These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60.

No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

While someone already answered, this will depend entirely on the person taking in your trade-in. Some employees are particular, and others don't give a fuck.

Now it says at Gamestop.com that there is an extra 30% trade in amount for trading in any console! That means that if I waited 2 more days I was going to recive about $40 more!?... ugh ): I'm so dumb. If I take my PS3 fat trade in receipt from two days ago would it help? anyone could tell me?

This is spectacularly wasteful...That returned PS3 will have to be trucked back to a returns center, examined, repackage and then reshipped somewhere else to be sold as refurbished. And you are proposing taking the time and gasoline to make two round trips to a walmart plus going through a 2nd transfer process all for the sake of $10 of bonus GS credit....Talk about false economy.

Here's the easiest solution....lo, PM me and I'll send you the free 30 day trail code for PS+ that came with my recent PS3...I'm never again going to give Sony my Credit card info (which is required to activate the trail) so it is of no use to me.

i believe that the 30% trade bump (with preorder) doesn't work anymore for controllers or accessories anymore. someone correct me if i'm wrong but we tried the other day and they changed the wording in the marketing book and it only applies to games traded in.

I've got an old 360 that was repaired because of an RROD. I was thinking about taking advantage of the $90 TIV but I was wondering does not having a hard drive affect the TIV?

Still works. I used it today with the DS3 and got $38.50 towards Dishonored for it. Guy said the book only said games, but when I said the website said any item, he tried scanning it and it worked. The language might be different, but the bonus will still apply if scanned.

Well, it's all a moot point anyway because none of the GS stores around me have gotten the super-slim yet. At my local store they said they might get them Tuesday. Yeah, that works out great with the $10 extra trade-in promo (on top of the $125) that ends Sunday Gamestop :roll:. (The $10 extra apparently goes until 10/7, but the $125 ends Sunday and the promo definitely makes it look like you would get $125 + $10).

I'm going to call some other stores and see if they got them in today. He said if they received them today they might not have checked them in and his store stock check wouldn't show them yet.

My plan was to buy the super-slim, go home and do the transfer, and then see if they'd be willing to return/repurchase the super-slim with my trade-in and if not just take the $125 for the old system. But I can't even do that now. The guy said there was no way he could do the trade-in promo in advance either as it is all "auto entered" with the trade-in/purchase. But obviously I can't buy the super-slim first and trade in the one later if they don't get the super-slim till after the guaranteed $125 value ends.

I did notice the 30% extra trade-in value promo on flyers in the store - that was running before the current promo and extends afterwards. It isn't anything new. I would assume it is either the 30% extra or the "guaranteed" value in the promo. You wouldn't have gotten them to stack, anyway, Ashlee. And the base value off which the 30% applies is surely much lower than $125.

For example, the last price for my model (160GB non-PS2 compatible fat system) says it trades for $70 (but the quote is from way back in March). If that value is close to current that would only get me $91 instead of $125 and in that case it isn't worth upgrading. I should have asked for a current value when I was in there this evening.

I called them before you post this and they said that yes, they would give me maximum $125, then I told them the website says it is offering 30% more, and she was like let me check, then she said no, it is still $125. Thanks for the answer though ;)

Yep, see you got the better promo ($125). The 30% would be off a much lower value and thus you got the better deal automatically.

I missed that offer - I had asked yesterday if anyone had one to spare and got no response so I kind of gave up on that avenue - but yeah, I'll send a PM now. I am hesitant about the credit card usage, too, though as this is just going on my son's account. I assume you can cancel it before the charge though.

got a question regarding trading in a game the guaranteed $30

if i trade in borderlands 2 and get $30, if i choose to put that credit toward to RE6, will it be $30+30%? or will they not combine the 2 promos?

It doesn't stack. The system will automatically give you the highest one.

What would be a good game to use to flip the credit? I have Saints Row the Third ready to trade in but I need another one.
 
If you don't mind losing a couple of dollars, UFC Undisputed 3 and FIFA Street both used. To me though, those few extra dollars may end up being the tax I wouldn't have to pay by buying the games at Gamestop with trade-in credit.
 
Max Payne 3 is (maybe was now) $19.99 for that Best Buy retweet sale thing. I ordered that yesterday, and was planning to play/beat it to trade it in anyways.

Thanks guys. Looks like the Max Payne 3 deal is dead, but I would rather use Amazon credit anyways. FIFA Street would only be a couple dollar loss so I might go for that.

Yes. They pay you a lot less for them though as they buy it for "parts"

GS will take RROD 360s, nothing else AFAIK. If you voided the warranty by opening it, you will not be able to trade it in.

Base is $20 + promos (if any are available).

Do you need cords/controller? I have one sitting in my trunk that I was going to throw away (I already traded the cords separately). I'm sure there would be a deduction, but I'm not looking for much.

Yes, would need wifi controller, av/power cables.
 
I apologize in advance if this question has been asked a bunch of times (and answered) but...

I have enough powerup points to grab 2 of the b2g1 free coupons for 10k. I got one, but I don't know if I should get another or if it is restricted to just once per account.

If I grab another am I good? ...or would it be a waste.

Might be a stupid question, I know, but I know that the coupons sometimes are one time use so I don't want to get stuck and then have to go through calling customer service and all that.
 
Not sure if anyone brought this up, but I notice they are giving $30 for PS2. Then it says 30% extra for system trade-ins. So, would I get the extra 30% on top of the $30?

you can get more than $30 with promotions just by trading in the controller.

at that rate, you're basically paying them to take your xbox 360 :lol:
 
I unloaded one of my fat PS2s today with no trouble, but I went to another GS to dump another and was told that store doesn't take in PS2 stuff anymore. Anyone know if there are other stores like this?

FWIW, this is also the store that tried telling me that I couldn't use my PUR $10 off any purchase with items that were on sale (which was outright BS). The same two clownshoes were working there tonight as the last time I got fed a line of BS.
 
Both are for the 360 from Friday and are base value.

Goldeneye $10
Spiderman Eot $10

I paid about $15 for SM and $13 for GE so I'm happy with the amount I got. To bad I couldn't say I was happy with those games. Both were a pretty big disappointment,especially goldeneye.

If it's a smaller store, it's a YMMV. I got transferred to a mall store and we dont sell PS2/PSP games, but I still accept trade ins for them.

They probably said that, so they dont have to mail out all their PS2/PSP games to other stores who do sell em.
