These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2) *Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

How do returns work with GC offers at GameStop? If I buy the 360 and get a $75 GC, will I need to return both the system and gift card, or will the console just return for $225? I'd prefer the latter.

I'm a PUR member and I got that email this morning. I wish this was available 2 days ago when I had a ton of credit and Gift Cards. I really wanted to trade in my old Elite for a new 250GB slim model but they were only gonna give me $25ish for my Elite. I ended up buying a 3DS and Mario3DLand on a whim.
 
So I know it's been answered that if you an old xbox to trade, you need just the power brick, av cables, the xbox itself, and a controller. But what all do you need if you have a slim? Do you have to trade in the hard drive as well? If not, then how do they distinguish from a 4 gig and 250 gig?

So, I did trade in my old xbox 360 for a new 250gb holiday bundle and both promotions stacked. Just keep in mind that $100 promo was automatic but $75 GC was not. When transaction was complete, I asked the CSR about free $75 GC and he told me that he totally forgot about that promo. He had me return the new console and re-buy it to apply the free GC thing. The receipt says the console is $224.99 and the GC is $75 and total purchase $299.99.

I knew about the coupon but didn't want to waste 3500 rewards points because I didn't think it would stack. And if you don't want to get the new xbox, you can just trade in your old one using the coupon to get $95 credit.

If it's of any help, last week I purchased the 4GB Kinect system for $299 with $100 giftcard and was able to deduct an additional $50 with the PUR coupon. So, it stacked for me.

KK, guess I'll wait till the sale is over to spend my $5 credit. Wasn't planning on getting the B2G1 sale anyway, just wanted Vanquish...

And that new store sucks, half the games there only have the GS covers not actual retail covers.

Can someone confirm if 50% is ringing up automatic today also? I checked the price for Disneyland Kinect yesterday and it as ringing up $22.50 with the bonus automatically, soon as they scanned it. Today they scanned it and it only showed $15. Need to figure out if I need to purchase a pre-owned to get it to work today. Please advise!

Trying to figure out if the TIV is $15 without the bonus or if the TIV dropped to $10 and with the 50% bonus it is now $15....

Pretty sure it is not automatic anymore. There were signs around the store stating you can get an extra 50% credit with the purchase of a pre owned game and it also says that on the website.

Went and traded my elite in and put it towards a 250gb slim console, the guy also mentioned to me that I also get a $75 GC. Pretty sure he did not know about it since he looked at the screen and then said that I get a GC with my purchase.

After looking at my receipt and adding things up, does not look like I got taxed for this. After the promo, trading in a head set, and credit built up; paid a little over $60 for a new slim 250gb.

:360: core system with wireless controller - $45 ( I think, since he said with the promo for trading in a system[not the promo of trading in towards a 250gb slim] , I would get $75 for it)
 
Anyone have a GameStop.com discount/promo code I can use towards a refurb iPad 2? Somehow I've accumulated over $540 in GS credit. I blame BB DotD and BBV 3/$15 5/$25.

That's actually what's left over after B2G1 flips. Turned all my BB credit to Visas and Amazon credit with amounts way more than what's left at GS. Got $ (credit) at TRU and Target too.

I'm tired bro. Time to get back to reality.
 
Yeah, no offense klimb, but it kinda seems like a waste of some cheap credit. Buying an overpriced tablet that is refurbished, and by Gamestop, no less. Three strikes and you're out, bud. Does GS knock off $5 on used iPad's like they do games?

Try $129 less. Looking at the 16GB 3G. Still comes with a 1 year warranty, I believe. If not, then Squaretrade is cheap.

Was thinking of trading this in too - looks like it also dropped $2 from the quote in the OP. Oh well... And yeah, the $15 must be before the bonus. So now I guess I have to buy some cheapo used thing as well ;).

has anyone traded in wii play: motion recently? I assume the listed price is for game only. Says $14, but that was in July.

I got 2 from the bestbuy sale, got them replaced for flingsmash, but I only wanted the remotes.

Explain! I actually want the game, not the remote. You got it replaced when they canceled or backordered a Flingsmash or something? I had an order cancelled - would like to have swapped that out instead!

wondering if anyone knows if the "get $100 for Xbox console tradein" would work towards preorder of the Star Wars console or does it have to be towards and new console purchased at the same time?
 
Called a gamestop this morning, they said the TiV of a Wii is $15. And another one just said $30. Considering the attitude of the woman on the phone of the first one, I'm inclined to go with the second.

Wondered the same thing. Get the $100 towards pre-order star wars console and than cancel and move the credit towards something else or a slim when money is less tight.

Thank. I didn't get the email but I am PUR Pro so I may just give it a go on Sunday when I'm back home. The way I see it, I can sell my old one with 1 controller on ebay for maybe $100 and after fees and ship, I'll get $75. So this way I get $100 GS credit but I have $300 so I consider that a wash along with the $75 GC, so net out of pocket to me is $125 for a 250gb slim bundle.

BTW, I'm trading my xbox in with the Dragon Controller as opposed to a plain white or black. If anybody is in the CT area near Hartford and just wants to trade me a plain MS OEM working controller for it, let me know before I trade in and its yours. Both are correct: The base trade in value of the Wii is $15, but there is a $15 bonus on the Wii right now, making it $30 after bonus.
 
Being lazy, will search also, but what was it about not paying sales tax on purchases made with GS store credit? Was this state specific?

Actually, the base is 30, and it's 45 after bonus.

Also DS Lite has a TIV of $20 right now before the extra $15 promo.
