Hardcore, the combat had kicked me ass in a few instances, though it's because I was good old level 1 or 2.

Now that I've been in the real game and not the trial, I will have to say it does have a "DA: I wearing Mass Effect covering" feel to it.
Yeah I opted to play on Insanity for my first run, and I'm getting straight wrecked. But I'm stubborn so I won't change the difficulty. The difficulty of ME: A pulls no punches.

Amazon refunded me $5 and change for the shipping debacle, got a notification of it on my phone. It will be arriving today now. I actually didn't call in because I knew it was weather related and was gonna let. that. one. sliiiiddee. *badum tish

Finished up Eos on my Sara/XB1 play through last night, really solid planet.

Started up Scott on PS4 and got to the Tempest, went much faster than I expected. Also got 3 of the combat trophies already out of the way which is great so I can focus on the skills I want now.

I'm saving Insanity for a NG+ run, since at Hardcore, it's kicking my ass enough that Insanity would get a controller tossed.

I have to pick up the Tempest and then I'm off that direction.

I got a whole mess of ME-themed care packages in the mail yesterday: artbook, Nexus Uprising novel, Peebee figure, physical copy of the game, and Best Buy steelbook. Still to come: adult coloring book. :)

Yesterday, I had BB SB (x2) show up (thankfully in boxes), one each of PS4 + XB1 Dlx physical copies (one going back because I had to order 2 for Visa Checkout discount, plus it would only add one SB to one copy per order) and both Nomad models. Art book showed up Monday. My Target Pebee figured I picked up yesterday, though I also have one on the way that was a backup order for my in-store pickup order going possibly south.

I have the Kindle book that showed up yesterday as well, I may shelve reading HP & The Deathly Hallows to start reading that book. I also have the regular CE guide on the way, with the CE artbook waiting to ship from the Bioware store, as well as the Pathfinder guide set, though I think that doesn't ship until next week. Mini diecast Nomad is still showing no release date yet.

Yeah, my game & SB came today too! Now off to read through the Codecs, as I didn't read anything in my trial time lol.

Wait, you're supposed to get one steelbook per order? Never got one for my PS4 copy that I preordered before the promo was added. Did get one for my XB1 deluxe version that I did in the last Visa checkout deal after the steelbook was announced.

If you add in a second copy on the same order, it didn't add in a second SB, even if it was a different platform.

I had to order 1x PS4 and 1x XB1 on a single order to get the $100 Visa Checkout discount and the SB would be "attached" to the first item that was added into the order. So I did one order with 1x PS4 and 1x XB1, with the SB being "attached" to the PS4 copy. I then did the reverse with 1x XB1 and 1x PS4, with the SB being "attached" to the XB1 copy.

So, when both orders show up, I'll need to return the XB1 copy from the first order and the PS4 copy from the second order and not take the $10/$20 hit for returning the game with the "attached" SB. Not sure if that was how it was supposed to work, though that's what I figured out on my own.

If you did two separate orders, you should have had a copy per order.

Yeah, they were on 2 separate orders. Guess I'll have to post on the forums and see if they fix it. Not too worried though, happy with the one steelbook especially since it came undamaged.

Okay, this is driving me nuts, because I can't find anything about it. Maybe I'm not far enough in the main game (busy life this week), which would make this obvious.

What the heck do the orange icons on some of the missions in Apex HQ mean? I have two with an upwards pointing triple orange arrow.

^ Those are APEX missions, doable by multiplayer match or also by sending your ST out on them.

So It only took me 2 hours to catch up on all my unlocked Codex entries lol.

Yeah I inputted in the code to unlock the Deluxe goodies but I guess that doesn't somatically download them. I was confused and got pissed of when I tried to select a non-selectable terminal where you Access those things, which I had already done from the trial. Also how come I don't see my Pathfinder Henley from those briefings we did (6/6).

Yeah I had to quit and restart the game to get my DLC items. I don't have the 6/6 briefings helmet either...

^ Yeah that did it, I saved, shut down the Xbox, waited a bit, turned back on and when I went back into the game I was able to get everything. The Pathfinder helmet is an Elite Helmet btw.

I might be dumb, but I'm having a heck of a time figuring out where or how to equip different armor.

I spent a lot of time exploring the Hyperion, Nexus and Tempest today. It definitely brought that ME1 vibe and I loved it. And.....Model collecting! I love those little details.

Did you guys get your pet space monkey??

Seriously, god damn idiot reviewers reviewing this game like it's Mass Effect 4, it's not. It's Mass Effect: Andromeda and yeah it ME1 vibey but in a new Galaxy with the series' improvements. Kinda like Zelda: Breath of the WIld feels like the original Zelda, eh whatever.

Lol, yeah I just got the Pyjak, you have to activate (acknowledge) the order through your email first, I saw about it on this video.

It took me like 2 minutes to collect all the Strike Team rewards lol, a bit laggy on that screen too - maybe they'll patch that later too.

Does Best Buy have some spare steelbook left? My came all crushed in a bubblemailer.
Call the main CS line, you might luck out. If not, the you should call the corp office @ 612-291-1000 and ask to speak with executive customer relations. They're the Tier 2 reps that can actually get stuff done when the main CS reps are stepping all over themselves and not able to do anything to fix an issue.

Is it just me, or are the squadmates ridiculously weak in the early stages of the game? In every one of my fights, Vetra and Cora are getting straight bodied. I have to finish the fights on my own using cloaking and hit-and-run tactics.

Is it something I'm doing wrong? Should I be tinkering with their individual talents to make them stronger versions of themselves or does the game do that already?

If you haven't been upgrading their skills, you should. Check on their skills and make sure they've been upgraded. Also, if you have Pathfinder weapons you won't use, give what you're not using to squadmates. Also, you should be running strike teams non-stop in the APEX HQ app, as you can collect items to use in-game. I think my strike teams have collected 3 or 4 weapons to use, with one of them being the Mattock, which was my go-to assault rifle in ME2.

I have two strike teams, one at Level 8 (Hostage Rescue Specialist (+10) / Low On Supplies (-5) + Corruptible (-10)) and one at Level 13 (Skirmisher (+5) + Precise (+10) / Kett Hysteria (-10)) and I've been running them non-stop since release day.

You know I was gonna play Mass Effect and I ended up playing 2 straight hours of Rocket League (the new Dropshot mode) lol. That and sending my ST out. I've run out of Bronze missions and Silver is hit or miss at this point (although more hit but I don't like failure).

Okay, I feel outright stupid because I have put 10 hours or so into the game and for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to equip specific weapons on my squadmates. I can update skill trees, but I do not know how to change their weapons. Until I read this, I had given up and assumed that their weapons must just be standard like their outfits.

I think that's correct; you can't change squadmates' weapons. Or if you can, it's news to me.

20 hours in and... Yikes, there is SO much to do in this game! You can't take two steps without picking up a new sidequest, a squadmate wanting to talk, etc. It's nice to have so much choice but at times it almost feels overwhelming... I'm landed on a new planet, do I proceed straight to the main story quest first, work on a squadmate loyalty questline that happens to be nearby, or explore randomly? All in all it feels MUCH more like Mass Effect 1, especially places like Noveria, than a corridor cover-shooter like ME2 or 3. Sometimes this game feels like a lost sequel to ME1 that could have happened if ME2 had never taken the series in a different direction.

Combat feels good, but... loose? Cover almost feels like an afterthought in some fights, while you're zipping around in every direction with the jumpjets. I like it, but also something feels lost compared to the tight, strategic spaces of ME2. The enemies can be pretty tough, even playing on Normal, and oh boy do they love to rush your position, just like in ME3. Firing off powers and combos feels as great as it ever has. I think I may still need a little bit of time to get used to how much faster combat is now compared to 3.

Animation and lip syncing could definitely have used more polish. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it's noticeably bad. It's certainly barely improved from the 360 games, if at all, which is a bit disappointing since it's been 5 years and a console generation since then. It's not tanking my enjoyment of the game or anything but it would have been nice if they could have reached a more consistent level of quality.

The story... well, I like it. Everything is just very Mass Effect. I love that on the surface everyone is talking about the bright new start in Andromeda, but underneath, the same political battles are playing out and Milky Way history is repeating itself. Walking around a place like the Nexus and exhausting everyone's dialogue trees learning the lore of the place just nails that Mass Effect feeling. It does seem like Ryder has limited personality choices compared to Shepard; you can't really be much of a jerk with him! It's more of a choice between funny/casual and by-the-book professional in most conversations. In some cases I would like the option to insult someone or tell them off but Ryder is rarely able to do that.

I like the squadmates. So far Cora, Drack, and Jaal are favorites. Liam is the only one I haven't connected with much so far-- I think the curse of every game having one bland human dude has struck again unfortunately. The amount of dialogue they have and the range of specific circumstances they can respond to is awesome. I was taken aback yesterday when Cora, who I'm pursuing a romance with, expressed concern that I was flirting with Peebee too much! Guilty as charged Cora! I guess I need to be careful what I say because word gets around the ship. :) I also really like Kallo Jath, it's always great to have a salarian on board.

All in all I'm still glued to the game and I probably will be until I 1000/1000 it and beyond. :) There are some things about it that I wish they had done better, and sometimes I miss the more focused, linear experience of ME2 and 3 compared to the more ME1-style openness of this game.

You can run them non-stop? I read somewhere that there's usually only a few missions each day that is comparable to your squad's level. I haven't been using the app, but in the game, each day there is only one or two missions where my success rate is 70+%. The other available mission are at 5%. Is that different on the app? Or should I still be sending my forces out even at such low success rates?

Yeah, I'm kinda not feeling the combat so far. Will take time I think; still getting a feel for weapons and abilities. Unless I missed how to do it -- I'm also not a fan of not being able to manually take cover or at least crouch. I have to stand next to something and wait for my guy to use it as cover while I'm taking fire. It's either that, or boost around the map like a kid who's had too much sugar. Lol.

Non-stop being repeatedly and often in this case. I've been exhausting the bronze and silver missions as they've been coming up and right now I have only three gold missions left. My Level 9 and Level 14 squads have low chances with those, so I've been staying away from the gold missions, though I may send one out just to try it.

I have noticed about the mission specifics, such as Kett, or Bribery, to which I'd not want to send my team that has Kett Hysteria to one of the Kett missions, since it lowers their chances. My level 14 team has a 25% chance against one of the gold missions, so I thought to give it a try. Might be a surprise.

I just took this shot actually, went with default Scott Ryder, didn't want to mess around while doing the trial. I'll generate a new character for my next playthrough though.

Just changed up my skills and unlocked Infiltrator, running with mostly Soldier but just a little Tech to combat those pesky shields. So lol zap their shields with Tech Powers, then finish them off with Soldier powers.

Yeah I did a few multiplayer missions today, just bronze. Got the tutorial done so that's 100%, didn't know doing the tutorial was a thing for a 0 GS achievement while in the trial. Missed that. The tutorial was super basic, I mean I was bored out of my mind doing that lol.

S.O.S.!!  I went to play some campaign after a few hours of MP and it's giving me an error, saying that this save file was created with the full version of the game and cannot be accessed with the trial.  I still have/had 3 hours left on the trial, but have been playing the full game all week.  WTH is this?  Anybody have any idea what to do?

7 hours in - and I love this game. Only on Eos. Having a good time, taking it slow. Killing, scanning, exploring.

My Sara Ryder kinda looks like LeeLoo from The Fifth Element movie (orange hair.)

To me, this game is wonderful.

Finally made it to Eos.  Spent like an hour+ just wandering about the Tempest, talking and flirting with everyone on the ship.   Playing a female Ryder and the responses from both Liam and Cora that they're strictly dickly was quite amusing.

Weird, only thing I can say is look/ask on the EA boards on the issue. I had the opposite, my save file was created with the trial and then accessed with the full game, I'm pretty sure that's how it's supposed to go lol.

So I'm about 12 hours in or so and I just grabbed the Foothold achievement. Man, that was cool.

That Moment

https://1drv.ms/i/s!AoF1SXaUWFO9lSAtoeJAYLcq_qPE

as I stand on that hill, it dawned on me, this is the first of many but it's still the very first outpost in a new galaxy! Very cool moment.

So what's everyone's thoughts about augmentations. I'm lol thinking why should I waste a rare augmentation on a basic research item but then again I'm like I gotta use what I've got.

That and I have a bunch of items already and I'm close to having a full inventory.

I've accumulated enough missions and mission points to start buying equipment for my STs, just got All Weather Gear for my best ST.

Loving the hell out of this game.

Also a little reading on the animation algorithm/sequencing over mo-cap theory from an ex-Bioware animatior.

http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/news/a824341/mass-effect-andromeda-facial-animation-explained-bioware-animator/

That would explain why people say that it's good a lot of time but a few times all of a sudden something feels off - although I've only noticed it once tbh. It's the catch 22 with having 1200 talking NPCs in your world! As someone who's dabbled with animation I can see what he's talking about and it would be extremely hard to do the animations for so many characters.

For some reason last night it recognized me playing as the trial, so I stayed in the mp lobby and let the trial run out. Uninstalled the game, installed from the disc and everything is fine now.

Yeah I've been jumping on with some bronze matches and trying to level up all my level 1 characters about daily but yeah I want to do campaign mostly.

need more friends for this addictive multiplayer grind, please send help :)
Sorry Solo and I bailed just as you and Duco were coming in. I'm definitely up for MP! I'm recruiting some of the Destiny gang from Dads of Destiny that I used to raid with. And where the heck are Broly and Linkin Prime? Those guys should be up for some of this MP too.

I'm about 16 hours in, and the game says 17% done! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

This is out already, news to me. Anyone grab it?

Lol oh I had already done it when I sent my ST after the mission from the APEX HQ app. Replayed it tonight, had a good crew, and finished although the game said you already got the rewards for the mission. I went in with my lvl1 Krogan Engie.

Oh man, everyone's here. I've been trying out the multi on PC for the past few days and had flashbacks to the good times of the ME3 topic. Hope everyone's doing well!

Edit: Dawned on me that I probably changed names by now. I think I was IanKazimer back then.
