First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. Second post has the values for games/hardware for Microsoft devices. Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

How often are these trades? If people trade in 3 adapters within a week or two I could see how they would flag that. Hell even three within a month would be a flag. Not that many people have extra adapters on hand like that.

You guys probably play a lot more games than me.  I mostly just play Sports games online.  Those are the games I enjoy the most.  Don't even really feel like playing anything else any,ore.  Shooters are cool but get old fast.

So i think I'll have to trade 360 and get PS4.

 
It's most likely my doing, I've done 3 in about a 2 week span. I usually return the games the day after as well. Should probably space these out more lol but the flips are too good! And the 30% promo ends on the 23rd

 
I did not think the new set would be included. I dont have the lone ranger one so I am def in for that at 50% off. Also keep in mind the email I got is worded differently from that webpage. It does not say "select" play sets. It specifically says "all". That's why I'm hopeful the new set is as well. I will show the email to the manager if it doesn't come up 50% as well. Will do some trades for yhe 30% bump well.

All you have to do is look at PS3 and Xbox 360. PS3 had the better exclusives by FAR. What does Microsoft have? Halo? Thats the only exclusive they have thats worth anything. Gears of War? Its no longer developed by Epic and from what I read, ex-EA employees are working on the next gen version of the franchise. Needless to say, that franchise is done. Sony will alwyas have the best exclusives because they have the best second party companies. And Naughty Dog > all of Microsoft's second parties.

I could care less about Killzone either way so it doesnt matter if its a classic or crap to me. Knack is basically a God of War type game but for kids. As for Xbox One, what exclusives are there? Titanfall? Please. Just another generic FPS thats set in a "war zone". Only difference is that its people inside mechs. Killer Instinct? Average fighting game that wasnt even developed by Rare. Next....Dead Rising 3? A good game thats more based on comedy aspects than actual horror. Its Capcom. They havent made a good zombie game since RE4. Ryse is the only Xbox One exclusive I have any interest in and thats only because I like the setting and its based in Roman times.

Either way, in the end, all anyone has to do is look at exclusives for PS3 and 360 that were published by Sony and Microsoft. Once you look that over, you already know that except for a new IP here and there, both lineups are the same as the previous gen. Only difference is that the PS3 exclusives were better than 360's.

I'm not a fanboy. I easily prefer my 360 over my PS3 for various reasons even though PS3 does have the better exclusives. PS4 will be like PS3, starts out slow in regards to exclusives but once they get going, Microsoft wont be able to stop them. Both consoles are meant for the future games, not for now. The difference is that with the exception of a new IP here and there, Sony's exclusives will always be better than Microsoft's.

 
360's head start and better price point (by not having blu-ray) is what gave them such a lead in the beginning.  A solid title like Gears of War almost had no one looking forward to PS3.  PS3 was built around Final Fantasy and that ended up getting delayed big time.  A lot of their exclusives weren't ready.  This generation is much different.  XB1 did not get the head start and many 360 players are jumping ship to get PS4.  Many people just had enough with MS last gen.  Towards the end Ps3 has shown to really be the better console with better exclusives. XBOX doesn't have the head start this time and their greed is getting too big for people to handle with them shoving Kinect down people's throats.  Get real.

 
For that Infinity promo, if I take in a ton of games in to trade with the intent to get the Titanfall bundle but get one Infinity character would I get the bump on everything?

Yes, but just go and get titanfall... Trade ins for titanfall is boosted up by 30%. I'm sure it'll go up an extra 10% if you have PUR. Gonna go to my local gamestop tomorrow.

You should. The Infinity purchase would bump the promotion and anything left ever the purchase is for you to do as you please. Keep it on your trade card or put it towards the Titanfall bundle.

No, it means the newest and best technology available. If you want to say XB1 is more next-gen because of some Kinect nonsense you're kidding yourself/ One system forgot it was a game console. Sony has always just made great consoles that also can do a lot of other things.

 
Actually Next gen just means "The upcoming generation of video game console at a given time."

So, Ps4 and Xbox One are no longer next gen!

Exactly. The X1 feels more like it took a leap forward in features. The ps4 feels like a ps3 with updated hardware. That OS is pretty simple despite it being snappy. It could easily worked on ps3. The x1 OS could not because of Kinect 2

That is just hilarious because the consoles have nowhere NEAR the best technology available... NOR the newest... You can't pretend to be unbiased when just spouting off your mouth about how one system is great yet the other isn't without any shred of actual fact, evidence, or even preference.

No I am sorry the PS4 has pretty much NOTHING to even justify it at this point, it has games with essentially identical graphics as the XB1, while the XB1 has Forza 5 (meh), Ryse, Dead Rising 3, and Titanfall, all as exclusives, out right now.

Trying to claim one of the systems is "better" than the other is pretty stupid when you actually look at the specs of the system, as someone currently building a PC with parts that have been out for a WHILE now, not to mention will DESTROY anything capable on a console, please tell me more how the PS4 is so great and ground breaking and next gen...

The PS4 is a hardware upgrade and that is it... The XB1 actually added some things which is nice, on top of their hardware upgrade.

I think it's because Microsoft is trying to market itself differently. It's costing too much for exclusives so they are putting themselves out there as in all in one unit. Which is actually pretty smart. Argument about exclusive games is dumb because other then a few games on each console nothing is really must have except the games that are available on both systems. XB1 shot itself in the foot with it's original policies though which alienated a lot of their fanbase (360 owners into jumping to PS3s/PS4s). 

If XB1 had released as a console only and have the kinect as an option then I don't think they would be that far behind on PS4 in sales since they could easily match the $400 pricing and simply let it be a competition on features instead. The major niche Sony has as oppose to Microsoft is that their subscription is more valuable especially if you own their previous console/portable console. As much as the subscription in order to game online sucks, it hasn't really hit due to the fact that their PS+ subscription comes with a lot of value. Even if I didn't need online gaming I probably would keep the subscription for the free games/discount by itself (which I did originally).

Or you can try and justify something you've never tried. You wanted opinions on the ps4 and when it wasn't favorable you started getting butthurt because others said they preferred the x1. It's okay though because I thought the PS4 was gonna be this amazing machine that would slaughter the Xbox One. And they came out swinging at E3, but fact is their exclusives are POS' right now. I'm not a fanboy. I'm a consumer. And I am not brand loyal.

To be fair, he asked if he should trade in his 360 for a PS4. Not if he should get a PS4 or an Xbox One. I don't even know why this has become a fan boy war yet again, lol.

By a marginal difference that wouldn't really be noticeable unless you do a side by side comparison.

It's not like a comparison with a PC. Not trying to argue but just throwing that in.

Yeah games tend to look a little better. ACIV is a good example. Ghosts I couldn't tell a difference in but it isn't too great anyway.

Titanfall is proof that amazing graphics don't equal good gameplay. Heck look at Killzone vs Titanfall. KZ is beautiful but bland. TF is just decent but awesome.
 
Not sure if I can ask this here without stirring up some kind of shitstorm (or maybe that what this thread is for?) but does GameStop still run their buy 2 get 1 free promotion on their used games? I remember a few years back this would happen a few times a year but I haven't been to a GS in close to four years now. Thanks

They do but they haven't done so in awhile and not nearly as often.

I applaud your eyes if you can notice almost identical graphics on a game where you are running around and doing whatever on. The "fact" is that your eyes physically can't tell the difference no matter what you like to tell yourself. It is called the placebo effect, where if you are convinced on something so blindly, that you actually experience it...

Who are you trying to convince sony is better... are you trying to convince others when they no that any difference is minimal? Or are you trying to convince yourself because you decided to go with them this generation. That is the real question.

I want your next posts to actually give me FACTS about "Why A is better than B"... Not made up assumption's, or preferences, but actual, real, facts. Give sources to these facts as well...

I wonder why people want games in 1080p so badly then or why developers even trying to make games in 1080p since it doesn't seem to matter. Not being sarcastic either.

I honestly don't care enough to get into some fanboy debate to write a novel about why "i think this is better than this because I said so!" because I really don't care what people choose to play. Get whatever you enjoy most that has the games you enjoy on it. Its about having fun and enjoying your self. its not about trying to feel superior than others.

Honestly, this isn't even the time or the place for this kinda bullshit and I apologize for adding anything to this.

Take it to the proper forums/threads and just leave this thread to be what its actually intended for.

If 1080p mattered so much then how come when AC4 first dropped on the PS4 every reviewer talked about how good it looked in 1080p compared to the Xbox One, and then a few days later Ubisoft stated they needed to patch the 1080p in. If it's so noticeable why did nobody notice it wasn't 1080p and why did everyone act like it was?

Killzone Shadowfall is another good example of that. Developer and Sony advertised Multiplayer as 1080p, people have talked about how "fantastic" the multiplayer looks and how important that 1080p was and then it gets revealed it's never been 1080p at all.

Funny since there are over 20 games that on PC can go up to 4K resolution... 1080p means pretty much nothing... EVERY GAME YOU PLAY FOR THE MOST PART IS 1080p! http://www.killzone.com/en_GB/blog/news/2014-03-06_regarding-killzone-shadow-fall-and-1080p.html

This is taken directly from the developers, about killzone "In Multiplayer mode, however, we use a technique called “temporal reprojection,” which combines pixels and motion vectors from multiple lower-resolution frames to reconstruct a full 1080p image. If native means that every part of the pipeline is 1080p then this technique is not native"

 
Yea when I buy a new console I actually want the games to look better.  Otherwise, what am I paying for?  Paying for those attachments and features?  Yikes.  Microsoft could have just upgraded the 360 with this amazing Kinect system.  Never needed to make a new system.  Oh but I guess they can include a blu-ray player and call it an XBOX One, even though blu-ray players cost like $50 now anyway.

Good way to sell these Kinects and force them down peoples throats too, even though the majority of people dont want them.

Really it was always said how 360 could be upgraded in endless ways.  It was never done instead they brought out a new console so you can buy it to use these features now.  That's really expensive if you ask me.

360's games are running at 720p while PS4's are at 1080p.  Which one is next gen?
