These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2) *Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Also like I mentioned before about my iPhone, I had a mod that you can't remove off of it, and restoring that device isn't the easiest thing to do. It was trivial to give it to GameStop for about the same amount that I could get from someone, without caring what happens after it leaves my hands.

I just bought a new slim yesterday. Is there any way I can take in my fat ps3 and the receipt from yesterday and benefit from this deal? I paid cash I'm assuming they wouldn't give me that back but maybe store credit or something.

I have a DS lite I wanted to upgrade for a DSI XL. Would this be a good time to trade up? if I have to pay more than 80-100 out of pocket I'll pass.

I tihnk the PSP1000 is $20 base (+$15 with promo). You need a wall charger and system.

Price couldve changed from last week when I was at work.

Hey for the 360 trade in promotion, I have the FF13 Console, you guys think it's a good deal to trade in the 360 for the new slim one. I hardly play my 360 because I don't have it hooked up to the internet, can't run wires around the floor. hoping, being connected to the internet will make me want to play it more lol? Not sure if I'm making the right logical move or is this impulse behavior.

I traded my FF13 console for the Gears 3 Bundle lol, it was really worth it for me in the end. Plus i love not having to worry about as many console issues as a regular Phat 360 could get.

Have a PSP 3000 w/ 16GB non sony memory stick (used but good condition), a 3rd Gen Touch 64GB (scratched up on back, front is perfect), and a 16GB 3G Ipad 1 (used but good condition)... Craiglist right?

I think you misunderstood of how selling/buying works. Say gamestop gives you 35 for your PSP like the other poster said, a 16 GIG card no matter the brand for a PSP is still expensive. Your PSP if you sold it on Craigslist, and list the condition and sell it for $50-60, you will get buyers easily. People buying from others are usually cheaper, going to a store is different, I think you understand that much. the ipod 3rd gen, most understand about the back because of it's finish, I had a second gen, and sold it for $125 2 years ago, when the 3rd gen was coming out.

Just my opinion, but that sounds like the textbook definition of an impulse buy. If you think the WiFi capabilities are the only thing holding you back, and your phat console has seen little use, why not just get one of the WiFi adapters for $30-50 (or cheaper sometimes on CL).

EDIT: Yeah, I just looked, and if I'm correct, they'll only give you $65 in store credit (with bonus) for a perfectly fine working Xbox and controller, and then you're forced to spend that on a console at full MSRP? I think your answer should be crystal-clear.
 
I've read in the thread about the PUR coupons not stacking with some sales/promos. Just wanted to verify: I have GS holding a MW3 Hardened for me at $79.99. I was gonna redeem points for a $10 off any item PUR coupon to stack with that price. You guys think that'll fly? Or will the price revert back to the normal $99 if I try to use a coupon too?

Note if you're trading in one of the 40% games, just trade it in itself because the computer will wanna try and give you the "best" deal if you bundle up the trade. In which most cases, for me especially you end up losing money and not maximizing your profit, because you traded in more games in the same transaction...

Same for the X360 version; I just traded it in today.

Used it toward a Hardened Edition. I already listed the field journal, founder code, and elite membership on eBay. Which means I should be able to make a small-medium profit and keep a cool Steelbook case.
 
Just a heads up guys, sorry if this is old new. My local gamestop has converted all their news PS2 Slims to used. so they're 40 bucks now. My friend just bought one and they didn't break the seals on the box or anything. Goodluck.

Hey guys, the values in the original posts on the first page, are those base values? Cause if SR3 is really based at around 20, the 40% extra plus the 10% extra from my Pro card would be nice.
 
Sick, random question, but is Skate 3 really that much better than Skate 1??

Skate 1 is 7.99 used, and I was going to get that in the B2G1 free deal, but Skate 3 is 20 new and I could still do the B2G1 with the left over money I get with the trade-in deal.

I've Only played skate it and skate 3. I got a 100% completion on Skate it (its wii only) and I'm on my way to 1000 skate 3. Its such a good game. I wouldn't hesitate at $60 let alone $20. Its one of those games you can play with no goal and still have so much fun. With the logo editer you can get current decals and shirts from the great community. I'd just buy 3, but be aware that it has a $10 online pass in new copies.

Tony Hawk was so great because of the local multi player (which skate 3 doesn't even have, its a DLC expansions) Skate 3 is all about single player, with great Online multi player It really depends what you're looking for. I was so tired of arcade style skateboarding games, and skate created this super realistic skateboading game that's pretty much as close to perfect as you could get.
Also just to clarify, I'm not a completionist at all. These are the Only games I've pursued completing to this extent.
 
Traded in SR3, got 30 total in store credit, w/ PUR. So basically base value was 20. Then used 25 of the store credit for the B2G1 free. Got Dragon Quest: Sentinels of Starry Skies, Skate, and Dead Rising. Damn good haul I think. Gamestop is usually a rip off, but ever since I came here, I'm finding out that you just have to be smart and pick your spots to get a good deal.
 
If I wanted to return two of the paid games from the B2G1 deal, do I need to return the free game as well? Most of these cases are too damaged or has too much sticker residue and I'm crazy enough to be bothered by it. I only have one spare PS3 replacement case left too.

Did you want to try to keep the free game? The system would probably allow it, the manager on the other hand probably would not. If you dont want your games perhaps you could just go in and do a return/rebuy with better condition cases, etc. Didnt you get to choose your case when you bought the games in the first place?

There was only one copy of the games available (MGS HD and ICO/SotC collections) while the free game (Infamous 2) has the best case with some minor sticker residue because there were many I can choose from. It's weird that the system would allow it, but I certainly don't want to take advantage of a store if it'll get someone in trouble. I'd return and re-buy but the former two games I mentioned are unavailable in my local gamestops. They're pretty hard to find games (used) for whatever reason.

It's damaged as well, as if someone picked at the old stickers with their nails and made deep marks on the plastic. I'm probably just going to go in to see if I can return them and mention the free game upfront.

This may be frowned upon, but when I get a shit case and they don't want to help me out, I walk to the used area, pick a few cheapie games with decent cases(usually Buzz games for some reason) and buy them. I swap cases in the car and put the cheapie stickers on the shit cases and return them.

After doing that once or twice they will likely start helping you get a decent case the first time to save themselves the hassle. It may be a douche move, but they have given me a case that was missing almost the entire back half. They've tried to hand me PS3 games in PS2 and Blu Ray(movie) cases. fuck em.
 
I just got $85 for my iPod, despite it being engraved. I expected a refurb fee at the very least, but they didn't seem to care. Best Buy told me they'd give me $5 for it. Soooo...I'll took the Gamestop deal.
 
Looks like the itrade page of GameStop's site is staying current....or the TIVs haven't changed much. Took my 4th Gen 64GB iPod Touch and traded it in today. $180 base + 30% extra = $234. Dudes working there were impressed. :D
