If it was purchased at retail, then they don't expire. If it was an award or a promotional redemption of some kind, then likely it might expire. You should be able to test the code at https://redeem.microsoft.com/ to see if it's still valid without redeeming it.

It’s a retail, physical card. Think maybe couple years old from when got an Xbox one s think it was but never used and have since sold the system. I did click link (cards at home but just to see). Looks like enter and then will put on my account so not sure unless it’ll verify without having to hit next.

You type in the code and click "Next" and it will take you to a screen that details what the code will redeem as, but unless you hit the "Confirm" button on that second screen you won't use the code.

That being said, since it's a retail code, as long as it hasn't been already redeemed you should be fine.
