Old School Video Game Music Thread

ControlCommerce, you've got a great taste in music :) Batman? Legacy of the Wizard? All AWESOME.

This thread needs moar NES music though:

Blaster Master - Stage 1
by: Naoki Kodaka

StarTropics - Cave/Dungeon Theme
by: Y. Hirai

...and now for some stuff from my favorite old-school composer, Hirokazu "Hip" Tanaka.

Wrecking Crew

Metroid

Interesting tidbit on the music of Metroid (taken from wikipedia):
This increase in sound technology, coupled with the composing talents of Tanaka and his coworkers such as Koji Kondo helped raise the popularity of game music in Japan. The increased attention spurred good-spirited rivalries between many game composers, a development that bothered Tanaka, since it forced composers to write in a way that he felt was contrary to the atmosphere of the games themselves.

It was this dislike that inspired him to compose the subdued themes of Metroid. In his words, he tried "to create the sound without any distinctions between music and sound effects." He composed the music so as to deny the player a simple melody to hum along with; only after completing the game is any "catchy" music played.

Truly one of the first composers to venture outside the normal "video game music".

Junko Tamiya

She was responsible for some of the great early Capcom soundtracks. Just take a listen to these gems:

Bionic Commando - Area 1

Bionic Commando - Area 2

Little Nemo the Dream Master - Part 3: House of Toys

Little Nemo the Dream Master - Part 1: Mushroom Forest

Darkwing Duck - City Level

Gun Smoke

.... just to name a few.

Great work on NESing up the thread. The more, the better. All those games I grew up playing. Also great idea on featuring a specific composer and naming a few tunes they've done.

Here's my contribution to this thread :)
Wizards and Warriors 2-Ironsword ala Mario Paint

This one is pretty cool too. More Ironsword

And the last level from Ironsword

Has anyone been able to finish this game w/o game genie?! It's such a hard game. That and I suck! :bomb:

Legend of the Mystical Ninja 3-SNES

Looong game. I have yet to finish it.
Anyone actually finish this game?

Oh man, way to go on the Wizards and Warriors. That guy playing the intro on the guitar is one of my favorite additions to this thread so far. Here's the original to show respect to the composer:

Game: Wizards and Warriors II: Ironsword
Composer: David Wise
Song: Title/Intro

And now ladies and gentlemen, more Zuntata:

Game: Night Striker
Composer/Band: Zuntata
Song: Urban Trail

You all are posting some really good music. Zuntata is always amazing. And Suikoden and Batman for nes are some of my all time favorites. I am gonna keep it in retro limbo with some R4 "Naked Glow".

the system this version is from is not old school but the game that its from is old school. its the FFIV boss music as played in the PSP version of FF 20th anniversary edition when you fight the FFIV bosses in the cave of souls. I loved this music
V's and VI's music are both great too, but not AS great
VI's here

If this is a repost I apologize profusely, I just think the music is really well redone.
