Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?

It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

FYI no one have a brain fart like me and try to do a trade two and 50% bonus in the same transaction. Came out of that snafu negative $10 on the trades but I wasn't thinking since I was more paying attention to signing up for a second PUR card.
Same thing happened to me, and one other person. lol Not really our fault, considering that the system should give it out the right, considering there is no promo stacking.

 
That itself is not the ban, as mine was on the 21st and I know exactly after which trade I got banned. Trade worked fine for it, but aftwards, nope, needed a new card. (Which I DID get, and which I DID trade in the two GTA V that I had bought.)

Ap in other words being banned is tied to your PUR card not your state ID? If that's the case that makes me feel alot better now.

My day was good. I turned about $72 into $120 to GS and Amazon. I bought a wwe 13 and 1 Pokemon at 2 different locations and traded the pokemons to a 3rd location and locked in $68 for 2 copies of WWE 13 to Amazon so I don't have to buy a kindle card.

Too late, I did that too tonight but noticed it and told him to do a separate transaction. This was at my normal store so there wasn't any fuss or problems.

Now I would have kept mines but literally came 3 days too late. The usual guy told me when I was buying mines to flip, "Sorry, I threw away the cases three days ago." Now if he would have had those cases, it would have went on the shelf.

If you actually are a familiar customer there you could always go in and try to get them to adjust the transaction. Depends how far you wanna go for $13, time gas etc. But yeah if you get someone who is cool they might be able to void the transaction, and re-ring it.

How many do you actually mean by a few? If it was only 2-3 copies, I'm guessing more than half the people in this thread can expect a ban. The fact that you were banned in the time it took to go from one store to the next, it sounds more like you reached some arbitrary limit on account activity or trade volume. Just curious, how many successful trades did you do between the time the "Member Updated" showed up and your ban?

Thanks but I'll just consider this a lesson learned for the future. They might see I traded the 2 Pokemons the next day but even if its just the last 5 games purchased like some have said, pretty sure my wii/ds b1g1 coupon stays nuked. Nah, now I'm just considering if I should do the GTA5 trade out, trade in thing once anyway or if I should heed your warning on laying low right now

 



This is proof that GameStop is going hard on bans now and people should take it easy. Hope none of you are on this list. This was take from a Brooklyn, NY store by the way.
Ugh if I was you I'd watch what you take pictures of and post. You could be getting yourself into more trouble then you know it.

Actually... you made me check, coulda sword I did more but only 3. Thought it was more, but I guess I never did get a cheap one off amazon or such. No it definately was most likely a automatic, or since I had bought them the day before, that someone was watching my account and banned me themselves.

 
I also took a look at the monitor while the employee was grabbing the used games I bought.  It did just display the last 5 games I bought but it was a day behind.  I had bought a couple copies of GTAV that morning to trade in, and about an hour later, the GTAV still didn't show up in my last 5 games purchased.  

The employee did give me a hassle about buying a cheap $2 game to get the trade boost and refused to put the extra credit on my card claiming: "It looks really suspicious when people do this just for the bonus."  I bought a couple more games just to get him off my case.

 
All well if I get banned, I'm sure my local store will gladly sell me another PUR account. :whee:
Know what? I ain't even mad... Now I have a PUR card that isn't falling apart XD, and I have the little piece that can go on a keychain again, I have long since lost where I put my old one. To put that in perspective about my card falling apart my PUR pro was "worth" $579.08 this year alone. That means $5,790.80 worth of purchases used games/trades... That card got scanned ALOT.

is that from "value scored this pro year" part on the receipt? If so mine is $984.77, there is no way I combined for almost $10,000. I only been a PRO member this year since April. You sure it means that much? I'm pretty stupid when it comes to math.

Maybe it also takes into account "You saved X buying preowned!" savings as well, that might seem likely XD. But still, card was from 2010, and so in that time I have used it alot. But there will always be people here who could put me/mine to shame.

I think they count everything. All the trade bonuses, B2G1, B1G1, and so on. I've got like $1700 or so, and I know I haven't spend anywhere near enough if it's only counting my 10%. I think the big difference was getting 50% trade bonus on 3 iPads and a few smart phones.

 
Also almost all my trades today were listed as "Returns" on PUR.
When I got hit with the "Member Updated" listing on 10/20, I traded in a Pokemon Black 2 and a Pokemon Heartgold for an ATK. What's weird was that under Dashboard on my PUR account, it showed Black 2 as returned but Heartgold as traded in. I don't know how I got different results from one transaction. As far as my activity before and after getting "Member Updated," I already participated in the B2G$50 about 5 or 6 times before 10/20 and completed a trade only yesterday without any hassle. I haven't used the SotW coupon at all and while I did trade in 5 or 6 Pokemon titles, I haven't flipped anything.

As fas as getting banned goes, is the only way to find out is getting rejected at the register? What happens to your account on the PUR site? I'm sitting on quite a few PUR points and wondered if I should cash out now.

An employee at the store told me that it takes into account coupons and many other discounts besides your total purchase prices.

It's a shame so many of you have such douchebag employees (judging by the stories here) - the ones at all of my locations are great.

mine stands at $3815.44 saved, not sure if I've purchased $38,000 of stuff at gamestop!!

I think it's actually just a random glitch in most cases, because I never trade in multiples and some of my trade-ins read "returned" while others register as a trade-in.

Can sign in fine, still showing my full balance, no email or notification anywhere I can find, everything seems to be normal and I have my full PUR point balance. Pretty much no way to know besides getting shot down at the register... Kind of sad really, I really liked that store, it had a manager who had just gotten transferred there and he was really cool (let me do the trade 2 towards preorders, because they will be new games when they come out, so he would adjust it)...
But I really don't wanna draw attention about how I would be sorta dodging the trade in ban by having made a second pro account.

Yep, the only way you'll find out if you're banned is if you try to trade something in. You'll only be banned for making trades (unless they put you on a separate list?); you can still make purchases so your PUR points are still good for redeeming any rewards on their site.

 
I was able to pick up a Metroid Prime Trilogy w/steelbook and Fire Emblem with the B1G1 today. Pretty ecstatic to finally get Fire Emblem and MPT Steelbook version.

Is the limit one SOTW coupon for the duration? If so why do they let us buy multiples? Just paranoid I guess and time for my wife to get a separate PUR card just to be safe. FWIW I don't show any Member Updated. I've done the trade 2's but I've been careful not to trade in multiples of the same game.

 
You should buy me a PS4. I wish I knew my lifetime saved, I only know the one for the card I'm using now.
well, it's actually 2 pur cards combined, had to invest in 3rd card recently to get rid of lot of attention. I'm the only person trades that much in my city and I've around 12-14 gamestops, so that helps. BTW, I recently got banned by bestbuy from trading :)

No real limit, like you said you can buy multiples, I guess TECHNICALLY your supposed to limit yourself to one, but honestly, not a single employee would care, they would just let you do multiple transactions.

I've used the SOTW coupon three times. Even used it at one Gamestop twice with the same employee but on different days. The coupon scanned just fine. Not sure if that's what flagged my account or part of it.

My only fear with getting banned is the three 25 dollar off coupons im sitting on saving them for PS4 launch.
It isn't "banned" in the sense of the word like, GET OUTA HERE! NEVER COME BACK! It more is along the lines "If they try to trade in respectfully decline". But say you want to buy a game? Sure, no reason they won't take your money, they just won't give you theirs.

 
Thanks for the answers, Hemi and Bii.  While I don't think I've done anything warranting a ban, it's good to know what to expect and that I can still use my PUR points.  On one hand, I'm a bit paranoid about that "Member Updated" thing, but on the other hand, I feel like they wouldn't plan on banning me if they keep asking if I wanted to renew PUR since it's expiring in December.

Oh didn't even know there was a limit. I did 3 separate transactions in a row with the SoTW coupon the guy didn't even care, with one using the birthday coupon. I apologized because I didn't know it would be a struggle, Definitely got a glowing survey from me.

 
Has anyone tried this? Give them one PUR pro card to do the trade then swap cards to put the credit on the other.
