Be aware that not all Sears are alike, so prices are definitely YMMV.
List
  • date = date posted or updated
  • cp = current price
  • opp = old posted price
  • (oos) = out of system
  • * = posted at different prices (more than twice, most are)
Colors
  • white = current update
  • dark gray = old (ie. out of stock items)
if the prices are not updated in over a month, it will be colored as dark gray.

notes:
  • Don't turn this into your own trade list. Don't ask people if they want to trade X game for your Y game. PM is the best way to ask. Do your trading on the Sears Trade Thread.
  • Print UPC-A barcodes if you're having a hard time getting someone to open the cases for you. If you need UPCs refer to Half.com (just type the name of the game) or to io's kmart clearance thread. Go to either UPCDatabase.com or Barcodesinc.com to generate a UPC A barcode.
  • If you bring up a game and the employee scans it and does not show up in the system, it is most likely that the item has been pulled out of their inventory (most of us would call it 'out of system'). What this means is that the item must be returned to the manufacturer (so they were told anyways, but i don't believe it..). You can try to get them to sell it to you for the stickered price shown or maybe lower. It depends on the employee or manager.
  • Some of you are confused as to why some games are priced and rung up at retail prices but its listed below as clearanced at their respective clearance prices. Heres a good example:
    • 100607 ... 01.97 ... 09.97 ... Dead or Alive 4 (Non PH) *
    • ^^^^^ notice how the last reported price was October 6, 2007. The Platinum Hits version was also on clearance since it shared the Regular version's barcode. But they put the price back up in retail a few months later. Hence you still see the game now as retail instead of clearance.

I say that they have no legal right to hold me unless they're willing to charge me with a crime, and I know my rights; if they don't release me immediately, i'm going to charge them with kidnapping. The only reason I tried to keep things amicable to this point is because I know i'm innocent, and I don't want to get banned from this sears. They finally let me, escorting me out the store, but say that I'm not allowed to come back. what a bunch of fuckheads.[/quote]

Joe,

I've worked in Loss Prevention for years and this is career ending behavior for everyone involved. You have a very good case for suing the store for defamation of character and unlawful imprisonment. If you're not interested in contacting a lawyer, you can still come out ahead. Call the store and get the name of the district manager. Contact the DM ASAP and let him know exactly what happened. Let the DM know that you are considering getting an attorney and suing the company and each individual involved. Most retailers would rather give you a hefty giftcard (~$500) rather than be sued. Oh, and make sure you tell the DM you want each and every person involved fired. This was amateur hour for everyone involved and a total disgrace for the folks trying to do their jobs.

One hour? I can't stand being there for more than 30 minutes. There's just something about that store that pisses me off. If it weren't for the cheap games, I would never go in there.

I actually am an attorney and I was thinking virtually the same thing. I probably would have called the police myself and asked them to conduct the search and review the tape. That way, the incident report was initiated by me and it's done by a non-biased party. It would also prohibit the store from erasing/losing the tape if the video didn't show what they wanted it to show. Additionally, at the end of the police search, I would've informed the officer that I wanted to file charges. Basically, I would've allowed the same thing to happen but I would not have allowed it to be conducted on their terms.

EDIT: Also remember that there is a difference between suing and filing charges against someone. That is, filing the charges for false imprisonment would make you the plaintiff in municipal court (most likely). Suing someone is an actual lawsuit where you seek monetary damages. That said, almost every municipal court is bound to have some form of community dispute resolution stage (mediation) where sears could offer you a written apology and a nice gift card as a means of resolving the matter.

We do have great clearance deals, though (when the hoarders haven't eaten them already)!

I called corporate. I'm going to meet one of their reps and possibly a DM. They're taking it very seriously after I described what happened, because they thought the whole situation was absurd.

Shopkeeper's privilege. They can detain you if they reasonably suspect you of theft. There's almost a presumption of theft when an item, usually sealed, is unsealed and the customer has the case open.

That being said, I'd still threaten a civil suit. I hope that it works out, because that really is egregious behavior... I am glad the District seems to be taking is seriously, even though they are probably just doing a race-check before committing to anything... nothing is worse for a struggling company than a civil rights suit with the economic downturn. Especially since Sears is one of about 5 major chains to have a 7 figure verdict against them (appealed and settled, of course) for a violation of civil rights base on race.

the sears i work at has this cart with clearance games .87 cents to 19.99 and i would say every week i go to work we find like 5-10 games slit open and stolen.

i really do not know how this company will last with this lack of care. you should sue for them blaming that you stole the game. they cannot just pull you out like that without any valid proof. i wonder if the company notices that there stock went from $100 a share to $39.

eletronics department is crap now because we make commission, but there isnt any stock. horribly ran company. i can tell you that much

people = traffic = would eventually lead to sales.

every major retailer has at least 1 or 2 departments thats either not making any money or they just break even.

another problem with sears is their lack of customer service. whenever i go to sears i never once hear anyone ask me if i needed any help in OTHER areas other than electronics. although i go straight to electronics everytime i go, at least even an acknowledge of Hi or Hello would be nice. lack of proper training is probably the main source of failure.

customer service = sales | sales = profits

True dyeknom (about shopkeeper's privilege) but to my point about pressing charges, while the summons will always read State v. whoever, the complaining witness is allowed to prosecute his/her own case - even if the state (i.e. municipal prosecutor) does not wish to. Said differently, if he pressed charges, Sears has no means of avoiding at least one court appearance without filing a pre-trial motion to dismiss. To both of our points, it's a nuisance claim. They'd pay him something to go away because its cheaper than litigating.

That's exactly what they're going to do. I just agreed not to pursue litigation in exchange for a gift card for both Kmart and Sears. however, I know my contract law and I know that it's not a valid contract, and I can still pursue litigation. I'm not going to do that, however. The DM said that he was probably going to fire the manager in electronics, the employee who started it all, but doesn't handle the LP division. Apparently that kind of work is farmed out to other companies or something. Either that or he just doesn't have the authority.

This wasn't such a bad situation. I'm actually just really irritated that I didn't get to snag Kirby :(

As for the value... well... let's just say it's a lot more than I expected. Don't go thinking you can put yourself in this situation and expect something good to come of it.

It's interesting to see how some Sears I've been to have really good customer service - Pheared mentioned getting standard greetings (which is one of the best LP measures there is), which I always get at a few Sears I go to. Last week, at another Sears, when I asked them to scan Planet Puzzle League the case was open and they didn't give me a second look. I'm not saying they can't be suspicious, but c'mon. It's just stupid.

right when you posted your story i had this thought so what if you saw an empty box for one of their tvs and and does what you pretty much had done with the kirby game could they have done the same thing. but i thought it was just silly and probably would not have made sense to them since the tv is big and it would not fit onto your pockets. but, seeing as though they handled that situation pretty absurdly so who knows.
 
In case it hasn't been mentioned before, the Mortal Kombat Collection(3 MK games in a pack) is $14.97 on clearance now. I don't know if it'll go cheaper this month, but $5 a game for three games isn't too shabby, I think.

Yeah, I mentioned that a couple days ago, but it's a good enough deal to deserve a repost ;) I'm actually taking my chances on waiting for it to go to $4.97 next month (since I already own 2 of the 3 games).
 
Joe you need to get everyone involved fired. I would seriously get a lawyer and go after their asses. What a bunch of dickwads.

See Joe, if I had represented you for it, I would have wanted the gift card and a free copy of that game (the value of which would not be deducted from the card).
 
Regardless, it sounds like Joe got compensated fairly for the total waste of time. If he's satisfied with the situation, no need to press it any further.

As for Sears customer service, I've noticed that too-- the Peabody and Saugus, MA stores are neat and have friendly dudes in electronics, the Cambridge store always has some sad-sack who doesn't want to open the cabinet when I'm bargain hunting. I like the Peabody guys best-- last time I was there and grabbed FEAR for $5, the clerk did a double-take and asked which other games were $5, and I said "DUDE! You can totally get Fantastic Four AND Pirates of the Caribbean!" He rolled his eyes, har. (There are better games at that price of course, but I wasn't gonna tell him that...)

March 5th may be the date of the next clearance markdowns.

I was in Sears tonight and a very helpful employee was scanning games with his hand scanner as I was browsing the dump bin. For a couple of titles he said the price would be $9.97 on 3/5 (one of them being King of Fighters 2006 I believe). Don't expect Final fantasy II (PSP) to drop from $9.97, the scanner did not give an indication of a March markdown for that game.

Any of the Sears employees here, would it be possible to scan all of the clearance games with the hand scanner and report on which ones are scheduled to drop on March 5th? That would be so amazingly helpful! :D

Oh yeah, and I picked up a copy of Pokemon Emerald for $4.97.
 
dreWii or (psp)snake could probably scan them. i hope its alright with them :)

but please, dont reveal the price, just confirm. lets wait til March 5th..

Strange Future Tactics was $0.85, that seems like a different price but I guess $0.49 is also a strange price which it what I saw it for last month.

I don't like to blame Sears as a whole for this. For anyone that's been following the recent success of the company, they just had a major overhaul of management, policy, and structure. They went from being on the verge of bankruptcy and complete liquidation to a total and have posted consistent profits. Great company from an investor's point of view. Given the current climate, it's a bargain.

went to my sears again where I cleared out the good titles... nothing is left now. They have like 70 + games of garbage. Like avatar, or viva pinata... unless those hit .97 cents - 5 dollar range, i wont be buying because no point.

they even know me as "the guy, who bought us out." lol.

I'd say it's solid. Gunpey is good, SuperSwing Golf is fun, and the DDR games are fun and fetch $40 each on ebay...Then there's the DBZ stuff, which if you're a fan of, that's a great catch.

Actually, for the prices that were paid, I consider this a very good, if not great, haul. Just remember, not everyone has the same taste in games. Also, I'm a collector and these are some great prices in order to get a game in the collection that I wouldn't normally think about.
