Here is the most up to date compiled list of all known guide deals listed and posted for this thread and similar threads. I will update this list as people post new guide deals. Everything listed in this thread “should” be the price listed or lower. These prices are typically company wide price reductions and not YMMV. But just because the prices are typically universal does not mean that they are guaranteed to be sold to you. Most stores have a destroy clause with the guide companies. So whether or not you get these guides depend on many many factors from how diligent a staff is to how reasonable or friendly one is. Good luck on any you may find and good luck on acquiring them. If anything is incorrect or missing please post so corrections can be made.

Now you can just cut, paste, print, and GO!!!

How you can help: You can keep a printed copy of this list in your jacket, wallet, purse whatever and when you go to any store that carries guides look for guides for games that have been out typically around six months or more and ask for a price check or better yet use a store scanner if they are available. If they are anything less than cover price write it down for us. Also please when you post the info here if it looks like it’s a temporary sale, please post that as well otherwise it will be assumed to a be a permanent price reduction. If you scan a guide and it comes up a different price that what the master lists suggests please list the day and store that you had the guide scanned. Also please list if you physically saw a self-scanner’s price, physically saw a cash registers price or vocally heard a price from the store’s staff. This might sound like a lot and of course we will take what we can get but this will go a long way to having the best master list as well as ferreting out different store practices and policy’s. All help is appreciated and thank you.

Trading: I spoke with the post office and found out that the cheapest form of mailing to the 48 contiguous states would be to use “media mail” It will take a little longer but it will also allow the least amount of money per transaction when trying to acquire guides for your collection. For an average guide weight of about 9 oz its $1.42 cents. All you need to do is put it in an envelope and ship it media mail. He mentioned no one should have a problem if you use the same envelope several times to cut down on costs. He also mentioned that when shipping Media mail that you cannot have any personal correspondence in the envelope. Only books and an invoice are acceptable. If trading is in you interest you do whatever is most comfortable for you and your trading party this was merely a FYI and a good way to keep it cheap.

Helpful links to check for reduced priced guides or guides in general. You will likely never find one cent guides here but various discounted guides and possibly some that you have been searching for.

Looking for assistance: I am looking for some staff from Best Buy’s, EB’s, Gamestop’s and stores of the like. When EB Games or Gamestop has a price reduction their shelves can be empty in a day or two to even as little as just a few hours. EB and Gamestop have daily price changes so all depending on the store’s staff they could be all gone almost immediately. If I could get some staff that can either post here first thing any day that they have a price reduction on guides or that might be able to text message me with such price reductions so that I might be able to inform CAG’ers ASAP. Whether or not us the end user would actually be able to get them from a particular stores staff is very much an YMMV but if there is anyone who can help this would greatly increase the chance’s of CAG’ers being able to pick up guides from these locations. If anyone is interested and able to help please e-mail me at [email protected]. Thank you all for your consideration.

Thank you all for making CAG what it is and for all your contributions.

Disclaimer: This list is intended to help all guide hunters. Please feel free to print yourself a copy and get what you can find. Thank you

Master list in post 2

Weird experience today. Went into BB to look for jade empire guide. Cannot find it. Asked a BB employee. she searched in the system and found out that jade empire guides were sent back to the warehouse. Ok, ready to leave and found a few tekken 5 guides on the shelf. That is in the last round of penny-out. I got the last tekken 5 guide from the same store last time. I also got the Jak 3 , resident evil 4 and metal gear acid guides, which was pennied out last round.

I'm still walking into Best Buy's and finding single Tekken 5's. This is like a month after the last round and in stores where all guides on the shelf were gone at one point. The Jak 3 guide is very sought after for trade here for some reason.

I've traded just about every guide I've purchased. I've kept Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes, MGS 3, VJ 2, RE4, Xenosaga II, Jade Empire and Splinter Cell: CT. I've been very fortunate, I've found multiple copies of every guide that's been pennied out the last two rounds.

Hey Floormat... Have you found any of these last few rounds here in town? I pretty much gave up because everytime I went, I got shot down or they were gone. TRU is the worst with the attitude...

I've really only tried BB lately. I got a few from their last one. I don't bother with TRU anymore. Though, I've considered taking some of those guides and hiding them in another part of the store before they pull them. The only other store, besides BB, that I've gotten guides from is the GS at the mall. I don't know about the other GS. The EB at the mall said they don't penny out games. I'm not sure about the other EBs in town.

BTW, has anyone tried the Xenosaga II Limited edition guide at GS or EB? I would really like to pick that up for a penny.

Actually, if you put up a thread in the trading forum for guides, you'd probably get a good number of hits.

This thread dosen't really take off until a new round of penny guides comes out.

I'll even give you a free bump in the trading forum :D

maybe, but we cant have everyone posting their list here.

Pretty much everything is dried up... Lewis at EB in Glenbrook is quick to pull and fairly adament against releasing them. Adam at GS in Glenbrook doensn't really care but his boss does so unless we get a pre release list no luck there.... The lady at EB in jefferson point said she gives them to the employees, thats fine with me they should get first dibs anways. The manager at the lima eb said the same. Jeff Foxworthy at the stelhorn Gamestop is a quick puller as well. BB... here and there just depends. Seen slidcage at jefferson point bb once.

With nothing left in town and less people on this thread with vast store employment makes it harder to maintain this thread.

I can't imagine the last eb and gamestop drop being that samll but then again I have no way to tell. bleh... just frustrated.....

Yeah "The Fort" has more than it's share of pricks, but you'd think there'd be at least a few chances. I try to hit up BB and try GS but usually I get told along the lines of "Tough Shit". This town sucks...

Yea, I really only hit BB and the one GS. I also hear GS is going to stop taking used guides. I saw that on the deal discussion board. One thing I'm starting to do is to use the trading forum more.

last time i seen penny guides was the tekken 5 drop. i Mostly gave up looking for penny guides though i found a Hack part 2 used at the gamestop in the glenbrook mall last week for 1.99

where was the tekken 5 pennied at?

I found at Best Buy: 1-Metroid Prime 2, 1-Star Fox Assault, 1-Splinter Cell 3, and a whole stack of The Urbz and some football game guides stuck up on a counter which I took two of each, near the guy who watches over the doors, put there purposely so people could get them before they were thrown out.

I was very surprised that none of the Best Buy employees gave me any trouble considering the two jack @$$'s I've encountered in the "Customer service" department, they don't even have a sign that says C Service, which figures. In fact, I was even told to just walk out the door with the guides listed above.

And Friday I was able to get a few Star Wars: Republic Commando guides; the cashier called some higher up when they rang for a penny, but because she didn't know if the machine was screwing up or not. The higher up just said something about them just being guides trying to get rid of.

I also noticed that Metroid Prime: Echoes is not on the list.

There's several Urbz and Madden 2005 at the Springfield, VA Best Buy. They are tagged $0.01. I got the last Starfox. At least there's one advantage to my frequent business trips to the DC area. The Best Buy's in the Portland area seem to be getting good about removing their penny guides as soon as they drop so I can never find them there any more. But even 1-2 weeks after they drop, I can usually find them in DC. Still looking for Minish Cap - and I actually have the game WITH me on my DS and need some help with it - the guide would be handy (yeah, yeah, I know about Gamefaqs).

Hey, your CAGing in my area! Yeah, Springfield, VA Best Buy is a great place to get guides, that's where I've gotten most of mine through store pickup.

I also am looking for a Minish Cap guide, I have not even opened the game yet, but I find it handy to have a guide listing secret collectibles and stuff, as I typically don't want to go through an entire adventure again to find them all.

It was so tempting to take like 5 of the Maddens and Urbz, but I restrained myself, as I don't want to blow my luck with the employees there by looking greedy and like a reseller.

Has anyone been able to find Minish Cap penny guide? I can trade my Paper Mario penny guide for your Minish Cap guide if you are interested. I also have a few other penny guides for trade if you want a list. I've searched at FIVE different Best Buys near my house and none of them have Minish Cap guide. :(

Well, yesterday, I made a trip up to Germantown, MD and the new (I think) Best Buy up there had almost all of the new penny guides, AND several of the last set of penny guides. They had (and still have) RE4, Tekken 5, DMC3, MP2, and a few others. I did, however, pick up the last Minish Cap, sorry mookiemeister. This is the first time I've gotten a penny guide for a game I was actively playing at the time. I'll have to look through it tonight to see if I missed anything so far. That and the Metroid Prime 2 I got there were pretty beat up, but for $0.01 I ain't gonna complain.

There is another MP2 still there if anyone wants it (I'm not headed back up there this trip, but for DC area CAG's it might be worth the drive). And to top it all off, they had a copy of NCAA Football 2005 for GC for $4.99 (marked $29.99 so it was there for the taking only for those who read CAG :D). Since EA didn't come out with NCAA 2006 for GC (I had it on preorder at GR too!) I will just play this one! I got the last one they had out, but it might be worth asking if they have more in stock. They also had a COMPLETE selection of PS2 Greatest Hits titles to use on the 2 for $22 Reward Zone deal. Burnout 3, both FF's, etc... I wanted to get some but have a hard time paying sales tax - I'll take my chances when I get back to Portland. Dumb, I know - should have just bought them anyway just in case. The Portland stores will probably be as barren as the rest of the DC stores I checked. But I really only wanted Burnout 3 and couldn't come up with a second I wanted anyway.

Now that it's rated AO (with some stores pulling them off the shelf), is there any chance the GTA: SA guides will be pennied or cleared out for cheap?

I noticed the game has been taken off the BB site but the guides are still there.

I figure it's a long shot... but as a CAG, here's hoping.

Seems like a valid idea. Might be worth scoring one on the off chance they penny it out in the next month.

So what's the chance of me calling Gamestop and them holding the guides for me until tommorrow morning?

EDIT: Too late, Gamestop is telling me that "sorry, we don't carry those anymore, effective today, actually".

Two Gamestop's have told me the same thing... one even told me it got pennied out so they had to send them back. Scratch that... all four Gamestop's that supposedly had Ace Combat 5 have told me it's either out of stock or was shipped back to the publisher.

If somebody can get extras of Ace Combat 5, holla at me.

not sure if this one was mentioned yet, but the PS2 guide for Street Fighter Anniversary Collection has been pennied out at GameStop. Includes the Street Fighter III Third Strike soundtrack CD! :3

but where the heck do you find penny guides at? ive looked at my local stores and dont see anything marked down at all.....am i missing something here? thanks

I haven't been able to get any penny guides at GS but I'll be taking a look tomorrow. I doubt I'll luck out so if anyone can get me a SF:A. Fullmetal Alchemist and/or Shadow of Rome PM me.

never seen any penny guide at the gamestop around here. so pm if anyone got any of those guides other than the Call of Duty Finest Hour.
Just wondering anyone know if the Final Fantasy VIII was ever pennied out at gamestop as there was one marked 14.99 at my local gamestop
no since there is a reprint.
Anyone order any penny guides from GS.com that were on backorder before? They have the Shadow of Rome guide on backorder, so I was going to order it and leave it to luck. Their backorder policy is here http://www.gamestop.com/gs/help/backorders2.asp but I'd just like to know if someone's done it with a penny guide before and how their experience went.
dont know if it is just me but i coundnt check out.

Gamestop has been pulling all there stuff way too quickly lately. The stuff used to just sit there most of the time, I got 2 zelda collectors edition guides, in the same store, about 5 months after they were originally penied out. One time a manager even told me he'd clear out the penny guides for me, since he saw me buying a few of them. Ended up with about 30, most not recent price drops.

Though on a positive note, yesterday, for only the second time ever eb actually gave me some penny guides (got a zelda four swords before). They were house of the dead 2 x2, sonic advance 2, and zone of the enders the 2nd runner.

I got up to credit card payment but then i stopped and decided to see if anyone else has tried. How far did you get up to?

Last time I checked a GameStop near my place, they still have 3 copies of Paper Mario guide. The guides are all in pretty good shape other than the spines are bent/cracked in a few places. I already have a copy for myself so I didn't pick up any Paper Mario penny guides there in case someone else needs it.

My Best Buy had:

Metal Gear Acid
Jak 3
Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green
Xenosaga II
Madden 05
The Urbz
and two more I can't remember.

But were all out of the RE4.

I'm sending my wife back this morning as they were limiting to one each.
If I get any extras of anything, I'll post in a trade thread.

Which Best Buy? The one by me cleans them out ASAP.

I don't know about penny guides, but Gamestop's backorder policy is COMPLETE BULL$#^T. I tried ordering skygunner, told them which stores had copies (several stores within CA had copies), and they just emailed me back telling me to cancel my order and go buy it at the stores! That they don't check local stores. I emailed them back stating that they were contradicting their own policy and no response back.

I am looking to get a copy of Metroid Prime 2 guide. Someone mentioned that it was pennied at Best Buy. None of my local BB have it I can trade or pay.

Not even worth the time it takes to check with GS... I can't believe 4 stores all told me the same thing, that they were already pulled and they couldn't sell them.

Kind of seems like a huge waste... even if companies marked them down to 4.99 I guarantee alot of people would head out and buy them.

Luckily I bought the Street Fighter Anniversary guide a long time ago, because that is probably one of the best guides I've ever seen, espically for a fighting game.
