WHEN REPORTING TRADE-IN VALUES PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. Second post has the values for games/hardware for Microsoft devices. Third post has the values for games/hardware for Nintendo consoles and the fourth post has the values for Nintendo handhelds. Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

PART 1: So good news and bad news at Gamestop. Good news: ALL GS locations in the US are getting wi-fi this week! Not sure if they are open access points or closed. Also don't know if all the locations are getting the same connection like ATT Wi-Fi or if it varies by locale (ATT/Verizon/Comcast/Time Warner/Charter, etc.)

Bad news: There are two reasons for this. One, systems can now be tested to see if they are banned from XBox Live I believe, since you could do an online connection test and that touches XBox Live. But the 2nd reason that's more imminent; if you buy a PS4/XB1 and don't have internet access, Gamestop will hookup your system to download the Day 1 patch. Depending on speed of the GS connection and size of the files, this could greatly slow down the lines at launch and take up lots of employees time at the store post launch taking up 1 of each stores 2-3 registers.

Found out about this at the CoD launch so just wanted to pass the info along.

PART 2: So bad news on the Gamestop Wi-Fi situation:

1. The Wi-Fi is locked down with the password setup by each individual store manager but even if you got ahold of it ...

2. Everything someone would want to go to in a browser from gaming sites, to YouTube, to even news sites like cnn, foxnews, etc. are all blocked. Trying to access them gives you a blocked message from the firewall that's setup. Twitter/Facebook iOS apps worked but NFL Mobile and others w/video did not as they timed out. Don't use the YT app (just use the mobile site) so didn't try that. And even that doesn't matter because ...

3. It's as slow as molasses compared to 4G LTE or anything like Boingo, ATT, or any of the other public access points. So if you get behind a bunch of people w/o net access I feel sorry for you and I dread these launches now given the area I live in and our customer base's general lack of net access ...

PART 3: So GS has handed down a memo I'm sure is also going to apply for XB1 in that they count Friday as a pickup day so any PS4 not picked up before close of business on Saturday, Nov. 16 or any XB1 not picked up before Saturday, Nov. 23 is available first come, first serve to customers on Sunday the 17th or Sunday the 24th.

Anyone who has not picked up their system by mid-Saturday will be getting a call from one of the store's keyholders to find out what's up.

Your money won't disappear from the preorder system but that PS4/XB1 will be sold to someone else. You will be told you can call the store when you have acquired the money to pay it off and the next system that comes in after that call will be held for you for another 48 hours.

PART 4: So the info on the GS inTRAnet site I saw today says XB1 preorders can also get the 90% bonus trade on systems tomorrow if they want, although I'm sure there will be an event the following Sunday as well.

There is a SKU employees have to enter/scan to boost the trade. There was a sheet provided for the stores to print out to show what the full value of every system (including Ouya) would get base, w/30%, and with 90%.

The final part is YMMV but my store manager is letting any qualifying preorder customer who has traded their system in the last 30 days and still has their receipt to do a return/retrade to get the extra credit. YMMV on that of course.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Oh yeah. I've got a problem. My main account was banned from trading in, so I created a new account under a fake name. I preordered a game to get the 30% and now they're telling me I need to show them my ID to cancel it. I put the whole amount of the AC adapter, $31.20 on it (non-Pro account) and now I don't know what to do.
Call GS corporate and complain, they can't deny you from your credit. GS is tracking preorders/Pro cards again as the primary metrics so that store is just trying to stop preorder cancels.
 
So I'm buying an used iPad on the Gamestop website and my gift card amount ($65) isn't lowering the the amount of money I have to pay by card. In the past my gift cards have always lowered the money I've had to pay.

 
N/m I realized they were still open, so I called and asked.   Was going to trade MUA2, and Tales of Xillia (gonna get it for cheap in the sale), and pre-order Mario Kart 8, but she said you can't do it on pre-orders, I suppose I could buy a new game with the trades, and then return it.  Is that return fraud?

You can buy a new game using Trade 2 and return the game for credit. People here do it all the time.

 
Dumb question, but didn't see it in the FAQ.  I'm guessing hardware doesn't apply in the 30% towards a pre-order, right?  Can't trade, say, a Vita and get ~$65 + 30%?  I realize that the 10% won't be there from the Powerup Card, but I'm thinking about dumping this Vita.

Edit: Actually, from reading online it sounds like it might.  Super confusing...

Return fraud has a pretty specific meaning around here -- falsely claiming that you purchased a game or other item at a particular retailer (generally a Walmart or Target, since they accept returns without a receipt) in order to "return" it and get store credit. If you buy game X at GameStop and later buy a new, cheaper copy at Best Buy, giving that copy to GS isn't return fraud. Buying $48 games at BBY and returning them to Walmart for $60 ... That's return fraud.
 
I don't see GS going belly up anytime soon. Especially with any prior heads up. But that would be one hell of a liquidation sale though.
You never know. Gamestop lost apprx a Billion in market cap today. Blamed it on CAG iPad flips and lack luster 4th qtr sale. (jk on the iPad flips but some made out like bandits or thousands in amzn credits)

Lol on the ipad flips. But I would've thought they'd make that back with the sales of ATK.

 
At least pepsiman was semi-funny IMO, and creative with his usernames.

I may get in on the slim adapters since I got $20 in free credit from Amazon for their Preview program, and $25 from Radio Shack.

 
Anyone know why you can't buy playstation 20 or 10 dollar amounts for download? It's not like they ran out our anything. lol

 
So I know people don't get taxed if they used trade-in credit on a purchase...but if I make a return on something I bought with trade credit, and buy something on that same transactions, will I get taxed?  Like, will they just take it as return credit or will it be turned into non-taxable trade-in credit?

You'll get the return in the form of payment that you used to buy it.
 
I also get taxed on TIC purchases.  Very sad.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the 3x PUR Points to go through? I gave the coupon code to the manager the other night and he entered it, but when I look on the PUR site the amount it shows for points is only the normal amount for this transaction, and when I click on the transaction I don't see anything about a coupon code entered (though not sure if it normally DOES show up there or not)

 
I tried to get all of my credit back from a canceled preorder but they said that since I benefited from the 30% bonus I had to give the credit back or  put it on another preorder. That's bullshit right?

If they do it again, just buy like a 50 cent game and burn them on the survey if you please. People said they get calls from the GS district manager to apologize and the employee gets disciplined.

They've always had the right to do it as soon as you cancel the pre-order you are no longer meeting the terms of the promotion. Most stores haven't actually enforced it but I've run into a couple that have always enforced that, one in Evansville springs to mind and that was 2-3 years ago. There is one line in every promotion that basically says they can do whatever they want anyway that everyone seems to forget: "GameStop, Inc. reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the offer for any reason without notice." Yes, from a legal standpoint there are items there that would be hard to enforce but who is going to take them to court over a $2 difference. That's where they really win.

And on the subject of banning, I completed a trade with a preorder component today which I fully paid off owing about 12$ after those trades and no message popped up. So it may be that the message only pops up if you are owed monies. I also listened in on a conversation between my buddy manager and another manager who had 1st mentioned my level 2 ban on Sunday who was checking up on me. The timing was weird as she called about 5 mins after I finished the trade.

Does your buddy know if the 360 AC Adapters are considered the same accessory as X1 Adapters?

 
I would be careful with trading in 5 of the AC adapters. From what i gathered when i talked to customer service on the phone last weekend, as soon as you trade 5 adapters your account gets flagged by the system, so i wouldn't go no more then 4 adapters in a 30 day period.  I think they have implemented some new changes with the new year on the trade system.

 
So Tomb Raider is probably going to take a dive soon in value? With all those copies that GS and Amazon were pumping out for $10...

Side note, I miss when games came with nice fleshed out manuals. Red Dead's was pretty extensive and had some nice art. It was fun as a kid to get a new game and first thing was sit on the toilet and read thru it lol. Just opened TR and it only lists the basic controller layout. I was sad.

I would say that they may be only allowed to sell a certain number? I don't know.

It could also be a way to get you in the store, so they could possibly make more money by selling you more stuff.

So just to update the manager was talking bullshit. I was able to cancel the preorder and get all of the credit back. The only thing was that since I paid with credit I could only credit back but that doesn't matter to me. It buys Amazon cards the same as cash.

 
Does anyone know if the 25% off 3 or more pre owned game coupon stacks with the Wii Buy 2 get 1 free? i think it might.

And if it does I will total Paypal someone for that coupon...pm me your fair asking price....

Wait forever while the guy behind the counter tries to sell someone on a Pro membership while he's buying a X1 and Ghosts. Finally go to trade, the adapter's fine but the guy has no idea what he's talking about for the Trade 2 offer. I brought up America's Test Kitchen to use as my new game for the trade in. He says "You want to pay $9.99 for this?". I'm sure my face has the "da fuq?!" look and I respond "Wha.....?". He's like if you trade these in you'll pay $9.99 for this. So I have to explain that this is my NEW game I'm purchasing and ask shouldn't the rest just go to credit. He tell's me it has to be one of the maybe 20 games they had promotion "$9.99, with trade of..." stickers. So I ask the very obvious "So if I buy that and return it will I get $60 credit back?". Says "No you'll get the $9.99 you paid for it". Was like, "What about my other two games, won't I be reimbursed for those?", "No.". Too annoyed to deal with it anymore I left.

I hereby demote you as a CAG based on your actions--you should have just said "yeah/sure/whatever" to the initial question and feigned surprise when the Trade 2 promo kicked in so that the employee would have had to give you the excess credit either way.

I repeat: You don't have to explain a single darn thing to a GS employee regarding the Trade 2 (or, heck, any) promo!

My god the trouble I had with these people. Went to GS with KZ: Merc, DKC 3D and a slim 360 a/c adapter in hand for trade in. Wait forever while the guy behind the counter tries to sell someone on a Pro membership while he's buying a X1 and Ghosts. Finally go to trade, the adapter's fine but the guy has no idea what he's talking about for the Trade 2 offer. I brought up America's Test Kitchen to use as my new game for the trade in. He says "You want to pay $9.99 for this?". I'm sure my face has the "da fuq?!" look and I respond "Wha.....?". He's like if you trade these in you'll pay $9.99 for this. So I have to explain that this is my NEW game I'm purchasing and ask shouldn't the rest just go to credit. He tell's me it has to be one of the maybe 20 games they had promotion "$9.99, with trade of..." stickers. So I ask the very obvious "So if I buy that and return it will I get $60 credit back?". Says "No you'll get the $9.99 you paid for it". Was like, "What about my other two games, won't I be reimbursed for those?", "No.". Too annoyed to deal with it anymore I left.

Fast forward an hour I was still in the area went back, spoke to a different person who said I would of course be reimbursed, blah blah, picked a game, will return it tomorrow. Freaking eh.
Which is why you do not even MENTION the promos, just bring up the two games, have the new game ready. The system does it on it's own... You really should of just watched his face as he was proven wrong. Seriously nothing a read of the small print on the trade 2 promo sheet wouldn't of fixed.

In other news I showed a gs employee that was trading in some games the tricks of the trade. She said herself she isn't a smart shopper, and so was trading in like random games yet all on the trade 2 shockingly. DBZ Budokai 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (360) and a bunch of newer releases, I walked over to the shelf, grabbed some ATK, and a $1.99 U Draw Marvel Superheroes game, told her I guarantee the trade in credit will jump up if they scanned them. (She was off and was trading in her 360 library now that she has a XB1). She works at the store so the other employees knew her and were talking about how they do it all the time XD. (I probably converted one to the way of the trade 2 myself a while ago). She was like "It really is giving me more?" while the other employees were just smiling and nodding.

Also I have NO idea if it is related, but one of the managers apparently was on suspension for some loss prevention thing (so the employees were saying how she might not want to do any more than that since she works there and "Because of what has been going on").
