Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

I have a girl like that who works at one of the gamestops around me ( have about 6 or 7 within 10-15 miles so I rarely go to her ) she tried to once give me a poor for my at the very least good iphone 5 just a few weeks ago. went to apple got a new one got the like new so it ended up working out for me be nonetheless people like this definitely need to be jobless it makes me wonder why people have no jobs and bitches like her do probably because she sucked some dick... the guys filming obviously went along with her because she was a woman too...sad

Yes, they give you 50% trade in coupon and B2G1 pre-owned games coupon after you renew your Pro subscription.

I think he forgot it and it was near the end of the event so he just asked if he could pick up the game without ID. He probably had it all paid.
People were also jeering at him for trying to get something for free so I suspect he was trying to do something shady before the guy started filming.

On the video:   The manager might have thought the guy was an ass and he may have been.  That said I do not believe she is entitled to speak in a condescending manner to him.  

I have this new girl at my local store (about 23 or so) who has taken to following me around the store.  I get the sense that she thinks she's preventing me from shoplifting.  It is infuriating but I am trying not to be the guy who makes an obnoxious remark.  The point being that I think some employees hold themselves in higher regard than the customers because they feel their employment at gamestop automatically ranks them higher in some geek hierarchy.  

On video #2:   Is anyone else reminded of that kid who was crying when Duke bowed out of the NCAA tournament really early?

 
Dang that video made it to Facebook and Gamestop apologized to the customer and are investigating the issue. 

I think originally he held up the line for not having photo ID. But even the employee was in the wrong saying "oh we have his business card you guys want to email him and thank him for holding up the line" as he walked out the door. That would have pissed me off. Both were in the wrong though.

Well that and the tone she used would have pissed the hell out of me too, good riddance I guess.

I understand that she probably was not having her best day being there in the middle of the night with a nerdtillion of ppl trying to get their hands on a copy of GTA, but if she wanted to vent she should at least waited until the guy was not within earshot.

If she hadn't made that snide remark as he was leaving, she would have been 100% in the right.

It's sad for a person to lose her job over something like this, and I hope she finds something else, but she has no one to blame but herself.

The guy's a douche but the lady is a moron. He's walking out the door, why in god's name wouldn't you just let him leave.
Or at the very least wait until he's in the parking lot and the door is closed if.you're really wanna get the crowd on your side. By saying what she did before he left she was just trying to get the last word in by using the most passive aggressive method. Not saying the guy's a saint either but good on him for calling her out for both acting so unprofessionally as well as insinuating that she was going to give out his personal information.

Giving out a customer's personal information is a line you just don't cross, no matter how much the customer makes you lose your cool. My guess is that, above all else, is whatgot her fired.

Also, while i was at gamestop, I picked up GTA V (PS3) with my birthday coupon for $39 used.  Not bad for a 2 day old game

Anybody having worked retail long enough should relate how aggravating customers can be. It's too bad that video caught the tail end of the confrontation. I wonder if that was intentional or just by chance.

I'm not defending the lady but a point that may be missed from the video is that the whole ID check isn't the worst thing in the world and sometimes a practice an employee should require from you.

As a personal story, I had my nearly paid off TLOU Pandemic edition stolen from me from another asshole while I was out on vacation. I was only short by $15 which the asshole gladly paid with using cash. From what I could deduce, my store gave out my preorder to somebody that used my name to pick it up. I was irate to say the least when I came back from my cruise a few days after release to find out what had happened. My manager investigated it and determined that the transaction was rung up using my name without any ID even though I wasn't present. The thief name dropped me, mentioned I was out on vacation, and told the associate she was there to pick up my Pandemic edition.

The question was how they figured out it was my specific reservation to steal. The manager pointed out either an employee in the store asked a friend to do it (which is unlikely since I get along with everybody at my main store with surveys and preorders all the time) or that a customer was around and overheard my previous conversations with the employees whenever I would come in to pay off my preorder. Everytime I was trading in games towards my preorder, I reminded them about my vacation plans and specifically asked them to hold it for me for a few days. I also have a bad habit of throwing away my GS receipts in the garbage outside the store. The manager pointed out how personal information prints out on the receipt and advised me to be more careful about discarding receipts that had my preorder info on it. Luckily, the warehouse was still showing it as in stock when the employee that was helping me submitted a backorder fulfillment request email. In the end, I got my replacement CE albeit a week later. The store manager discounted the CE to my original remaining balance and took the loss. I strongly debated about giving a negative feedback but given the circumstance, it wasn't fair to knock the manager for doing what he could so I actually didn't do the survey.

So just a little moral of the story OT to keep in mind that checking ID for a preorder that ANYBODY can take, isn't such a horrible idea. Hell, I'd be hard pressed to think how anybody WOULDN'T carry any ID on them. Any car, wallet, purchase should accompany some form of ID. Just having gone through my personal story, I'd probably be more suspicious than anything if a customer couldn't provide ID unless I knew he/she was a regular. I hope my thief burns in hell and don't ever waste your money on Princess Cruises unless you're 50+ years old. The end.

As I mention a couple of posts above, I'm all for ID check upon picking up a preorder, and even more so if we are talking about an M rated game.

Even if the manager had outright denied him the game w/o an ID I think anyone reasonable would have had to side with her.

But she lost it when she made that remark.

Can someone help me please, I have the latest b-day coupon but the thing is mixed in my tablets gallery with the old ones. There isn't no time stamp so can someone tell me last 4 digits on the bar code so I can figure out which one it is.

So I can confirm it is need for speed mw: 2005 and not the 2012 version even though their paper still says 2012.The associate rang it up for 2005 and it did work correctly.

In reference to the video-my store IDs me for any preorder I pick up. I am on a first name basis with most of the employees and the assistant manager is in my DDO Guild. It's their policy. It's probably a company policy some people are lenient with. Also, they ask for ID a lot of times when I use my credit card. Again, it doesn't matter to me.

Other than that, I think she went a bit overboard about the situation, however, the high five to the girl was priceless...especially when it ended up on Youtube...LIKE EVERY OTHER STUPID THING ANYONE ON THE fuckING PLANET DOES!

(bday + PUR + B2G1)= 90 + tax into 141.75
I'm confused about the bday + B2G1. I thought it was pointless to use the bday when all the items are the same price since B2G1 would just make the cheapest one free anyways? Have my calculations been wrong this whole time?

Using your example of buying 3 Maddens, assuming use of bday, and ignoring taxes, I thought it was:

- Madden 1 = 54.99 -> less 10% PUR = 49.49

- Madden 2 = 54.99 -> less 10% PUR = 49.49

- Madden 3 = 54.99 -> less 10% PUR = 49.49 -> less 20% bday = 39.59 -> apply B2G1 = becomes free since cheapest

Total = 49.49 + 49.49 = 98.98 (which is the same total if the bday was not used in the first place)

Is this wrong??

 
The discount coupon can be added after the free one is marked and it won't remark the free item.
Oh. I guess I totally misunderstood then. I thought a few weeks ago we had a whole discussion about how the best use of the bday + B2G1 was to get one game that was 20% more than the other two (e.g., 54.99, 39.99, 39.99)... I guess I assumed (incorrrectly, apparently) that the point of that was to not let the bday go to waste.

I mean she was wrong to stoop to his level, but gamestop shouldn't apologize for what happened.

How many people you know swore to stop shopping at Gamestop only to be in there next week, trying to get the latest deal or the next flip

Not sure, I never really used them that way, but I quoted the best case scenario, I'm not sure they would let you stack coupons anyway...

Coupon stacking still is YMMV because employees are told to only take one for the reason that the computer will take the better one, and the system was meant to nullify the others, but it does work in this case when you have the proper order.

I also changed my name to having hyphens now. It was my first choice since but it's more difficult to type in mobile.
